I was just going to call this entry “A Scare” but then I feared you would all panic and assumed I had pregnancy issues. Which I don’t, unless you count growing-to-match-the-side-of-my-house as an “issue”.
Nope, it was Lil’Girl who scared us last night. (Don’t worry, she’s fine, now.) I was sitting in the bedroom with LilZ watching Beauty and the Geek (which is an awesome show you should totally be watching because it really is so sweet and sincere) when we heard the dogs start fighting a little more enthusiasticly than usual. I looked out the door of the bedroom and saw Bambi (male cat) and Sweetie was in the bedroom with us, so I assumed it was Cisco and LilGirl going at it.
Then, I saw MrZ walk down the hall, gasp, cover his eyes and say “OH MY GOD!” and I screamed “What?” as I got up to see what was wrong. He said “I think Bambi punctured Lil’Girl’s eyeball!”
I got to LilGirl and you could NOT even SEE her eyeball, it was covered in blood. I put her on the counter to get a better look and I couldn’t because THERE WAS SO MUCH DAMN BLOOD. It was dripping on the counter (remember my dinner invite for the weekend? It’s still open.) and I just immediately told LilZ to look in the phone book to find out where the Emergency Vet was. Luckily, MrZ knew, so LilZ held LilGirl while we all put on clothes (we weren’t naked, we were just in our jammies) to head to the doggie hospital.
But, in the ten minutes it took us to get ready, LilGirl’s eye already started looking WORLD’S better. We loaded up in the car and as we’re driving, we both start thinking about how expensive this is going to be (yes, I know, we’re insensitive, but MY JOB…remember? It’s not a dependable source of income right now). And we wanted to make sure we REALLY needed to do it RIGHT THEN. So we stopped and looked at her eye again. STILL looking TONS better. So, we went back inside, broke out the flashlight and took a good look at it (after we cleaned all the blood off). We couldnt see ANY cuts on the eyeball and the bleeding had stopped. She was focusing and her pupils were dialating together. We decided it could wait until this morning.
I just woke her up, and it still looks good. My vet opens at 7:30, so I’ll call then and see when I can bring her in. They’ll probably put her on some antibiotic eye drops and hopefully she’ll be fine. I’ll let you know.
Also? It wasn’t Bambi, because I saw Bambi outside the door when I heard the fight. We actually think Bambi was checking on LilGirl. (Have I ever mentioned how cool our animals are?) We think LilGirl attacked Cisco when she was guarding the food. She’s just started doing that since we moved into this house, and we’re not sure why. We’re going to keep our eye on that situation and nip it in the bud if she keeps doing it.
So - that was evidently our attempt to mimic Amalah in all she does. First? I go and get knocked up WEEKS after she does. And now? My dog decides to “Pull a Ceiba” by injuring an eye. Next thing you know, MrZ will be critiquing the restaraunts here in Huntsville. Although, I do believe Jason has more to choose from in his endeavor. Somehow, I don’t think articles about Ruby Tuesday’s and Hooters would have as much of a pull.
P.S. I sent this link to my family yesterday. You should check it out - it’s some cool astronomical events for the weekend that I hope to enjoy with my Dad in town. However, I’m TOTALLY disappointed in myself for NOT coming up with the same response that my brother did. His return email to me is in the extended entry. Give yourself a test by reading the article FIRST, THEN seeing if you can come up with the same response.
Here’s your hint: My brother (and I, usually) have the mental maturity of nine-year-old’s.

I can NOT believe I did NOT think of that joke first. I’m so
disappointed in myself.

Gah!!! Glad to hear Lil’Girl seems to be alright, but jeez, Zoot, can’t you be a little more original??
You know, the first thing I thought was, “Is Lil’Girl trying to be like Ceiba?” I’m glad she’s OK, and I totally understand about the not rushing to the emergency vet part.
Heh. Y’all are nine. Hope LilGIrl’s eye is okay.
oh man, that post brought back some bad memories. Wolf attacked my cousin’s puppy, Fritz, when he was very young, also for food reasons, and tore Fritz’s eye…he had to get stitches, we had to do an emergency run to the ER at 11PM and I was SO freaked out by the whole thing I left her house the next morning and haven’t been back since. OMG was I PISSED at Wolf! Grrrr….
Glad Lil’ Girl is alright. It makes sense that she would guard the food, because you are in a new “cave” so her instincts would be to protect the food supply.
I’ve heard about restaurants in Huntsville. I actually went there once back in 1984 to deliver a package to the Army Ballistic Missile Defense people. Everyone told me that there are good German restaurants in Huntsville. A legacy from the days of Werner Von Braun and all. And it looks like I’m going to have to get my telescope out this weekend.
That is pretty crazy that you and Amalah have had similar occurences. It is so scary when things like that happen with your pets. Glad she’s getting better.
How scary. I’m glad Lil’ Girl is ok.
And if you can’t act like you are nine with your brother, who can you act like a nine year old with? My brother and I are the same.
Poor girl!! We had a kitty that got hit by one car and clipped by another. He made it…but has a lazy eye now. haha…HE’s even cuter.
That’s it. Our dogs are no longer allowed to email each other. They’re just startin’ shit now.
I don’t know…I think if those reviews of Hooters had pictures in them, they’d have a pretty big pull!
It’s funny that I read this now. I just had a situation in the kitchen a few minutes ago. Smokey (mom’s dog) went after Gizmo because of food issues. Doggies can get so nasty with each other.
I’m glad to hear lil’ girl is doing betta.
Ahh, sorry you had a scare but glad to hear your baby girl is doing ok. Baden Pup decided to develop allergies and now requires daily eye drops. It’s $22 for a teeny tiny bottle that lasts maybe a week and a half. This could get quite expensive! He’s worth it though!
So has your sqishy and Amalah’s squishy started kicking at the same time? Hehe. Now that, would be freaky!
you let your brother touch uranus? GROSS!
