For those of you keeping track at home, today is finally the day of our 4D ultrasound thingy!
(Yes, they call it a “thingy”)
Our appointment is at 11:30am (CST). We are checking LilZ out of school so he can go with us. And then? We’re celebrating with lunch somewhere, maybe even somewhere FANCY. Like…Applebees! That’s fancy for us.
I’m hoping if they can say “its a girl” again today, I’ll feel more secure about buying pink things. MrZ interprets the last ultrasound much differently than I do. I heard “Well…my educated guess is a girl…but you never can be positive in situations like this.” Whereas MrZ heard, “I have to provide you with a tad bit of doubt for legal reasons so you don’t sue me when it turns out to be a boy, but I am positive that it’s a girl. TOTALLY POSITIVE.”
So, it will be nice to just have one more reassurance today that if we buy that pink butterfly infant bathrobe I saw at Target, I won’t have to return it for the blue-with-NO-butterfly version.
In reality? I’m still pretty scared of the idea of me mothering a daughter, so my hesitation is probably me holding on to a string of hope that I won’t have to find out for SURE if I’ll be as crappy of a mom to a daughter as I fear I’ll be.
Either way - today is the big day. Expect pictures to follow, but I am not sure if they’ll hand us over digital copies, or if we’ll have to scan hard copies. If we have to scan them, you’ll have to wait a little longer for MrZ to take care of that at work. Otherwise? We’ll post ASAP. I promise.

This is scary; I’m melting at just the mention of a little pink bathrobe. And I’m sure you’ll be a great mom no matter what sex NikkiZ is (although you may want to consider a name change).

Good luck today! Why do you think you will be a crappy mom to a girl. My opinion is that you would be a great mom to a girl, a boy or even a porcupine.

My grandmother used to dress my dad as a girl (he had the most beautiful blond curls) and he’s [mostly] normal!

You will be a wonderful mother to your daughter just like you are a wonderful mother to your son. I think there is a big difference between the two and it seems that there are more mistakes that can be made when raising girls. If little NikkiZ is anything like Maddie, just be prepared for her being Daddy’s girl. That hurts my feelings sometimes but at least you have your little man on your side to even things out! Can’t wait to see the wonderful pictures!!! Tell me Mr.Z to hurry it up already!

You will be a wonderful mother to your daughter but be prepared for her to be daddy’s little girl. Daughters are mean that way! Can’t wait to see the pictures!

Daughters can be such a blast, Zoot. Really. You won’t be crappy with a girl. You’ll love her and you’ll get to play dress-up and then you’ll love her even more until your heart is just bursting with it. I’ve got one of each, and I adore them both. You will too.

Although I don’t know you personally, you seem like you’ll be a wonderful mom…and I have a built-in “great mom” radar. I lost my own mom when I was ten and ever since I’ve always gravitated towards/sought out women who give off that motherly vibe. I guess that sounds a little whacked, but it’s definitely something that I recognize in myself. Both LilZ and NikkiZ are very lucky!
