Here are some of the suggestions from the last entry regarding what TV series I want to buy to distract me during early labor at home. Suggestions which I have already SEEN and am in love with and MY GOD, YOU ALL HAVE GREAT TASTE IN TELEVISION! Not only that? But I have realized that I watch WAY too much TV.
Not that it’s a bad thing…
- Arrested Development: Watch it - LOVE LOVE LOVE it - own the first season on DVD.
- 24: Watch it - LOVE it - seen every episode. (And love that Sean Astin is going to be in it this season.
- Law & Order: SVU: Watch it - Love it - Have a TiVo season pass and have seen almost every episode.
- Lost: Watch it - Love it. Seen every episode.
- CSI: Watch it - Love it (especially Warrick. Yummy). Seen almost every episode.
- The O.C.: Watch it - Love it (especially Peter Gallagher. Yummy.) Seen every episode.
- Family Guy: Watch it - Love it - TiVo Season Pass and seen almost every episode.
- Simpsons: Watch it - Love it - Seen almost every episode.
Some shows I have not seen, but have reconsidered thanks to you all reminding me that the topics/language/plots may not be the best for labor distraction.
- Sopranos
- Dead Like Me
- Six Feet Under
- Carnivale
So. The two I’m considering?
- Gilmore Girls: I have a HUGE crush on Lauren Graham and have always wanted to watch her show.
- Veronic Mars: I watched the FIRST episode and was bored, but it has gotten such good reviews since, I feel I should give it another try.

omg, i love the show Grey’s Anatomy - you should watch it!! (on sunday nights!)
and Gilmore Girls rocks my world. you should watch that too!
I love Gilmore Girls. Very literate, witth - and Lauren Graham talks so fast it will be a great distraction during labor!
I LOVE Veronica Mars! You should deffinately get it!
Freaks and Geeks! SOOOO good!
I absolutely love Veronica Mars. My parents made me watch it and I totally got hooked. I really felt it got better and better as it got towards the end of the season. And now I’m like counting down the days until the second season starts.
I think the DVD’s are supposed to be coming out Oct 11th, and I’ll so be at Best Buy that day getting them.
how about futurama by the creators of the simpsons??
I recently started watching Gilmore Girls with my teenage daughters, and I love it! The dialog is very quick and sharp…and a lot of fun! I think this would be a wonderful choice!
I vote Gilmore Girls. Love it. One of the few shows I watch.
You and I have the exact same TV taste. You should try Boston Legal too. That is, if you love James Spader & William Shatner as much as me. My other indulgences are Rockstar:INXS, America’s Next Top Model & The Apprentice…I am so excigted about Martha having her own apprentice show this Fall.
Oh, I’m just a lurker…a pregnant one! Due in Feb. I’m always thinking good thought for ya!
Try House on Fox. I love that show.
I very rarely watch TV but I’m addicted to Gilmore Girls and so should you
I can’t believe the Sean Astin on 24 next season tip!! I’ve got a countdown to January for sure!!
I agree with the first commenter. Grey’s Anatomy. I LOVE that show. It’s SO cute and funny and I love every character on there. And how could you pass up Mr. McDreamy?!?!
BTW, if you decide on Gilmore Girls and make it through to the daughter’s graduation scene? I’m in there in almost the whole scene. Look for me! Even though I look bored and pissed off, which I was….
The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire. The Wire.
Gilmore Girls!!! I’ve never commented by I read EVERY DAY , NUMEROUS TIMES A DAY but I couldn’t just sit back without saying… GILMORE GIRLS (especially since you’re having a girl and I totally know you are SUCH a cool and awesome mom, just like Lauren Graham’s character!!)
Ooohhhh Oooohhh… have you seen “the office” - u.s. version? I think that is my new favorite show - hilarious! And you can get season 1 on dvd.
I’m coming out of lurkdom to give a huge shout out to Veronica Mars. It has superb writing, a kickass heroine, amazing continuity, engaging characters, and lots of cute boys who are playing hs kids but are actually in their twenties so you don’t have to feel too pervy about lusting after them. It’s a nice mix of the OC (ostensibly a hs school show with adult themes) and Lost (intricately plotted and careful characterization).
I would HAVE to go with the Gilmore Girls. Such a good ‘family’ show. Its endearing and witty. I think you wouldlike for the occasion.
Gilmore Girls rocks and it has several seasons under it’s belt. I watched a lot of old series DVD’s after my baby. They were great
during middle of the night breastfeeding.
LOVE GG!!! You know that it’s my favorite show!
Oh, and also? The Muppet show is out. Just saying.
I am SO addicted to Rescue Me on FX. The first season is on DVD, but the second season only has 2 episodes left. OMG, LOVE IT!
You should watch Veronica Mars, but only if you can watch the first season FIRST. Because if you watch starting with the second, it will ruin the first.
I suggest watching Gilmore Girls in order, too (first three seasons already on DVD, girl!), but I watch EVERYTHING that way!!
Totally Gilmore Girls!!! I love it!!!
Love me some Gilmore Girls!! How can you NOT watch it after all this praise?! WOO!
Do yourself a big favor and watch Veronica Mars - the writing is so witty and smart and it’s so nice that the main character isn’t a whore but a brainiac. Good stuff!
Veronica Mars! I love that show. It’s well written and the characters are interesting and fun. Even John likes it.
I was just going to pimp The Wire, but I see BIYF did a wonderful job of it for me…..if you like the soup at Target, you’ll LOVE The Wire! I wouldn’t even save it for Labor Day - just go get it and watch it now.
