You know? It’s a small world and I’m constantly reminded of that. Last night, I was talking to one of the soccer moms from LilZ’s team. After a bit of small talk and background info (she and I didn’t know a lot about each other) it turns out that her brother used to live next door to me 9 years ago when I lived 80 miles away.
And then there was that one time I ran into a kid I did a presentation with in the 2nd grade (back home in Knoxville, TN) in the elevator my freshman year in college (in Huntsville, AL). He had moved to Chattanooga after 2nd grade but we both ended up going to the same university which was out of state for both of us.
I was at a wedding in Corinth, Mississippi one time and got talking to a guy 20 years older than me that ended up having attended the SAME catholic elementary school as I did and received his first communion from the same priest as I did.
MrZ found out at one point in time that he was working with someone who had previously lived in the same part of Knoxville, TN as I had.
My friend Stace came into town for a wedding shower a few years ago and got to talking to my neighbor. The two of them had NEVER lived in the same town, yet somehow, through weird coincidences, they realized they still had mutual friends from OTHER towns. Of course, Stace is the kind of girl that can ALWAYS find someone she knows through someone else. She even realized she knew people MrZ went to high school with, so with her? It’s not that impressive anymore. We’re used to it!
And finally? I’ve met several bloggers who have connections to my life. One whose daughters go to the same high school as I did, another whose husband works with an aunt of mine, and still another who works at MY TARGET.
Freaky and cool, all at the same time. I love shit like that.

I love small world stuff like that. It always makes me happy.
Also, you recently have had a lot of old posts show up in your feeds. It’s confusing so I figured I’d get myself over here and just read on your site.
My first day of college (far away from home) a guy came up to me and said that he recognized me from somewhere. I thought he was hitting on me until he realized that it was from the PRESCHOOL we both went to! Who remembers people from preschool?! Not me…
I know… it’s CRAZY! I was kinda hoping that you were leading up to junkie’s small world story…. it’s hard to top that one ; ) Heh.
About 20 years ago, my aunt got on a bus somewhere in South America. She comes, as do I, from a tiny village in the southwest of Germany (3000 people live there). She had not been living there for about 10 years at that point. The bus stops and a girl gets on. My aunt looks up and just started screaming in german… Turns out it was a girl she went to school with for 4 years, her parents were next door neigbours with my grand parents and they had not seen each other for 10 years. Small world, indeed!
Well sure, but there are a billion people in China. How many of THEM do you know? (See, you don’t know everybody, after all. I don’t know anybody who does, as a matter of fact….)
I went to UAH for one and a half semesters and found out I can eat 12 Krispy Kremes when they’re hot. (When they’re not, I can’t. And man do I feel sick afterwards.)
Then I lived in Huntsville again in 1998 for 6 months working at the airport.
So I feel connected to you!
in my last congregation at church there were 3 of us from the same (high school) graduating class. Not too crazy, except that we were all living about 700 miles from where we had gone to school. I am always freaking out about what a small world it is.
Thanks for sharing, I love crap like that!!
Get this– my 9 year old is in a girl scout troop and the 2 leaders went to my high school. All three of us were in that school in 1982 (but none were the same ‘year’ and we didn’t know each other). We live in the burbs now and that high school was in the city. Weird, huh?
The icing on the cake was going and looking each of them up in my yearbook. Muhahahaha They looked like dorks. Me? No - I was COOL and happenin’. hehe
my dental hygenist’s sister went to high school with me. I live in Sacramento now, they Live in Fresno–how odd is that.
Yeah, I’m just waiting to find out that you know some of my family down there…. I’ve got a sis, brother-in-law, and 4 nephews all in Huntsville.
Which Target is yours? I have a friend/sorta coworker that I know has a livejournal, but I don’t know of any bloggers at the South Huntsville store. Anyhow, I keep wondering if WE have met at some point and just don’t realize it!
