MrZ and I went to Blockbuster today, with NikkiZ! It was HER first outing as well as my second. It was quite exciting. We rented about six movies, came home and put Hitchhiker’s Guide in to watch.
I promptly fell asleep.
I’m just not quite feeling myself yet. I’m still very sore and crampy. My emotions are a little haywire, and I’m very exhausted. I just don’t feel RIGHT if you know what I mean. I look in the mirror and I don’t recognize the girl looking back. She’s not pregnant Zoot, and she’s not NOT pregnant Zoot. She’s some sort of bizarre transitional stage where she has belly blubber, swollen ankles, and dark circles under her eyes. She smiles a lot, probably because she’s so happy to be a mom to a healthy happy daughter. But sometimes? That smile looks more like that of an insane person who missed her last dose of meds.

Zoot,
You should really give yourself a break.
In the Netherlands you get an aide for the first 8 days that you have a new baby who helps you out so that the mother can take it easy and get used to being a mother(again). And you even had major surgery, only a week ago!
So take it easy and enjoy your beautiful daughter and very cute husband and son!
You are WAY too hard on yourself. And you need to take some time to HEAL. You should be laying around while MrZ is home so you’ll be feeling better when he’s back to work! Of course you’re tired and swollen and blubbery. Some doctor just cut a human being out of your belly. With a KNIFE! Cut yourself some slack, woman!
Truly - please don’t be so hard on yourself - your emotions are all over the place. That is so normal
You should be resting and trying to get energy for the weeks ahead . I know it feels good to get out of the house, etc - but please don’t rush things
Are you forgetting you have staples because you had a baby cut out of you!! haha Best wishes…..
Hey…I know this is assvice. So…hate me now, but please be careful of taking NikkiZ out into the public. RSV season is starting and this can be very very serious in babies who are under a year old. Mine got it 3 times in one year, and now has a hyper reactive airway that causes her to have to having breathing treatments every day during a cold. She is now 22 months old and will probably have this for years to come. I am a foster parent and have seen other babies have to deal with this. Just be super careful in large public areas, like Walmart, Target, Grocery stores, anywhere the public is. Sorry…I know….unsolicitied advice. But please be careful.
Okay, this is coming from a mother of two (both C-sections)…want to know my “assvice” as it was so nicely put? The secret to my success…
1. Have someone else clean the sucky parts of your house, i.e. mopping floor, cleaning bathroom, whatever you HATE to do.
2. The MINUTE NikkiZ is asleep in the evening, lay on the couch with a movie and, HERE’S the huge secret…DOVE Promises. Eat no less then 4 pieces followed by a medium glass of milk. Do this consecutively every other night for a week at LEAST.
3. Freak yourself and friends out by showing off your staples.
4. GO NOWHERE! Didn’t your doc tell you you can’t drive for at least two weeks after a c-section? Mine did! Especially when you still have the staples in! Your body is still trying to heal!
5. If you need fresh air, OPEN THE WINDOWS…if you need socialization aside from Mr.Z and Lil’Z and Nikki Z, invite a few (meaning 2 or less) friends over and have Mr. Z serve treats.
I have good reasons for telling you this…the more stress you put on your c-section scar, the more likely it will be to become infected, and TRUST ME, you don’t want that to happen. Also, while the “flab” (I have tons still btw) is still there, make sure, ESPECIALLY after the staples come out, to keep it really dry…use a blowdryer on cool…washing is good, drying is better, or again, an infection could set in.
Yup…experienced C-section mother leading the way LOL (J/K). Enjoy the baby and the rest of the fam!
That was really touching & insightful about the post-baby transition, zooty. I know exactly what you mean. I remember the first month after my last baby as a trippy, kaleidoscopic blur of euphoria and moodiness and fatigue. Just remember, you’ll feel like you again before too long.
I never had a c-section, so this comment will remain an assvice-free zone….although the strict Dove Promises regimen sounds good. I wonder if Sara Lee Cheesecake bites work for this, as well?
You put together a coherent post, and have had two outings — one with the baby. At this point after my daughter was born, I think the only time I was coherent was when I was showing off to the home-visit nurse. “See, I’m a good mom. You can totally trust me with this baby!”
You’re kicking my ass, so you deserve a reward. More TV, more treats! And the belly flab doesn’t count against you until the baby is at least a few months old. Heck, mine’s 18 months, and we’re still not talking about it.
My youngest is two and I still smile like that…
OMG you are human…I was starting to think you were invincible. No assvice from me, since I have no kids but I do like Randi’s advice expecially the part about the DOVE chocolate.
Sheeeit Patootie - I look like that I I haven’t had a baby in 19 years!
I TOLD you to quit running about. You want me to come to Alabama and give you a beatdown? For Pete’s sake, Zootster, take it easy!!!
Well said, I remember that transitional persona very well. Congrats on the new baby, she is absolutely beautiful. I hope you get back to your old self real soon.
Of course you are not ypurself. They just removed a baby from your abdomen. Plus all the TV withdrawl …
In time, MissZ. I wish you were better NOW. I’m so glad NikkiZ is happy and healthy. You all rock very much.
I am sure you are still beautiful. I hope you cheer up.
Sending you hugs!
Getting staples out is a piece of cake; I had a little bit of burning but that was it.
You’re a great mom — both to NikkiZ and LilZoot. You’ve also just run a marathon and had major surgery; so, of course I’ll take a while for you to find your groove again.
