Well, we did it. We survived our first televised Alabama game WITH a baby today. Of course, NikkiZ and I stayed hidden in various rooms of the house, listening to MrZ yell from the living room. But - we survived! I was worried that I would get stressed because MrZ gets so stressed during those games. But - staying far away was the way to go, because even though he was screaming at the TV, we were in another room, so it didn’t phase us at all. I did play the “We have a baby now” card when he used the F-word at the television. But, to his credit, Alabama’s offense had their crappiest game of the year, so ONE F-word is pretty damn good.
I watched Crash today during the game. Have you seen it? It was really good and really depressing all in one movie. It was about race relations in Los Angeles told in the form of just a 24 hour chunk of time in the lives of about six or so people. There were parts that were insanely beautiful and parts that ripped my heart out all at the same time. And then? There were some parts that were just UGLY. And heartbreaking. And too much for an emotionally charged new mom to be watching. But - I’m really curious as to what the average person thought of it. I know the critics loved it - but sometimes that doesn’t mean SHIT.
That was it for today. NikkiZ was quite fussy for several hours as she pooped and pooped and pooped more than I think any human has ever pooped in the history of poop. She is also totally messing with my feeding schedule because she falls asleep mid-feeding and I can NEVER wake her up to finish. So now? She’s eating from one boob every several hours as opposed to TWO boobs every TWO-THREE hours. This means I have been nursing her on demand all day and my boobs have no idea what the heck is going on. They don’t know how much milk to make for what time because there is not rhyme or reason to my feeding cycle.
My boobs are confused. I have confused boobs. “Confused Boobs.” That is totally going to be the name of my first album if I ever join a band.

To MrZ: Rooooooolll TIDE!!!!
I thought about you guys during the game… I was STILL SUPPOSED to be working on “sequent occupance”, but after you caused the crying fit…?? Just kidding. It was the TIDE, baby!!
Crash? I know nothing about it…. But I will check it out now : )
Oh! We saw Crash about a month ago. It was a great movie - hard to watch, but still really good. It has it’s funny moments and hear-wrenching moments. Overall, it showed how there is good and bad in each of us.
I want to see that movie. It’s one of those I have to see on a by myself kind of day. But we did see Chicken Little in Disney digital 3D. It was a cute little movie and the kids(4&6) loved it!
Delurking….
I work in a movie rental store and got to see Crash before it came out on video. My husband and I absolutely loved it (we called it our ‘most paused’ movie, because usually when one of gets up for something, we don’t pause a movie, but with this one we did, every time). Many of my customers absolutely hated it. A coworker and myself actually gave up trying to recommend it to anyone when they asked. I am glad to see that somebody else liked it. Have you seen ‘A Day Without A Mexican’ or ‘11:14′? Also good movies that most of my customers don’t like.
I saw Crash about a week ago, and thought it was amazing. It was so alternately horrifying and sad, funny and thought-provoking. I love ensemble pieces like that, and Don Cheadle was outstanding (did you see him in Hotel Rwanda? If not, wait until your hormones are more stabilized and you are better rested, otherwise you’ll be a big pile of goo. It is heartbreaking - but GREAT!)
**spoiler alert**
IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN CRASH, THERE’S A SPOILER AHEAD!
When we first meet that little girl in the movie, I had a feeling something bad was gonna happen and I turned to my husband and said, “If she gets killed, I’m going to freak.”
So when she got “shot”, I totally fell apart. I have two boys, ages 2 and 6, and two dogs, so anything involving the death or injury of children or pets completely unhinges me and I just can’t stand it.
I was so relieved by the outcome!!! And what a perfect twist! Kind of Pulp Fiction-ish.
***end spoiler***
I was a little disappointed by Sandra Bullock - all the reviews I read seemed to say she was amazing in this role. I thought she was good, but definitely not amazing. However, the woman she played amazed me (in a not-good way).
Also: congratulations on the birth of your daughter. What a blessing for you and your family! Thanks for sharing your story with us.
I LOVED CRASH. I didnt think I would and wasn’tt even going to watch it, but my 19 year old son kept telling me that I would really enjoy it. It was just one of those movies that makes you think long after its over. Don Cheadle is so fn amazing, he is one of the best actors to come around in a long time.
Both the mister and I really liked Crash. I can understand why the critics were making noise about it. Glad you and NikkiZ made it throught the game okay.
My friend and I were gonna watch Crash last night, but I told him I didn’t think I could handle the emotional upheaval that was likely to bring, so we rented The Longest Yard instead…and even that upset me too much.
Crash…loved it, loved it, loved it! It was great & hard to watch all at the same time. I agree, some parts were difficult. And some parts were so heartbreakingly beautiful.
