MrZ commented on this entry and I decided to make an entry out of it to help fill in the blanks for the whole “Four Hour Trip to Home Depot” concept. Also? He went back again yesterday, because four hours on Saturday wasn’t enough.
MrZ’s To-Do List [with commentary from me.]
- Replace all rotten wood trim on the house including window trim. ["rotten" is an over-exaggeration, it's a wee-bit squishy in PLACES...we arent letting the whole house deteriorate before our eyes, I promise]
- Rebuild the front porch railing [Huh? I didn't know he was going to do this. I must have missed that memo.]
- Install a storm door in the front [Because I need another pane of glass to clean dog slobber off of]
- Rip out siding from screened in porch & replace it w/ pine sheets [Eventhough I objected. Probably BECAUSE I objected, now that I think about it]
- … use the siding from screened in porch to repair bad spots in the siding on the rear of the house [What about the bad spots on the rear of your wife? There's some sagging going on she needs to tend to, did you buy any supplies to fix that?]
- Build a dog door into the back wall of the porch [Yes. You heard him right. Created a dog door in a WALL.]
- & create a mulch-filled planter box on the outside of the wall, so the dogs don’t break their legs from the drop-off. [Stupid dogs willl probably jump OVER it and break their backs instead]
- Rescreen the porch and door (which the dogs shredded for us, hence the need for their own door)[Huh? What's wrong with the screen on the porch, no animals were jumping through that...I don't think]
- Replace rotten wood on garage door and re-trim [I can't see that high up so I never noticed it]
- Last but not least… Paint the house [the ENTIRE house. It's going to be a long summer.]

Hi Miss Zoot,
I have really enjoyed reading about you and your wonderful family. I’d like to include a link to yours on my newly started blog. If you’d rather I didn’t, please let me know and I’ll remove it ASAP.
Thank you again for the many smiles you’ve given me as I’ve read about you and yours!
Always,
Cecelia
HA! At least Mr. Z HAS a list! I have to fight with Scott to even agree to do something, and then it never gets done! WTF?! Take, for instance, the stones. We found a whole bunch of slate stones buried shallowly (is that a word?) in the ground in the front of our house. It looked like it had once been a path to the front door. So we agreed to dig them all up and re-set the path! Well, we got so far as to digging most of them up…now? They just sit on the side of the house, the perfect resting spot for snakes. And this project? Started 3 years ago….
Sounds oh-so-much like my house. Only replace dog door, with cat door and paint only trim and places needing it (about 40%). Pretty close. I recommend hiding or breaking a finger nail or getting a cough or something.
WOW, now that IS a to-doo list. Tell him I said “May the force be with you!” .
I think it’s cute how guys will come up with things to do if it involves stocking up at a hardware/electronics store. And it could be the most OBSCURE crap in the world, but suddenly it’s on… The List! Dum dum duuummmmm….
Go Johnny HauteArms!
Umm can I borrow, rent, keep him? Need just a few bazillion things done around here..
Dude, home ownership is so overrated sometimes - and by sometimes I mean when the husbands decide to turn into Bob Villa and charge up the Home Depot cards as if there was an unlimited stream of cash coming in. My house is non stop under construction and my head is read to cave in.
Memo to husbands: If we had an unlimited stream of money coming in, we would have bought a mansion that needed no work at all.
What my husband’s response memo to me would be: What fun is that? Oh, and also, don’t ever call me Bob Villa again - dude sucks.
Oh. My. God - that is one hell of a list! Meanwhile MY own summer list includes - move into new house sometime in next three and a half weeks, sleep, have baby - on time preferably - not late if possible, then try to sleep. My Husb’s list, however, is much longer and much more productive - more power to the dude…I hpe he dosen’t want /count on help from me because I will will be very, very busy storing up on sleep.
When Mr. Z finishes up at your place will you send him up north to MD to keep MY husb company?
Wishin I had a house to fix up, Thankful because it sounds like alot of work and I am already tired.
Oh you cutie, I don’t know whether to feel sorry for you or be jealous. Jealous, I think.
Just reading that list made me tired. Eegadss…it will be a long summer. Maybe you should just take a vacation for a few weeks and let him get to it.
Good luck, I bet it will be great when it’s all done!
