Michelle and I were going to meet for yoga class this morning, but they started about 8 minutes early, so when Michelle got there (only FIVE minutes early, the NERVE) the lights were out and I was very willing to jump at the excuse to just “skip it” and do something else. First of all? Walking into a dimly lit room where others were relaxing on the floor doing yoga? Seemed like a disaster waiting to happen with me and my klutzy mannerisms. But also? I was scared. There, I said it: I’m scared of yoga! Maybe next week…
Instead, we walked around the indoor track while our boys played racquetball. It’s a small track around the basketball court (16 times = 1 mile = I think they’re liars because that’s got to be at least five miles) and we were the only ones on it this morning. As we rounded the first corner, I realized there was a sign on the wall. It said something like “Mon, Wed, Friday” with an arrow pointing one way and then “Tues, Thurs, Sat, Sun” with an arrow pointing the OTHER way. And of course, wouldn’t you know it, we were walking in the wrong direction.
Being the rule-followers we are, we immediately turned and went the other direction. We didn’t need the lap police to come hunt us down or anything, but how weird is that? Did they not want the floors worn the same way? Are there groups staunchly committed to one direction or the other and this was the only possible compromise? Is the Coriolis Effect involved somehow?
First? It was the locker room confusion, now this. Who knew joining the Y would end up being so mentally taxing?

You should totally try the yoga class next week! Don’t be intimidated. After a couple classes I’m sure you’ll be hooked. I’m a huge klutz as well, so if I can learn to love yoga, I’m certain you can too!
I agree, give yoga a chance (but what is whith starting class early!?). Also, they change the lap directions so that people who walk everyday don’t hurt their knees by constantly taking turns in one direction.
at my gym there used to be this older guy…I would always walk in the opposite direction from him, and he had the nerve to tell me to go the other way. it’s a freaking CIRCLE, people!! so I ignored him.
You know what I just thought of this morning? Maybe they started early because there were already 24 people. You know how it says on the schedule that it’s limited to the first 24 participants? Otherwise, that’s really messed up to start a class early. That’s the only thing I can think of. Next time we’ll stake out a claim on our spots really early.
Yikes! You two sure have a lot to remember once you arrive at the Y. Don’t those people know it is hard enough to get there much less get there before 24 other people who are waiting for you in the dark. I would have been scared too:)
Your blog always has new posts and I love that! Also love all the cute pictures. Your baby is adorable and is always looking so happy!
Who knew working out was hard on your brain as well as your body?
I LOVE that you threw that Coriolis comment in there and I didn’t even have to click the link to know what you were talking about!! ; )
I think t they alternate directions on indoor tracks for the people that run every day so that they have equal wear and tear on their knees and joints.
