Blogher
Category: About Me |

I’ve been avoiding talking about Blogher because I’m so SCARED. Have I mentioned how TERRIFIED I am? FREAKED THE EFF OUT? AAAHHHH.

But, I leave tomorrow, so I guess I should talk about it. A little bit.

MrZ will not be going with us since he will be heading south to Slidell for his Grandmother’s funeral services. I will be flying across country with two kids and no other adults to help. This may kill me sometime around Dallas, so be prepared. Either that or you’ll read about me dumping my kids off with some stranger while I hit Happy Hour at the airport bar.

I arrive in San Jose Thursday night, too late to make it too the speaker meet-up which really upsets me because I was hoping to use that chance to meet the women that I will be speaking with the next morning. It’s going to be weird sharing a workshop with women I just met - lucky for them I’m insanely hyper so it won’t give me time to freak them out at all.

So - are you going? Let me know if you are so we can try to meet up. If you’re not? Why not? I need all the support I can get! And if you’re flying across country to San Jose on Delta email me. If we’re on the same flight I’m totally making you help me with my luggage. Thanks!

I’m totally flying out to California on Delta!! But not until next week. And I’m going to San Diego. Too bad - I so would have taken those kids off your hands in a minute!

  3. Nila Says:

Not going. Wish I was, just to meet great people like you.

Have fun, and you’ll be fine with a helper like Lil Z around. Can;t wait to hear about the shenanigans.

Though I hate to say it, this year is a no-go for me, with all of the money troubles and job issues I’ve been having this year. I really want to go next year, though. Maybe we can go together!

I’m not going because of money issues, and fear of planes issues, and … basically, because I suck. Wish I was going. Have fun!

Have Mr. Z bring the kids to Slidell. I will go and get them and take them down Bourbon Street and have Nikki Z flash everyone for beads? No? okay…understandable….everyone travel safely!

I’ll be there, but not until really really late on Thursday.

Sorry I can’t help with the luggage.

Yeah, ya know I’ll be there. I had a feeling Mr Z wouildn’t be going after yesterday. But I’m sure Lil Z will be fantastic help with NikkiZ. :)

Hey, we’re gonna be in town earlier than I thought (we’re freaking out too, about traveling with a three week old and are leaving as early as we can tomorrow morning). So if you would like a ride from the airport to the hotel (ya know, something more personal than a freakin’ shuttle…and more helpful cuz Kile is a great luggage rustler), let me know. I’d be happy to help ya out and get an “early meet” in. :)
Try not to worry too much, I know you’re gonna be FABULOUS in the workshop. :)

Duh- I posted this comment on the wrong entry so here I am correcting myself.

I know a thing or two about traveling alone with a baby. So here are my two cents worth iffin you are interested.
Bring lots of one dollar bills so you have money to TIP the shuttle/taxi drivers and/or the curb service guys at the airport. Spend the extra money and curb check your bags- it’s just so much easier!!
Also, have dollar bills so you can get your new best friend at the luggage claim- the Smart Cart. These little babies are worth every damn dollar (I have seen them go for as high as $3.25). Or, you could have LilZ scout the area for an abandoned one and save some bucks. Just remember: Smart Cart!!!
On the plane the thing I found to be the easiest was to have 1.) your diaper bag stuffed with all the neurotic things you are just sure NikkiZ will need. Okay, she won’t need them all but as moms we are allowed to be insane and pack more than we need (ie: extra clothes for you, her and lilz, new toys that will interest her when she starts a little melt down, snacks-god bless veggie puffs!, plastic spoons, bum cream, dipie wipies, diapers, water bottle, sippy cup, drool/snot rag, socks, ….)
BUT! The key here is to have bag number 2!
This is the bag that will be teenytiny and can fit in the little pouch in the seat in front of you. Think: makeup bag type small. This is for essentials only. Trust me on this one. You are not going to be wanting to hump around in that big diaper bag of yours, which will probably be in the overhead compartment because I hope you are requesting the bulkhead row. The bulkhead row is mom’s other best friend. More room! The one downside is having to have your big bag up above. So yes, the little bag will have like one diaper and a few wipes and a toy or two and some snacks. Essentials. Once you use them replenish from big bag. This “method” of traveling got me through my big trips with little mister with only minor fraying around the edges.
Oh- The other passengers on the plane and in the airport will be a lifesaver for keeping a bored NikkiZ happy. When little mister was getting into a state, I would find some friendly stranger to engage him with. Settled him down everytime.

And, don’t forget to have a total blast. You are gonna do great and have great fun!

  12. jes Says:

Hey! I’m in Dallas. But I’m flying American. But maybe we’ll be in the airport at the same time and can say hi. But maybe we’ll be in different terminals with not enough time to make the trip.

My flight leaves Dallas at 12:45. Email me if you’ll be in Dallas at that time!

  13. Magnolia Mom Says:

I would have love to have gone, but they did it too late in July. It needs to be earlier in the summer next year!

  14. jennster Says:

i am going, but won’t arrive until friday night. then the party begins! oh yeah!

  15. Silly Hily Says:

I’m not going b/c a)I’m a big chicken shit b)I don’t have the money c)I don’t have any time off work d)I feel too “new” to be attending something like BlogHer since I’ve only been blogging for 8 months so I don’t think I really belong. I would love to learn some new stuff and meet fabulous women though.
I have a question though. So, do people take their kids to BlogHer? I thought it was kind of like an adult women only type thing. No?

  16. foodmomiac Says:

I’ll be there - looking forward to meeting you!!! And I have a feeling that once your arrive, everyone will be eager to help with the kiddos. Good luck on the plane! (it makes a huge mess and is sooooo unhealthy, but I had good luck keeping my 11 month old occupied a couple of weeks ago on the plane with a lollipop.)

  17. Isabel Says:

I’m not going because I didn’t think my husband would go for it. But then when I finally mentioned it to him (last week), he got all excited and told me I should totally go. But helloooo…it’s too late now.

So next year I’ll totally be there.

Have fun and good luck on the flight. You and the kids will do great.
