When it rains?

So far this month:

I had to face the facts of the hell that is parenting a middle-school-er

Had my closet collapse on the head of my husband

Dropped my son off at the first day of middle school, making me age 10 years in one trip around a parking lot

Took my daughter to the emergency room to be poked and prodded after she puked on me for several hours on end

Well, I was starting to think this month was out to get me. Damn you August and your vengeful nature! You’ll never forgive me for being born in July, will you? So, I woke up this morning trying to psych myself out for a upswing of my mood. “I will NOT be stressed!” I told myself. I was going to quit letting the little shit bug me and I was going to look at the positive side of my life. Because seriously - my life ROCKS.

Then? Of course, MrZ realized less than an hour ago that LilGirl has a horrible wound on her neck. Like, so bad he almost gagged. Bare flesh. We don’t know what in the hell happened. I looks like a bite without puncture wounds. It looks BAD. And of course, it was 15 minutes after the vet closed so he had to take her to the Vet ER (which will cost us an arm and a leg). And the more we looked at it? The more we realized it looks really infected. I swear it wasn’t like that yesterday, but it looks like an older wound that has been festering. Her glands are swollen.

To put it shortly: We feel like the worst parents in the world. We have no idea how or when this happened, but it was more than a day ago and we missed it. We didn’t even notice her hurting.

So, he’s at the vet with her right now and I’m waiting to hear back from him. Trying my best to be positive.

Oh *hugs* to you. There is nothing worse than sitting home waiting for your hubby to call you from the vet when you know one of your furry children is sick.

Oh, sweetie… I’m so sorry. It seems like this month is sucking all around.

Aww try not to worry. That happens quite a bit to my pets because they mostly live outside. It probablly is a bite, and she’ll probably just get some antibiotics and within a day she’ll be feeling better :)

oh, that sucks! Many years ago my then husband let our cat out into the yard. Unbeknownst to me he got into a fight with another cat. I found out a day, or so, later when I was petting him and found a *huge* wound down to bare flesh. I absolutely freaked out. Fortunately, it turned out OK. Vet was wonderful, did all the right stuff and the kitty lived to a ripe old age. Oh, yeah - that’s now my ex-husband. There’s nothing that makes us feel like a bad parent than a pet!

This happened to a pet of mine too. Giant open hole in her side, almost like a bullet wound and mighty gross and painful looking. One day fine, next EEEEEW and POOR DOGGY. It was a huge wound, and I have NO IDEA WHATSOEVER as to how we missed it. She was. and is, fine. It’s terrible for you and your poor family to take another blow, and I’m so sorry you and your poor puppy are having such a crappy time. :(

Awwwww I’m sorry for you and LilGirl; hopefully the vet will fix her right up. (And these things happen, you know? Don’t beat yourself up.)

I don’t like petting other people’s pets even they are cleaner than my own. My friend gives her dogs baths every week and I simply can’t pet her dogs.

Aw, so sorry to hear about LilGirl. Maybe she wasn’t in so much pain, and that’s why you didn’t notice it right away?

Aww man dogs have a way of hiding these things well until they get really really bad. I think its because they know they will have to go tot he v-e-t. I just read Mr. Z’s post and am glad she is going to be ok!

You poor thing. I hope both your babies are mucho better today! Sending hugs from Nashville!

Don’t feel bad. Same thing happened with me and a cat years ago. Just randomly noticed a bloody patch of raw skin on the back of her neck. Turned out she had an allergy to the nylon collar I had gotten her. From then on it was leather only. Hope she’s feeling better…

And they say that “April is the cruelest month”. I’m guessing you would say that it comes in a close second to August.

If it’s any consolation, you are one hot mamma with a middle school-er.

My dog impaled himself on a stick once, and we didn’t notice right away. And our dogs live indoors all year round.

Hope all your girls are feeling better.
