We watched Cheetah Girls 2 Friday night and oh my GAWD it SUCKED. (MrZ: What were you expecting?) Now, there are two things you must remember before I continue. I liked both Cheetah Girls (the original) and High School Musical, so it’s not like I am against Disney Channel Original Movies, but CG2? Was not up to par. (MrZ: Par is, in fact, sub-par by normal standards.)
First? Raven seemed like she really did NOT want to be in that movie. I normally like her, and I think she’s really funny on That’s So Raven, but on CG2? Her heart just wasn’t in it. And the wardrobe people did not do right by her with their selections. She spent part of the movie in some weird robe thing and another part in a damn peacock costume, neither of which did anything to help her full figure. It’s like they didn’t know how to dress someone who wasn’t small. Sad, really.
I also thought the story was lame and the songs weren’t as good as in the first movie. Eh. Whatever. LilZ wasn’t even that impressed, and neither were the two friends who came over to watch it with us. So pretty much? Three tweens and one mom all agreed: The first one was WAAAY better.
And while I’m humiliating myself by actually writing a critique about a Disney Channel Original Movie (seriously, I have no life) I want to beg the tweens on the Internet to please QUIT ASKING ME FOR Z@c Efr0n’s email address. Somehow, this entry and this one have become some sort of Google mecca for kids looking for you-know-who’s email address. Even though I never mention having it - the comments on both of those entries (which you must check out if you wonder how the tween mind works these days) became riddled with requests for it. I also get at least two emails a week from kids begging for it. “I won’t give it to anyone, I promise!” or “It would be my dream come true to talk to him, please!” and I’m all WHAT THE HELL? Seriously. Please make it stop. I have started having nightmares about being chased down a dark alley by a group of rabid tween girls, all screaming at me to hand the email over. I think I need to be medicated.

Miss Zoot, you are too funny! Entertainment can come in all forms, even a disney movie. Have you seen Cowbelles? It just recently came out on DVD, (also a disney movie), with the singing sisters Aly and AJ. So the acting was so-so, but it was a cute movie. My 10yr old loved it. So I have to tell you that I don’t think you’ve hit an all time low. Sometimes you just have to review the movies for other moms, like me! Thanks!
At least you have an excuse to be watching Disney Channel movies. You have children and were watching the movie with someone from the target age group.
Me? I have no kids. On Friday night when most 21 year old girls are scantily clad and dancing the night away, I was in bed in my jammies watching Cheetah Girls 2 all by my lonesome.
So if anyone has hit a new low, it’s totally me!
I have to say I agree 100% with the suckage of CG2. Definitely not up to par.
Your post made me think of the scenes in Better Off Dead where the newspaperboy is chasing after John Cusack…”I want my two dollars!!!”
my daughter just told me this week that she wants to be a cheetah girl when she grows up.
until now, i had no idea that she was talking about that Raven group i keep seeing snippets of on Family (the channel in canada that gets all those tweeny disney shows.)
she has such high aspirations, my child.
My daughters thought the movie was Ok but not as good as the first but they HATED Raven’s clothes especially the weird visor long skirt thingy at the end. They also said she had scary eyes - not sure what that meant.
Glad to know I wasn’t the only Mom out there watching on Friday night!
I just finished reading those blog entries and the comments and now I am afraid for the future of America. Are these kids going to be my children’s Doctors, Lawyers or Teachers? Will they ever learn the correct spelling of “you”, “are”, or “hot”? Scary stuff I tell ya.
P.S. I tried to watch High School Musical and couldn’t get all the way through it. Maybe it deserves another look-see.
Good to know not to bother with that one. I can’t believe I like High School Musical either. I think I’m going to have to post a musical movie review, comparing and contrasting it to Rent.
Oh no! I too was hoping it would be good. Woe is me!
My daughter LOVES Raven. Me… not so much, not in Cheetah Girls and only somewhat in That’s So Raven.
My 6 y.o. was also quite disappointed with CG2. But to be honest I was not all that surprised. They took the three “lesser” singers and made them a group, and Raven is only along for the movies. This movie could have done just as well (or as poorly) without her.
To be honest I have enjoyed far more Disney Channel Movies, than I usually want to admit. Now You See It, Kim Possible: So The Drama, Go Figure, Cow Belles and of course High School Musical. But for every gem there are plenty of stinkers as well. And CG2 fits in the latter (as I am sure the rumored CG3 will be as well).
Oh great… now I am out of my Disney Channel Movie Closet.
Cowbelles rules they can act n sing im sorry to say that high shol musical was a great big let down. it was all hyped up and for whet they could of at least shown the musical. but aly and aj rule!!! they sing better, act better and lets face it there movie is better. cheetah girls is boring. COW BELLES RULES
