NikkiZ is still asleep as we speak. She has slept through the night (in her crib - sob) every night this week but Sunday. I think I actually made it all night last night without once freaking out that she was still asleep. I did, however, freak out because she’s in her damn crib instead of in our bed. I just miss having her next to me, but - that’s part of the Two Parent package, I guess. Compromises. And matching airbrush t-shirts.
If you’ll recall, when NikkiZ was born, we started locking the dogs out of our bedroom at night. This has meant that since last October, LilZ has been sharing his bed with Sweetie (the blanket hog) and Cisco (the stinky sleep-farter). There have been several times where he has expressed frustration with them and how sucky they are to share a bed with. I’ve told him he could lock them out of his room at night, but he has always felt too guilty.
But now, as he stays up later and gets up earlier - his sleep is becoming more precious. This week, he decided to lock them out at night. When I woke him up after the first peaceful night’s sleep he’s had in 10 months, he was euphoric. He kept saying, “I can’t believe it! I didn’t wake up at all last night!”
So - both my babies are finally sleeping through the night. Now, if only I could say the same about myself.

Sleeping through the night is such a wonderful thing! I’ve finally strated doing that recently too after a long period of time where I was waking up two or three times a night. It makes you feel like a new person, doesn’t it?
I finally started locking the cats out of the bedroom at night, against the desires of my finace, and my sleep habits have gotten tremendously better.
Good luck curing your own sleep problems.
Arun is still not sleeping through the night in the crib - he has only done that once, a long, LONG time ago and yes, I did wake up at like 3:30 in a panic that one time.
However, he is starting off each night in the crib which is a HUGE advancement for us. I am still torn, though because on the one hand, it would be nice if he slept there the entire night, but on the other hand, it would be nice to have him wake up at midnight, on the dot, just in time for ME to go to bed. Because, yeah - if given the choice, I’d like to have my cake and eat it, too.
Also, I really appreciate my sleeping “personality” now! I’ve have always been the type to wake up periodically throughout the night (even to let cats out, get a drink of water, go to bathroom, read a book), so having Arun there doesn’t bother me. however, I know that “normal” people would be miserable in this situation.
Anyway - I am so glad things are getting better for you sleep-wise!!
5:18am?
nut
Mr. Cheeks has slept through the night in his own bed for the last two nights. He used to wake up in the middle of the night and one of us would go and get him and bring him into bed with us. I miss him and his little warm, toaster oven body. And I think Jax, the toy schnauzer, misses his bed bug buddy a little too.
Pets in your room at night can be just as bad as babies in your room at night. Between our doggies, who are 13 and pace all the time, and our almost-2-year-old (who sleeps in her crib in her room, but still wakes up at least once a night), sleep is more precious than gold. Or chocolate, even.
I missed having the babies sleeping with us, when they transitioned to the crib. My husband didn’t miss ‘em at all.
Roxy is both a blanket hog AND a stinky-sleep farter…and like sleeping with a 35 lb rock in the bed. And…if she thinks you are in her space…she will grunt at you and push against you…she is quite a rude little doggy to sleep with.
Man. Jack tricked us. He slept 11 hours straight in his crib for six nights. And then he started waking up again. For the last six nights.
Sob.
I swear it’s worse that he did it because now we KNOW he can do it and he’s just fucking with us.
I hope NikkiZ does not revert. Savor it while you can!
I always thought that Laura was the stinky sleep farter…
My son is nearly 4 months old and breastfed. He is NOT sleeping through the night. He hasn’t even slept a 5 hour stretch in weeks. I know I shouldn’t complain (he is still quite young) but I feel like a zombie.
Congrats on NikkiZ sleeping through the night now. 6 more months in a long time to wait though…
You’ll get used to sleep again, promise! She is just growing up so fast, I can’t believe it. There goes another milestone.
