This is the junk drawer of blog entries

When you spend a day in the ER with a sick child…the rest of your life piles up outside of that hospital room, seemingly twice as much as it would if you were – say – at home doing laundry. It’s a strange effect that I’m sure could be quantified in terms of Parental Anxiety and Stress Tolerance. Instead let’s just leave it as I’ve Got A Lot Of Shit To Do and No Time to Do It In. Therefore – here is the most random of entries funneling thoughts as they pop out of my head directly to this entry box:

I had an allergy attack last night and one of my eyes decided to rebel against me by itching uncontrollably for hours. Today I look like I’ve either been beat up (on one side of my face) or stoned out of my mind. I’m not sure which would be better for those I encounter to believe.

I lost one of my favorite pens. It is purple. I am sad.

I realized yesterday that I often wear my socks inside out. I notice this because I have to kick off my shoes before entering NikkiZ’s class. Should I start paying more attention to wear them the right side out? Or do you think anyone cares? What if one is correct and one is wrong? Is that worse than both being wrong?

Should I dye my hair red again? I miss my red hair. (That sound you heard was my husband screaming, “Nooooo!” at the top of his lungs.)

I was looking up the times for last year’s half-marathon and I discovered that at my current 7.5-mile pace, I would have come in about 5th from last. And chances are I’d be a lot slower than my 7.5-mile pace on a 13-mile race. This makes me discouraged. I joke about being the slowest one out there – but I didn’t realize I really was the slowest.

I’m hungry.

I was stretching out this morning and I actually hurt my ear. What the hell is up with that? I strained something around my ear when stretching and it still hurts. I think that is probably one of the lamest injuries ever. Right up there with hyper-extending your hair.

I’m hungry too. And I have to go the grocery store before dinner. I have a feeling this will be an expensive trip to the store!

Is hyperextending your hair when it’s been in a pony tail or other containment type situation for too long – and it hurts when you release it? I used to do that all the time.

  3. Nette says:

But at least you’d finish the race. Most of us won’t even start.

frankly, i’d rather have the slowest time out there than NOT BEING OUT THERE. honestly. think of yourself 6 months ago– you’re moving a hell of a lot faster than you were then! plus, by the time you get up to running double digit runs (gah, am tired for you) your times will steadily improve.

this of course coming from the girl who ran 2 miles the other day and thought she would die.

When my husband does the laundry, he pairs white socks with white socks, and it doesn’t matter if they’re differeny *styles* of white socks, if they’re white, they are paired. Is wearing two different white socks worse than wearing one right side out and one inside out? I’m thinking yes.

I was going to type something in all caps and make a joke about your ear, but by the time I got done laughing at my own funniness, I realized it wasn’t really that funny.

First love the new skin, and second, I hate hyperextending my ears. Such a painful injury!

I haeve never been last in a half…there arre always walkers…and the people who lay down

I’m with MrZ. The red hair looked good on you, but your natural color’s so pretty, why mess with a good thing?

    R.I.P. purple pen.

  10. “I lost one of my favorite pens. It is purple. I am sad.”

That’s very eloquent. IMHO, that’s worthy of a stand alone entry right there.

On the hair issue: STAY GOLDEN! I think blonde-ish looks nice with your coloring.

Your ear?!?!?! That’s never even happened to me, and you know how injury-prone I am.

Speaking of injuries, have you seen all of the new equipment at the Y? AWESOME! I wasn’t sure if you’ve been going in anymore now that you’re running longer distacnces.

Hope that little one is feeling better today.

Oh my God, I just lost it at the ear. You strained your ear. That is possibly the most awesomely hilarious statements ever.

  12. Tina says:

Socks: I do the same thing. I hope no one cares, because I don’t. I don’t have time to be pulling socks in/out (or how ever you would say from ‘inside out’ to ‘inside in’).

  13. tiff says:

“hyperextending your hair” is hilarious. Might have to steal that one, if I ever write a post about how I hurt myself while working out.

Which may never happen, because the working out requires sweat, and I’m allergic to that stuff.

don’t worry about your time. i ran my first whole marathon this spring. i went from only running 3 miles or less sporadically, to training for a marathon from january to may. it was tough but worth it. just remember that not that many people would even have the motivation/desire to start. you’ve already won regardless of your time. if you need any encouragement(as if you don’t get enough on the site), let me know. i’ve full of tips.

by the way, my final time for the marathon was 4:58(thats hours & minutes). not the best, but i finished.

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
