I’ve been so wrapped up in family sickness and random craziness I haven’t been able to mention a few developments in my love of all things “entertaining.” Since I know you have all been on pins and needles wondering how I feel about the new season of Desperate Housewives (can’t even bring myself to watchin one episode) or Justin Timberlake’s latest single (it’s growing on me) - I thought I’d make this entry a hodgepodge of Entertainment Industry Related Nonsense.
I’ve decided what it is that makes me really love Studio 60. Well, besides Matthew Perry, of course. I mean, it’s funny/witty/entertaining and all that good stuff, but I seem to love it proportionally more than I’m entertained by it. I finally figured out why. There is a part of me who really wants to imagine the personalities behind my favorite television shows being as cool as the characters on Studio 60. All of those fictional people are just so cool - the actors, the writers, the producers…even the network executives. I want the real-life people behind all of the television I watch to be just as cool. They probably aren’t…but that doesn’t keep me from hoping.
I never bought TV Guide when it was in the small format we all associate with the publication. (Did you even know it had changed formats?) I mean, I think I bought a few collector’s editions of some Simpson’s covers (that are god-only-knows-where right now) but for the content? Never. I didn’t like the newsprint pages and the schedule print was too small. All of that said? I am now a TV Guide subscriber. The new format has brought a bunch of great changes that make it much more like Entertainment Weekly by providing a lot of actual news and/or articles. ALL ABOUT TELEVISION. I don’t know if it was that informative before…but I love it now. If you havent checked it out since they started the new format - you totally need to. At least if you’re a TV Junkie like I am.
I do not think I’ve rented a movie since NikkiZ was born. Where I totally keep up with everything television-related, I haven’t seen anything in the world of movies in months. MONTHS. I feel so out of touch. We used to rent movies quite often, but when we curl up at night, we’re too busy catching up on TiVo shows to watch a movie. Have I missed anything good? If we were to go rent something, what shoud we rent?

Well I just got via netflix Click, The Break Up and the Lake House. Once I see those I will let you know. Any of the movies I have seen have been in the theaters…and I too was just doing the TIVO thing. I decided to get caught up on some movies like Brokeback Mountain…all the hip and happening movies from like a year ago. So far not one stands out. So no…not missing much.
I actually saw Little Miss Sunshine in the theater this summer. If it is out already, that is my recommendation. It was quirky and very well done.
It’s been driving me crazy why I’m so addicted to Studio 60, especially when I didn’t love The West Wing (yes, I know, stick me dead for saying so). Thanks for putting a finger on it.
Yep, that’s definitely it for Studio 60. You like the characters and they feel real. Of course, I’ve never known anyone who worked on a TV show, so I know they might not be like that at all. But I do want them to be.
Lakehouse…!!!
Oh, Lakehouse was too predictable. Those two have done too many movies together. There was no emotional connection in their characters. If it really has been a while (like me) try Walk the Line. FANTASTIC movie!! I can watch it over and over. The actors put their hearts and souls into that film. You won’t be disappointed. Oh, and I didn’t think I’d like it when my husband brought it home.
No way could I come up with enough superlatives for Crash, so I’ll just say great!
I’ve seen a few episodes of Studio 60, and it’s not bad, but the banter reminds me a lot of what used to go on at Sports Night–and Sports Night did it better.
In terms of movies, I just saw The Break-Up. Not bad. I personally spent most of my Sunday watching episodes of Murder, She Wrote on DVD. Classic.
One more thing: Just Like Heaven is a great flick. Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo are wonderful together.
this is not a movie, but important nonetheless: http://www.24trailer.com/
The trailer is coming out today! in like less than 4 hours! Excitement!
OH — and just total randomness: http://www.seejanework.com Office supplies for women! someone just told me about it today, so thought I’d share with you, the self-professed office supply junkie. (looks pretty cool, although I’m guessing you already know about it)
okay, just read the comment rules and discovered why my comment wasn’t published. *sigh* i’m really not bad!

We always had TV guide in our house growing up. I subscribed to it a few years ago and I love the new format. I don’t even really look at the TV listings, I use my on screen guide for that, but the articles are always good.
Studio 60 - I still don’t think it is THAT great of a show, but nevertheless, I am totally hooked. I love just about anything that will show “behind the scenes” stuff like that.
TV Guide - I was a faithful subscriber until I got high speed internet over 4 years ago - I found that I was getting my TV schedule online more easily than digging through the mag. I completely agree with you on the new format! In fact, I still have their Fall 2006-07 Season guide that I use to double check that the DVR is actually recording what it should be recording.
As a mother with a babe the age of Nikki, trust me on this - NETFLIX! We didn’t watch any movies until we got NetFlix a few months ago. No rush or guilt if you can’t get to them, no late fees.. in the beginning, we watched movies piecemeal during naps/sleeps. Now we watch a movie every Friday night. Won’t be going back to Blockbuster EVER again! I’m thinking Netflix was invented by a mom
Love the new design. Haven’t seen a show or movie in ages, so I thought I’d just give a shout out on what i HAVE seen!
We just rented the Lake House last night. I liked it, but it was a little slow at times. Worth seeing though, at least so you can decide whether it’s crap or not.

I am loving my Blockbuster online account. A little too much.
I looove TV guide. I have a subscription and so does my Mom & Sister.
yes, we need to get out more.
i haven’t BEEN to a movie theater to actually watch a movie, if that makes you feel any better. we’re ALL about netflix…but, w/so much “new” tv out there in tvland, we’re falling behind on netflix movies as well…
Nacho Libre. No rhyme. No reason. Just funny as hell.
I love my Blockbuster Online account! I get three movies at a time unlimited, plus they email me a coupon for one free rental every week.
We just watched “Fun with Dick and Jane”, which we liked. And my husband, who never wants to watch a “chick flick”, really liked “Just Like Heaven”. Tonight we’re watching “Click”.
Hope Nikki is feeling better.
I agree with Bunny: definitely rent Little Miss Sunshine when it comes out.
