Did you notice the new button I put up yesterday on my sidebar? The pretty “Kind Blog” button? Did you click it? Are you now wondering if I’m joining some sort of granola commune blog where we promote excess use of smiley faces and {{{hugs}}}?
Well. I am. Kinda.
I found first mention of this movement (hee! I said “movement”!) over at shnozzfest and I immediately followed her lead and put the button on my site. There has been a rise in the number of blogs created for the sole purpose of making fun of, picking on, or bitching about other bloggers and this site is something created by Karen (who I’ve met and is just as lovely in person as she seems online) and Jen (who I’ve not met in person, but I can tell is just as lovely) to respond to that.
Schnozz put it best when she said:
Your words are real. They have real consequences. Do your best to use them for good.
Exactly. I promise to try to save my bitchiness for bad drivers, bigots, Crimson Tide fans, and people who don’t like donuts.

I’m kind! And Zoot, I love you, but I don’t like donuts.
I, too, am kind! OMG, Zoot - I’ve been semi-lurking for a little while. Did you go to Auburn? My sister did! War Eagle!
Love the graphic and have already stuck it on my site!
But what about the NELLY OLSON moments when you need to vent about the people in your life….like my mother…..or Husband…I guess I can’t cut and paste! Whaahaha
Who in the world doesn’t like donuts??
I love that!!
Random off the wall question…how come it says your posting these at like 4 and 5 in the morning? is it a delayed posting thingy? or am I just going even more crazy?
I am just now beginning to realize that there are people out there whose mission in life is to mock/cut down/ridicule other bloggers. In my naive world I never imagined people would have the time and energy to just bash each other. I will admit, though, I’ve poked fun at Britney Spears on my blog but she’s having the last laugh now!
I love the idea of this, though. It’s like a blog love in.
Love it!
I actually clicked on that the first day you put it up and I LOVE the idea. It’s a great movement.
We can still complain right?
I don’t bash other bloggers anyway, so it’s all good.
I like how celebrities were also included, but I still love Go Fug Yourself. The Britney letters are the best.
That’s a great idea! There’s definitely too much meanness out there lately.
I noticed your pretty flower button this morning and clicked on it! I think it is great. I guess because I am fairly new to blog land I don’t really get why people need to be rude and unkind. I got a rude comment just the other day and I thought, why don’t you just not read my blog? Huh? Seems pretty easy to me. Anyways, I love it, and if I can ever figure out how to add it to my blog, I will. I am slightly (okay mostly) technically challenged. Thanks!
I don’t know, girl. I mean, you already know how much I prize genuine kindness, and also how I think that endless snark-for-snark’s-sake is nihilistic and ultimately an exercise in absurdity. But, still, to vow that I’ll always, categorically, no matter what be kind in the space that I’ve carved out for my own self-expression feels kind of censorshippy. Women have been pressured since time immemorial to assume the martyr role, and it kind of rankles to have that thrust upon us like a mandate. I love the dynamic dialogue in the blogworld. Sometimes it gets ugly, but more often than not, I think the plurality of voices and opinions is endlessly fascinating. Maybe “Civil Blog” would be more on point?
What a great idea! I’m going to try to be a kinder person as well.
Have you seen bloggygossip? It’s a site dedicated to spreading good words about bloggers instead of the insults. I’m a fan.
Great idea, y’all. I’m totally on board (but can I still bitch about my MIL? No? No. Of course not. Right. .. )
Lay off the TIDE fans now…
Don’t be bitchy to people who don’t like donuts. Anyone who suffers from a mental illness deserves to be treated with kindness and human respect. It’s a sad thing to not like donuts, but we can reach out to teach these people what is missing from their lives.
At first I was all, “cool, I want that button.” I thought I was pretty nice. But, I admit that I have, on occasion, called Ryan Seacrest the anti christ on my blog. Is that wrong? Would that maybe hurt his feelings? Ok, I don’t deserve the button.
Oh, Stacey, she really does post at 4 and 5 in the morning. She’s like the Dunkin’ Doughnuts man of bloggers — except the doughnuts are Krispy Kremes.
So you’re one of those spiteful ones then, huh?
Oh, and by the way? ROLL TIDE! ROLL!!
I love you, girl. . . : ) Sorry I keep missing your calls. I think that it’s going to be this way pretty much until Dec 15. : ( I haven’t slept in about 36 hours.
I love that button for several reasons, but mostly because you truly do live by that rule.
