We need a baby-whisperer

NikkiZ’s school uses signs with the kids to encourage them to communicate even if they don’t speak. She knows the signs for “more,” “eat,” “cookie,” and “all done.” Lately, she has opted for a different communication technique when you just aren’t feeding her fast enough. It’s this scream/grunt/growl combination that means, “Feed me faster, servant.”

Last night MrZ was just refusing to feed her until she did her sign for “more.” She would grunt and he would say, “Do you want more?” While he was doing the sign for “more.” As you see in this picture, she responded with looks of, “Ah. You’re so cute trying to be all parent-like and crap. Now, give me the food before I throw this table top at your head.”

She finally gave in and did her modified “more” sign which is a combination of “more” and “cookie.” She uses that one often so we allowed it. Notice the pained look on her face, like there could be nothing worse than having to actually use language to relay her demands when screaming and grunting should be adequate.

Sidenote – Bib? Huh? What’s that?

We gave up on bibs once Fuller decided that wearing them was for babies. Nevermind that he was a baby. Congrats on the sign language. I hear consistency is the key, which would be why Fuller never got the hang of it- we were not consistent at. all. Plus, she is a cutie! She and Fuller should hang out. Except, he is an Auburn fan… would that be a problem?

Bibs? Hah! My daughter just whips them off and if I out them back on she cries like I am trying to strangle her. I am just best friends with Spray and Wash.

Have you digitally enhanced the color of your baby’s eyes? That blue is so pretty!

The Boy mastered the sign for “more”. I thought he was going to break all of his fingers once when he really wanted some more pickles RIGHT NOW!

I came here through NaNoBloMo! (Did I get that right?)

Your daughter is so adorable! She has such a pretty smile. The stains on her chin and clothes just add to her cuteness. :)

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
