When we were in New Orleans, I tried to do what I like to call Guerrilla Photography where I just carried my camera around my neck and snapped pictures of anything and everything. Sometimes it’s nice to just snap without thinking, and you’ll get some nice shots as you go. The whole time LilZ kept asking if he could take some pictures, but I was hesitant because my Daddy never taught me how to share. “It’s my camera. Back off.”
Eventually I passed it off to him, finally succumbing to the voice inside my head saying, “Be a grown-up for a change…jesus.” He ended up taking several beautiful shots along the way. I think children are less likely to wonder how something is going to turn out and more likely to just snap shots in interesting ways. My favorite is this one which is framed so uniquely. It also caught a great expression on his sister.
Of course, I yanked the camera back after about 15 minutes screaming, “Mine!” The adult inside me could only control the child for so long before the child beat her senseless with a baseball bat.

hey zoot..!!! thank god ur back..!!! i was beginnin to get worried..!!!
Christmas present, maybe? I feel the same about my camera, so I totally understand. Actually, I’m that way about almost all my gadgets, hence the current Battle for the Laptop that is raging in our household.
He took some awesome shots!!!
Welcome back. And I love the whole new look around here.
Wow, he did take some amazing shots. He definitely deserves his own camera so he can explore photography, if this interests him (and it seems that it does).
You might want to check into photography lessons in your area. A friend of mine has a son near LilZ’s age (within a year), and she enrolled him in a photography class last summer. We didn’t know this when we admired some framed prints she was preparing to hang–we thought she’d bought them, and wanted to know where. When she told us her son took them, we were completely floored. The photos were incredible–we’re tempted to ask for copies of them (and pay well for them, too!).
Beautiful shots! You guys should be so proud!
