I promise I won’t let it happen again.

I totally did not mean to not post for TWO WHOLE DAYS. I know NaBloPoMo is over, but I still like to keep up my reputation as Queen of the Perpetual Blog Posting. (That’s a real title, you know.) But - well - it’s Christmas Season! I had to do Christmas-type stuff, like eat Sushi with my husband and watch The Soup.

So, in the interest of not letting you miss out on every mundane detail of my life, I present to you The Weekend Wrap-Up - Bullet Style.

  • MrZ accidentally got SAKE at our favorite Japanese restaurant the other night. He ordered Asahi, which is a beer unique to that place, but she obviously misheard him. She asked, “Large?” He thought that was odd, but we both just assumed they had it on tap that night somehow, so he ordered a large which is usually about 20oz or so at other places. Well…he got SAKE. Neither of us had ever had it, and I skipped out that night since I was driving and I have the tolerance of a pre-schooler. I don’t think he liked it at all, but it got him adorably tipsy. He’s a cute drunk.
  • We went to Barnes and Noble to spend MrZ’s 5-year bonus from his company: $500 of B&N giftcards. (He chose that gift out of a catalog, and we only spent about $40 of it.) Oddly enough, he noticed someone he knew there signing books. He went over to talk to the guy and he was sitting next to a girl who was there signing her book. Turns out? MrZ knew her too. It was very strange. Very cool…but strange.
  • I ran 10 miles Saturday morning. I have another half-marathon to run in Tucson this coming Saturday, so this was my prep run. It was cold as hell, about 33°F when I left the house. My running pants, earband, and gloves did okay. But my face…so…cold. When I finally made it to Starbucks, I was afraid my skin was going to break off into frozen chunks of flesh.
  • But no blisters! That Glide stuff my Fleet Feet sells to prevent blisters did the job! I am now in love with the stuff. Thanks to all of you who suggested it.
  • Best Buy replaced our broken Canon on Saturday. When we bought it about 14 months ago, it cost $499. So, essentially we could replace it with ANY camera we wanted. If it was less than $499, it is considered our loss. If it is more? We pay the difference. We got the camera we wanted: Canon SD900, a perfect high power camera for throwing in your purse. It was an even trade since it wasn’t on sale this weekend (although it looks like it is now). All hail the Best Buy protection plans because everything that went wrong with the other camera was essentially my fault.
  • I bought a Christmas Tree on Sunday. I’ve been hesitant to replace our tree because I bought it Christmas of 1999, the first Christmas that was just LilZ and I. It was/is pitiful and cheap, but it was all we could afford. We decorated it with ornaments we made and it just holds a special spot in my heart. But it’s pitiful. So I decided to breakdown and start a new tradition that was for our whole family. Now, who wants to come put it up for me?
  • There were a lot of crazy people in line at Target for the 26 Wiis they had to sell that day. Some of them had been there overnight. What the hell? Are you guys those people? I don’t play those games because my hand-eye coordination is obscenely poor, but do you? Are you spending the night in the cold for one? Part of me is a little jealous because I love getting excited about stuff and I think it would be fun to spend the night out with a bunch of crazy moms and hyper teens. Even if I don’t want the damn thing. I’d spend the night and then when the store let us in I’d be all, “I’m just here for some soda.”

Whew. I have to now admit to this being the 80bagillionith time I’ve checked for a new post. I really didn’t want to have to make posters and drive to Alabama to search for you.

What about 2 trees? I have my sad little tree from previous memories, but I bought it new lights and bows and put it in the dining room. The live tree goes in the living room. And then there are the bathroom trees . . .

Oh my goodness, $500 at B&N. I’m drooling over here. What a great bonus! It’s so fun to have money to spend on leisure stuff like that.

  3. stacey Says:

I was starting to get worried. ;) Wow…$500 at B&N?? that is just heavenly!!

  4. Maria Says:

You show such restraint if you spent only $40 at B&N.

That last line is too funny.

  5. Stephanie Says:

Maybe you can put up the old tree in LilZ’s room?

I went with my boyfriend to buy a Wii when they first came out a couple of weeks ago. We only got up at 7AM (but on a Sunday!!!) and we found a Best Buy that was inside a mall so we didn’t have to wait in the cold. (Our first stop had been a Target, but they had already given out all the tickets to the people in line so we had to go off to find somewhere else. I’m so glad we did b/c that Target line was outside and that would have sucked.)

We spent the night at Target to get a Wii! It was the night they first came out. We were number 21 in line; they had 42 Wiis. My husband and I actually took turns sitting in line (in a sleeping bag on a folding chair) so that our 10 year old wouldn’t be sitting out in the cold with us all night. He did last a couple of hours, though, thanks to Starbucks hot chocolate! The three of us all love video games and we figured that since it was a Saturday night we could just sleep the next day.

We partly did it because I remembered my parents going to crazy lengths to get Cabbage Patch kids for my sister and me when we were little, and I thought my son would get a kick out of us doing something similar for him. It wasn’t as fun as the midnight Harry Potter releases we’ve gone to or the midnight Pirates 2 showing, and I don’t think we’d do it again, but it was fun.

And the Wii is really addictive. They’re billing it as a gaming system for everyone, not just gamers, and I think they’ve totally succeeded.

(By the way - I’m so jealous you’re going to Tucson! I lived there for a couple of years and I loved it. I miss the mountains!)

Heh, that would be funny if you stood in line and then just bought a soda.

    Also, tipsy boys are cute.

  8. Lisa Says:

Would I wait in line like that for a Wii? Probably. But my husband abhors gaming systems and it’s really not worth it for just me. Maybe when Girl is older she and I can obsess like that. But we HAVE waited hours upon hours in insane lines (never overnight tho. I think about 8-10 hours was our max) for other things. Opening night for all the Star Wars movies, a couple of rocking concerts that were general admission, stuff like that. So I totally identify with those people waiting :)

  9. Annie Says:

    I’d die if I got $500 at B&N! I seriously don’t know what I’d do.

that’s like the poor college student’s heaven right there. well, this poor college student anyway!

I was trying to get my boyfriend to wait in line for a Wii the day they came out, and we were planning on it, but we wouldn’t be able to get one at the EB where we had the gift card for. So we waited until Black Friday, and I went and got one for us. And we love it. It’s definitally not a system that’s just meant for gamers, it’s fun for the whole family. =)

I work for a liquor distribution company. Our system will not let me check to see exactly where Asahi is sold so that you can go buy it… but I do know that we sell it in most Wal Mart, Target and 7-11s in Texas.

    Just an FYI.

Aw Miss Zoot, you’re so adorable. “I’m just here for some soda.” hehe.
