One of the many perks of the new job
Category: I buy stuff |

I’ve been suffering the mall on Saturdays for so many Christmas shopping seasons that I had grown to have nightmares about it. And I like our mall, with it’s carpet and cinnamon sugar pretzel bites. But no matter how yummy the snacks are, the mall is a horrible place to be on Saturday in December.

But I have learned a valuable lesson today. Before lunch on a weekday? The mall is not so bad! I hit about six stores just over my lunch break. I work close enough to the good mall that it’s less than five minutes there and back, so I knocked out a crapload of Christmas shopping without even the slightest rise in my blood pressure. I had freedom to browse without worrying that the woman behind me would stab me with her cell phone for the last pair of striped leggings. I even had the luxury to ask for help from the employees - who actually seemed happy to help me because, if you can believe it, I think they were bored.

Screw the mall on the weekends. I’m never doing that again. It’s all weekdays pre-lunch all the time, baby. Fare the well shopping anxiety, Hello lines of credit!

It surprises me that you’re not an online shopper, somehow. That’s how I take care of 98% of my Christmas shopping anyhow. Just parking at the mall makes my blood pressure rise.

Best time to shop ? 9h30 am on a Monday morning… the malls are empty ! Plus, I feel like a queen with all those bored employees trying wow me…

If I have to shop in a store, I like to go early in the morning during December for the same reasons you mentioned.

Yep, that’s the only way. I did like 99% of my Christmas shopping online this year (baby and all, you understand), but we did have to go to the mall on Sunday. So the boys could see Santa. *shudder* I assured Kile that would be the last weekend you’d be catching me at the mall. During the week is one thing, but the weekend? FORGET IT.

I’m also surprised that you don’t do all your shopping online. I ventured out for shopping last Saturday, the plazas were OK, even Target was absolutely fine. The mall? Was a total nightmare. A huge, steamy, evil nightmare!

Your mall has carpet? How warm and cozy.

I’ve heard (good things) about you at Ali’s blog, so I thought I’d finally come by. :) I NEVER go to the mall on the weekend. You’ve got to be crazy to go to the mall on the weekend. Parking is terrible. Crowds are terrible….

Oops, forgot — Ali’s blog is “http://alimartell.com” — Cheaper Than Therapy sent me. :)

Now - I do a LOT of shopping online, don’t get me wrong. But there are a lot of things (like clothes) I like to see and feel and examine in person because I’m nutty like that. And possibly because I like to touch things.

Experiencing the sheer joy of living across from the mall has taught me that you are absolutely correct. It’s as if a barge unloads cars into the parking lots at 12 noon on the dot!

I loathe the mall on the weekends. Bleh.

Now, I try to keep my excursion in the middle of the day, middle of the week. When I was working, I found that going earlier in the week right after work was a slow time, too (i.e. go around 6:00 on a Monday or Tuesday). Yeah, it sucked giving up a precious evening, but the time saved versus a Saturday was golden.

I hear ya. It’s one of the perks of working unusual hours. I like going weekday mornings, so I can have the place practically to myself.
