Update on the boobs

I know…you are sitting on the edge of your seat simply dying to know how my 3-days-without-nursing challenge went, aren’t you? Well…I failed at pumping while in Tucson. Luckily, it didn’t hurt too bad going 2+ days without nursing or pumping. I also may have crossed some sort of etiquette boundary by talking to my brothers girlfriend about my sore boobs and fear of leaking. This was the first time I met her and I’m guessing I should probably have waited until the second or third time before discussing my boobs and lactating with her. Luckily she didn’t even seem phased by it and even came up with the brilliant suggestion that if I started leaking mid-race, I could dump water on myself at the aid stations to cover it up. BRILLIANT.

I came home very full and very much hoping NikkiZ would nurse. Which she did. No drama, no nothing. She just latched on like it was no big deal. Here I was freaking out for nothing.

Unfortunately now I’m having all sorts of boob-issues relating to getting so full and then her nursing so ravenously. I won’t go into the details other than say there is raw skin and bleeding involved. And that was probably more than enough detail, wasn’t it?

So, “Yay!” for nursing like there was never another plan but “Boo!” for chaffing and bleeding. Typical day on the boobfront.

Well, at least you didn’t talk about boob SWEAT. Save that for next time.

Honestly? I actually WAS waiting for a boob/lactation update. But I am a nerd. A Lactating Nerd.

Lansinoh to the rescue! Glad to hear that nursing was resumed without so much as a hitch.

I’m a Lactating Nerd too. Pumping version, that is.

Glad you still get your special time with Nikki…sorry your boobs hurt. That can not be fun.

Try warm (not hot) Teatley tea bags on your sore nipples. The tanin (sp?) in the tea helps. A nurse told me about it when I had my first son. You need to leave them on for about 10-15 min. several times a day. (It will stain your nursing bras-but so will blood) I asked if the caffine in the tea would hurt the baby-she just laughed at me.
Good Luck and good for you for trying!

I read your return post and was like, “What about her boobs?” Really. I even had to reread it. “Did she mention nursing?” :) I’m glad she didn’t wean herself before you were ready!

When I saw your post about the race I was really curious about your boobs. And, actually if you hadn’t posted I was going to do something I’ve never done, and email you (you’re the firstr blog I’ve veer posted comments on – emailing a blogger is still intimidating to me – I am a HUGE dweeb, I know).

I have a boob related question for you. I know you said you only nurse twice a day, so yourboob situation may be slightly diffrent than mine, but I’m the mother of a 4month old and I nurse her. I’ve recently started to take up jogging, thanks to your AWESOME inspiration, but I cannot for the life of me find a good, or even relativly decent sports bra. Can you reccomend yours? Before, when the girls didn’t fill up every few hours, it wasn’t an issues but now I’m toting around a double D cup, and jogging with these suckers HURTS. I actually broke down and spent an insane amount of money on the Victoria’s Secret “Shock Absorber”, but unless I wear another sports bra under it, it does me no good. The girls just kinda flop. SO um, yeah – i you could kindly reccomend something, my boobs would really appriciate it. thanks Zoot!

PS – I’m glad the nursing is still working out for you!

I remember waaaaaaaaaay back in 1995 when a friend called me from Mexico (she’d relocated with her husband), panicking about trying to pump, it wasn’t working, she couldn’t find any info… How times have changed. Now we’re all, Yeah, I wonder how Zoot’s boobs are?
