Like so many bloggers before me...

I took this at my brother’s house this weekend and am very proud of it. Every Christmas season I see bloggers successfully pull this great shot off and I can never find the perfect ornament, nor the perfect lighting. This year? Victory is MINE.

I love Christmas decorations. My favorites are snowmen. I’m not a big fan of most Santas, I find them a little creepy. I like other creatures dressed like santa: dogs, cats, turtles. You gotta love Christmas turtles! But snowmen are always cute. I have bought several snowman accessories over the years. We have a snowman tree-topper, snowman salt-n-peppa (hee) shakers, and snowmen snowglobes. But just last week MrZ was like, “Hmmm…do you like snowmen or something? I just realized they’re everywhere.”

Way to pay attention there, hon. Boys are so silly sometimes.

I think it was Linda who mentioned on one of her blogs (I’m too lazy to find which one or which entry, Sorry!) that one of the great things about being agnostic (besides not having to get up early on Sundays, of course…) is being able to just pick and choose what you like about Christmas and not worry about missing the “true” meaning. In our house, the “true” meaning of Christmas is family and food. I mean, we love getting to see family on the holidays…but it’s really the food that I have dreams about every night. Fudge…chex mix…casseroles…cocoa. All sorts of yummy things that we don’t usually have year-round. But the month of December? EVERYWHERE.

What are you favorites about the season?

We’re also agnostic, and food is also one of my favorite things about the season! In fact, just this moring I was planning out our Chrsitmas day menu. We have a big open house starting after 11 and lasting until people pass out. It’s probably my favorite day ever because I get to spend it with family and friends, and as weird as it sounds, I get to do lots and lots of cooking and there are always presents involved and it’s just the most fabulous day! OS yeah, this morning I started gettin giddy over the idea of my brunch and dinner buffet menus. Plus I’m even more jazzed that I am going to the store to get cookie and candy making stuff today. the rest of the week will be spent in my kitchen making all kinds of fattenting foods, and I absolutly cannot wait!

Also – I really dig on snowflakes. Not the real ones, but ornaments and stoking holders and pretty much anything with a flake design.

Ummmmmm- there’s nothing else in that room besides you and the tree… I tried pulling that shot off myself this year too, but only succeeded in getting what looked like a bulbus head and HUGE butt… so not worth it to me :)

    Good shot!!

I am eating Chex Mix for breakfast as I read!

I love presents. I know that probably sounds greedy, so let me clarify: I love to give AND receive. There’s a certain satisfaction that comes from knowing you’ve picked out the perfect present.

    Great shot, BTW!

That is a great picture! Did it take you lots of tries?

My favorite things include the onslaught of baking (it’s great to have an excuse to push buttery, sugary experiments on my family and co-workers), listening to Christmas music, wrapping presents, and watching “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. I love that line where Lucy’s all, “I get to be the Christmas Queen! Isn’t there a Christmas Queen, Charlie Brown? What kind of play is this if there isn’t a Christmas Queen?!”

And, randomly, since when is “My Favorite Things” a Christmas song? I never got that.

My favorite things about Christmas? I guess I really, really love picking out the ‘perfect’ gift and watching someone’s expression as they open it. I’m always hoping to see the “WOW” kind of expression, and I guess I get kinda hard on myself if they didn’t like it quite as much as I hoped they liked it. I especially love watching my kids open their gifts, although at their age they unwrap, freak out over it for a minute or two, then it’s on to the next gift!

I am not religious, but I LOVE Christmas. For me, it’s about the family and the food and the ritual of the whole thing. Every Christmas Eve, we get together for dinner with my mom’s side of the family. Christmas morning, my parents and brother and I wake up around 9, go through the stockings while eating breakfast, then settle in to open gifts around the tree, and finally make it up to shower and get ready for the day around noon. Then we head out first to see my dad’s side of the family at his sister’s house, then over to see my mom’s side of the family at her sister’s house. We do this every year (save one year we tried to ease travel by seeing one side of the family on the 24th and one on 25th, but decided we didn’t like it that way). It involved nearly three hours in the car spread out throughout the day, but we all do it happily and I hope I never have to give that up.

Oh, and the cookies. I love the cookies… I’ll be baking all weekend!

My favorite thing is decorating with a mixture of the old an the new, hosting holiday get-togethers and buying presents. I don’t even care if anyone gets me anything these days. I just enjoy coming up with gifts that people will appreciate and will actually use.

My favorite thing about this year is my tree. I made garland out of wine corks and decorated with bunches of sparkly red grapes and gold and red ornaments. It is beautiful (to me).

    Love love love that picture!

My most favorite thing about the decorations during this seasson: a lit tree in a dark room. When I get up in the mornings, the first thing I do is turn the tree lights on. And in the evenings, we sit around with all the lights off except the tree.

I love watching “A Christmas Story” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. My Mom and I also used to watch “Miracle on 34th Street” every year.

I also love baking for my friends and family and shopping for the perfect gift. I don’t know why, but at Christmas time I don’t mind the crowded malls and insane lines. Any other time of the year those things would make me crazy, but at Christmas I almost look forward to it.

Very cool picture! I recently found your blog after participating in the Friday’s Feast meme. One of the other participants had you on their blogroll and I loved your name, so I decided to come and check you out. :)

  12. Heather Says:

I love the time with family, even though we usually end up fighting at least a little bit; I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

  13. Simba's Mom Says:

I love that photo! Christmas to me is family too. And the Grinch. And my mom’s sugar cookies.

  14. Julie Barnard Says:

I’m with you, sister!! The gingerbread coffeemate rocks my world! I’ve had to start buying them 2 at a time. And, of course, the pumpkin spice lattes at Starbucks.

  15. NG Says:

My husband’s comment on this photo: “Looks like the dog is peeing on the couch back there.” Such Christmas spirit!

  16. Michelle Says:

One of my favorite things about Christmas is time. For some reason, some how time seems to slow down for the 48 hours of December 24th and 25th. I like being slow, watching twinkle lights and the smell of pine and good cooking in the kitchen!

  17. Regina Clare Jane Says:

It’s the only time of year when we eat mincemeat pie and drink egg nog… ooh, egg nog… 2 of my fav things about this time of year.
