I’m going to be dropping cards in the mail on 12/24 - I can feel it.
Category: I stress, therefore I blog, Motherhood |

Dude. Do you know what day it is? It’s December 15th. Do you know what that means? TEN DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS. That kinda just hit me this morning when I was thinking about how Eragon comes out today and I’m only halfway through the book. I was all, “Man…where did the week go?” And then I was like, “SHIT. SHITSHITSHITSHITSHIT.” Because, you know, ten days.

I have yet to even get started on my family newsletter. I have to do it because every year my Dad’s sisters tell me how much they love it and I don’t want to lose my rep as World’s Funniest Christmas Newsletter Writer. I haven’t even started on the rest of my cards. Speaking of that - do you want a card? Email me your address to misszootATgmailDOTcom and I’ll send you one. If I sent you one last year you still may want to give me your address because I believe my dog at last year’s list. SERIOUSLY. We do have a dog that eats paper and I seem to recall the Christmas Address List 2005 showing up in a pile of poop some time around New Year’s.

Don’t expect the cards before February though, I’m just saying…

(And if you want to send ME a card? Find my address here.)

I also have done about ZERO of my Christmas shopping. The one person I was done with was my brother because I went to visit him last weekend and wanted to bring gifts. BUT - since I’ve come home I thought of a few more little things I want to mail him. I’M MAKING MY LIFE HARDER. MrZ? Well, I bought him (and me!) something totally awesome, but since it won’t be here until February, it doesn’t really count as a Christmas gift.

(And hell if I’m keeping the surprise that long. I told him five seconds after I bought it.)

I have bought a few things for LilZ: underwear, toothpaste, deodorant, and a Barney DVD he’s been begging me for. (Come on, he reads my blog, I have to pull his chain a bit.) But seriously? I was going to buy all of his crap this weekend because he’d be with his Dad. BUT - we ended up trading because hid Dad gets Christmas this year, so he’s getting next weekend. So, I either wait and do it the weekend before Christmas and end up being in the papers under the headline: “CRAZY WOMAN TAKES POTTERY BARN HOSTAGE” or I try to get it done this weekend. Which means I’ll be sacrificing time with him which I hate to do on my weekends.

(LilZ: Seriously, woman. I’m 11. I need my space. Go shopping. Bring me back dinner.)

My point? SO MUCH TO DO. Please tell me you are just as behind as I am. If you’re not? Please offer to do my shopping for me. Or mail my cards? Or rub my feet? (What? That needs to be done too.).

But seriously? The 9-year old girl inside of me is all, “OHMYGOD! 10 Days until Christmas! Yippee!” - so screw the 31-year old version of myself. She’s never caught up on anything. I’m totally going to enjoy the next 10 days, even if I do spend it stuck in the mall with crazy soccer moms.

I sent you a rather enthusiastic email with my address - Good luck with all your shopping. I’m in a similar boat.

  2. Lisa Says:

I’m right there with you. I do have *most* of my shopping done, but still need to buy for about 10 people and I have NO IDEA what to get them and there are still things I need to order/pick up for the kids. Yeah order. Like they will get here in time now!

I wrote out *most* of my cards and have been carrying them around with me for a week. I may get to the post office before January.

Usually this time of year work slows down and I can sneak out for a few hours of shopping or standing in line at the post office but this year I am so busy I dont have time to go to the bathroom on most days.

We have five christmas parties, a couple basketball games and practices and a bowling party all to cram into the next 10 days. And holy hell I havent wrapped a gosh darn thing. I havent bought wrapping paper either come to think of it. I guess I wont be sleeping until AFTER christmas!

Then the kids mentioned something about baking cookies? Are they smoking crack or what?

  3. Jenn Says:

Most of my shopping is done (except for my dad who doesn’t want anything, ever) but I’m knitting my mom a pair of knee high socks and oh my god, SO BEHIND. I am flipping out! My poor mom is going to be getting one knee high sock for Christmas!

I was just thinking the other day that Christmas isn’t so fun anymore when you’re grown up and have to do everything yourself and suddenly I understood why my mom was always on edge from Thanksgiving until December 24th.

  4. stacey Says:

yeah. i have made a list of what to buy. Even that isn’t finished. Everyone is getting a hug from me this year. That is it. I don’t think I can go shopping until Wed at the earliest. 2 days before I get on the plane. I really thrive on pressure. Crap….10 days???

  5. Piper Says:

Hey, I’ll help if I can. I guess I shouldn’t mention that I’ve been done forever. My cards were completely done before turkey day but I waited until the weekend after to mail everything out and I haven’t had to do anything at all to get ready in December except buy food and put up a tree? Hmmm. Didn’t think so….

  6. Nancy Says:

I’m right there with ya, but I’m about to give birth any day now, so we aren’t really doing Christmas this year. We planned on doing something just for the “kids” this year, but haven’t even started shopping for them yet.

  7. Aardvark Says:

Do you take NikkiZ shopping when you go? Scout is a master shopper. If you need help or company…let us know. Steve is always trying to get us out of the house so he can work in peace.

  8. Heather Says:

I had to finish everything early because I am leaving for Cabo tomorrow. I don’t mean to rub it in. Don’t go on vacation in the middle of the Christmas season. It is absolutely insane. Let’s not forget to mention I have a two year old.

  9. Jessie Says:

Yeah. I have none of my shopping done. I’m starting to freak out a bit.

  10. JoyLynn Says:

I’m in the same boat [we have a good portion of our shopping done, but not all of it, and the Christmas cards have yet to be printed with all their adorable Tyler goodness].

The saddest part? I’m not working, so I have all day, every day to be out shopping and printing and mailing, and basically making life much easier on myself. But, I don’t. I really do suck.

Want me to go shopping for you? I have to be out and about later today anyway. Just email me the wish list. :)

  11. Lessa Says:

Heh. I’m right there with ya. I don’t even get paid until wednesday - I only get paid once a month, always the 3rd wednesday of the month, which this month is only 5 (FIVE!) days before Christmas.

All I want for Christmas is a nice vacation in a padded cell. I’ll bloody well need it. *heh*

If you hear rumors of a raving Alaskan Woman holding local stores hostage and fighting over the last whateveritis the kids want - it’s me.

  12. Cheryl Says:

Hey, did you get the idea for MrZ’s present from How I Met Your Mother? That was a hilarious episode. I love it!

  13. Sonja Says:

I haven’t taken a picture or written a letter for The Infamous Christmas Mail. On the other hand, I haven’t gotten any cards yet either, which means that everybody and their mother is behind this year.
Well. At least the people who send me cards.
And instead of a gift for my husband, I have a list of ideas. Bet he’ll be excited to unwrap that!

  14. Steph Says:

I have not shopped for anyone at all. I have a feeling that I will be a last minute shopper. I just can’t think of anything interesting to buy anyone.

  15. Stephanie Says:

I’ve solved your card problem - just send these. (Do your comments take links again? I’m not sure… the warning’s gone, so I’m giving it a shot.) And since LilZ’s out of town Christmas weekend anyway, why don’t you just take advantage of all the sales that happen the day after for his shopping? (I know, that’s just mean making your kid wait until after Christmas for his presents… I’m just trying to help you procrastinate a bit more here.)

  16. Amy W Says:

Yup, totally with you except I also decided to start a graduate degree this week, I play in my town’s community band which has a concert this weekend, 4 Christmas parties in 3 days AND I have 2 kids under 3. Yea for me. Come join me for a drink when this is all over.

  17. Heather Says:

Haha. I’m so behind, too…but I have the excuse of abdominal surgery. At least, that’s what excuse I’m using, mmmk?

  18. Nancy Says:

My cards aren’t even here yet. I’m all “TRA LA LA LA LAAAA! I can’t DO my cards yet, so why worry?”

I’m saving the freak-out for when they actually arrive adn hoping the girls will help stuff envelopes.

  19. callistawolf Says:

I’ve found I can’t think about the shopping I’ve done as the shopping I haven’t done weighs heavily on my conscience. And FORGET christmas cards this year, omg. Are you kidding me?

Oh, and Kile and I aren’t doing presents for each other this year because we suck. Being poor bites.

  20. RA Says:

Oh my goodness, I LOVE THAT SHIRT. When my husband and I saw that episode - which was possibly the best one ever - I was like, “You and Scott (close friend) would totally do those… and I would be the slap bet commissioner!!!” I almost wanted them to do that so I could make myself a nametag or something. But nono, there’s a shirt!

P.S. I would totally do 10 slaps right now instead of 5 over the course of whenever.

  21. Leeny Says:

I shopped online for my daughter and her family. How great is that? Except that I’m still waiting on two gifts to come before Christmas! Hopefully! Hubby and I took off one day during the week to shop for his kids but we still have a handful of people to buy for. I wish I were a craftsy type person but I’m not that talented or creative. But I haven’t baked any cookies this year and I did want to but I don’t have the time. Oh, well, we just do what we can do, huh?

  22. Tiffani Says:

As a CRAZY soccer mom, I can tell you that I’m way more fun at the mall than a plain ol’ soccer mom. :-)

(My daughter played for the first time this year. And, no, I don’t drive a minivan.)

I just started doing my cards today; and shopping for daughter and hubby is nowhere near done. And nothing will get done tomorrow because my cousin and her twin boys, age 6, are coming up to bake cookies, make fudge and put together a gingerbread house, plus go to the Galaxy of Lights. ‘Tis the season!

    Ho, ho, ho!

  23. Shala Says:

omgosh I am SO far behind! This cannot be normal to be this far behind. I don’t even want to think about what I have to get done this weekend. Not to mention someone had to go and have a baby 6 days before Christmas…oh wait that was me. So my son’s birthday is on Tuesday and I have that to do as well! Ahhhh! Stress!

  24. Vali (penguin) Says:

hehehe. as a side note, i never noticed that category before…If I posted when I am stressed all my entries would be crap..but yours are funny so it doesn’t matter. lol..

  25. Michelle Says:

I just did it all today - and I mean almost all of it literally. We bought a tree - decorating it tomorrow.
Bought all but 4 last gifts - doing that tomorrow.
Finished my christmas cards (after 2 cocktails) so they might be a bit hard to read or incoherent but they are done and being mailed….tomorrrow.
Family christmas party Sunday and then just trying to survive the last week at work where things are insane).

Good luck you WILL get it all done and the 10 year old in you will have a blast doing it.

  26. Jamie Says:

I’m SO with you. I stayed up until almost 1 a.m. working on photo books for the family. I ordered photo cards but they haven’t arrived yet so I’ll probably mail ours late next week.

And shopping? I only started doing some serious shopping yesterday. I’ve got the stocking things covered, though. I think I enjoy filling the stocking more than getting the big stuff!

Good luck! I feel your pain. And a newsletter? Hey, just get them to read your blog! ;)

  27. Anne Glamore Says:

Am just as behind. The muse has not hit; Xmas newsletter not drafted tho many funny things happened this yr. May just send card with pix and website address.

Still freaking because Finn (Z’s age) has a damn b;day the 22d, then Xmas. Holy Hell!

Must go swig eggnog then wrap.

    Good luck!
