Am I a stalker or a loser? You decide.

I had to go to Target (had to go…had…) on my lunch break to get some prescription filled for NikkiZ. I have no idea what it was because at this point, I’m so ready for my family to be well again, that I just don’t care. Anthrax? Really? For congestion? Hmmm. Okay. While I was there I grabbed the latest issue of Vogue with Angelina on the cover.

Now, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I have loved Angelina Jolie since I first saw Foxfire back in college. MrZ can attest to that because when we first had the “If you had a list of 5 people you could cheat on me with…who would it be?” conversation, I had her at the top of my list. And maybe in spot number 5 too, just for good measure. I LUV HER.

So, I bought the magazine and ignored the ninety million advertisements (What’s up with that, Vogue?) and went straight for the article. It was so fascinating, reading how she described the beginning of her and Brad’s relationship. And motherhood. And acting. And everything else. I swear, I don’t know what it is but I would hang on her every word if she was simply reading the ingredients on a candybar. I just find her fascinating.

Anyway – my point is – are you like that about any celebrities? Do you find yourself mesmerized by anyone in the media spotlight? I would love to know I’m not the only one buying stupid magazines just to read a three-page article embedded in the fashion spreads.

I have a crush on Angelina Jolie too. I want to look just like her when I grow up. Never mind, I’m 35. Guess I’ll be buying the Vogue too.

  2. Stephanie says:

I totally love Angelina, too! Some people say she’s too odd or phony or overrated or whatever, but I still find her absolutely mesmerizing.

The other odd celebrity fascination I have is with the Olsen twins. I think it’s because we all saw them from practically the second they were born or something, but whatever it is, I’m always drawn to picking up any magazine they’re on the cover of just to see what’s new with them. I certainly wouldn’t have them on a “cheat list” though… it’s more like myspace-stalking former classmates. :-)

  3. Blythe says:

I used to feel that way about Gwyneth, but I find that I may have moved on to Natalie Portman. Am I becoming a dirty old (wo)man who only likes young ladies? Who is to say? Incidentally, I have an aversion to Angelina that I believe developed sometime during the BillyBob/blood-in-a-vial period. For some reason, no amount of humanitarian work can erase it from my memory.

I wonder if this falls into the ‘two kinds of people in the world’ thing – you’re either a Gwyneth person or an Angie person? Though apparently Brad was both, with a bit of Jennifer thrown in.

  4. Sarah says:

    No, and I think you’re a freak.

(Which means I’m not yet ready to admit to my obsession over all things Flavor Flav.)

  5. Jessie says:

Um, Johnny Depp. Totally. I think if I ever met him I wouldn’t be able to speak.

  6. Lisa says:

I’m with you on the Angelina thing. I just adore everything about her. I would switch teams for her. And she just becomes more beautiful and interesting each year.

Brad isnt too shabby either, but if I had to choose, I’d take Angie.

I am also obsessed with Jason Morgan and Carly Corinthos from General Hospital. Not the people who play them but the characters….

  7. RA says:

I love Reese Witherspoon and I stop at any channel that mentions her out of some subconscious tic. I am still not over the fact that she and Ryan are breaking up. I just really wanted them to defy the odds, but you know that I am totally on her side. I would totally buy a magazine just to read an article about her.

  8. Sarah says:

I have to agree with Blythe that Angelina creeps me out–sorry Miss Z! But I LUV Jennifer Garner and was completely obsessed with Alias. I luv her enough not only to buy a magazine that she is featured in, but also to pay to see some of her questionable movies. I need help!

  9. jessica says:

I hate admitting this, but Britney. I lurve her. But not “With K-Fed Brit” becuase um, EWWW, but pre and Post K-fed. that whole K-fed fiasco really had me questioning my lurve for her. Thankfully I can go back to worshipping her from afar. Oh, and during the 80′s it was totally Cyndi Lauper. I was liek thisclose one to shaving a checkboard on the side of my head…luckily, since I was ten at the time, my mother got to veto that idea…I have however had pink streaks put in my hair a few times and it’s all thanks to Cyndi.

  10. Casey says:

Angelina is hot! I love her too.

  11. Janet says:

    Depp. Rickman. Plant. oh my!

  12. cagey says:

I have a Girl Crush on Angelina Jolie, too – probably only since Hackers, though.

In general, I am obsessed with celebrities, but primarily for snarking purposes. The ones that I really get rabid about actually reading/watching interviews are Madonna, Kate Winslet, Dolly Parton, Gwyneth Paltrow, Colin Firth, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, and Hugh Grant. I don’t necessarily rush out to see their movies or buy their music, but I think they are interesting in real life.

  13. Sarah says:

Ah yes, I am not really a stalker per say but I did just buy the latest People Issue which features the best of 06 and who is on the front!?! Brangelina. I can’t stand Brad Pitt so, unfortunately I don’t like Angelina for that either. I used to buy a lot of those trash mags but for the past couple years I have held on to my cash and only splurge 3-4 times a year. Amazingly, I know longer “stalk” any celebrity.

  14. Wacky Mommy says:

Yeah I just blogged about Angelina today. I think she’s hip.

  15. ben says:

I may have had a few of those crushes, over the year. (that’s what it is, right? “obsession” sounds so much like what the court-appointed shrink would put in my file)

My EARLIEST would be probably Farrah Fawcett (I very much wanted the T-shirt, but it was banned at school, so I had the poster) and Loni Anderson. I used to have newspaper clippings saying things like “Wednesday; Repeat – the Angels go undercover as garbage collectors to solve a complicated series of robberies”

    Anybody have a musician crush?

  16. Michelle says:

I have a severe aversion to Angelina. Can’t really explain it, I just…no. I also have an aversion to Gwyneth Paltrow, but that might be because she seems snobby and hypocritical and says a lot of incredibly stupid things – and I do try to give her the benefit of the doubt, as maybe she is misquoted or her coments are taken out of context, but it just happens to her in particular SO OFTEN.

I’ve never really seen what all the fuss was about in regrads to Brad Pitt, either. I can list so many men that I find far sexier, but everyone else is always “Oooh, Brad, yum.” Guck.

Give me Johnny Depp and Sean Biggerstaff, please and thanks. :D

  17. Michelle says:

Oh yeah! And Kate Winslet! Shame on me, she’s always top of the list.

Musician crush – John Rzeznick of the Goo Goo Dolls.

  18. Adam says:

Jennifer Anniston, Jessica Biel, Julia Stiles, and Katie Holmes.

Now that that’s out of the way – the smart thing to do would have been to get at the end of the longest, slowest-moving line while you read the article. Then you could have put it back once you got up to the register.

  19. Bunny says:

Don’t forget to get some Kleenex while you’re at Target!

  20. Lisa says:

Drew Barrymore. I can’t explain it. Ever since high school, anything I see about her I have to look/read. (I don’t make a point to hunt out stuff about her but if there’s a movie or article, I find a way to see it) She’s my age – maybe it’s just that I’ve enjoyed watching her grow up too? What must it be like to be her? I dunno

  21. andi says:

i am almost ashamed to say that i was that way about gwen stefani…until the damn herd of harashuku girls joined her and she lost her freaking mind…you know, back when she was “cool”…

  22. Gwen says:

I used to be like that about Brad Pitt until he started dating “her.” Sorry, Zoot.

  23. coffee slut says:

Angelina and Drew Barrymore …I could totally switch to the “other side” for either of them!

  24. kimblahg says:

I am about Angelina. And Justin Timberlake- don’t know why because I wasn’t a teenager when he was a boy bander and never liked him until the last two years. Now- wowzer. I get most of my celeb gossip online now instead of the tabloids because they seem outdated by the time they come out!

  25. Aardvark says:

I like the current Angelina soooo much more than the Angelina that wore a vial of Billy Bob’s blood around her neck. That was to much for me.

  26. angie says:

Ew….I can not stand to see or hear about Angelina. I still sorta like Brad, but not much. Their baby is a beauty, though.

I haven’t had a girl-crush in a while..but my boy crushes come and go..with the biggest and longest being Gary Sinise. Can’t explain it, but it’s at least, if not more than 12 years running now…

  27. Andy says:

I’m officially celebrity ignorant. I don’t know names or movies or any of that, but I did have to giggle when I saw your Foxfire link. I was an extra in that movie! I was a “giggling girl” in a bathroom scene that got cut. I also yelled “you go girl” out a bus window, but it’s shot from so far away that you can hardly tell. All my scenes were in the high school. That’s my ever-so-small claim to fame and I had to share.

  28. Michelle says:

I am a closet Angelina fan too and also *dear god save me from admitting this out loud on a well read blog* a bon jovi fanatic as well. Not just his music but his life. I could be a stalker if I lived closer. Kidding….no….really.

  29. angela says:

I’m pretty dumb about celebrities too. I don’t really have any favorites or anyone that I follow, although Andy’s story about being an extra sounds pretty cool. So maybe Andy is my new favorite celebrity. Ha!

  30. stacey says:

oh yes and more than one people!! Harry Connick Jr, Matthew McC. ( I can never spell his last name no matter what) George Clooney. I love Brad and Orlando as well….Angela ROCKS!! I am hoping for a spotting down here in NOLA….Brad is filming a movie down here in Jan and Feb.

  31. Steph says:

I am on a huge Leonardo DiCaprio kick after seeing “The Departed.”

I also just love Kate Winslet. And no, not because of the whole Titanic connection. I have always just thought that she was well-spoken, grounded, and one of the most talented actresses working today.

I tried not to like Angelina but then she totes around those cute little children who all look so happy and I just couldn’t dislike her.

But basically I am celeb obsessed…. but only with those who I feel are talented. I am so over reading about Paris, Lindsey and Nicole. I could care less about them and Britney may be added to that list quickly if she doesn’t do anything productive soon. Like putting out an album….or even putting underwear on and raising her children, I would settle for that.

  32. Jem says:

    Umm, Motley Crue for me…

Also, old Britney. I used to hang onto her every word. I still do I spose, but now its in the same way I hang onto Lindsay Lohan’s every word.

    Stay adequite!

  33. Randi Morse says:

Definitely, DEFINITELY an Angelina fan. EVERYONE at my work knows that I’d jump into the sack with her at the first chance…seriously!

My big thing, though, is that both she AND Brad seem like awesome people…the type of people you could just walk up to and say “hi..” and they’d say “hi” back. They had their first interview after Shiloh was born and they said “Hi, I’m Angie…and I’m Brad”..like they were normal people. I’d just love to be her friend.

I’d also like to be friends with Kate Winslet (she’s such an amazing person…seems super nice) and Nora Roberts….and Hugh Jackman! He seems SO sweet and he’s so super hot…

Oh yeah, and I’d like to be friends with the best celebrity of all…ZOOT LOL

  34. Frema says:

Brad is cute and Angelina is gorgeous, but I don’t care for either one of them.

I LOVE Kiefer Sutherland. LOVE. And Howie Mandel, but only as he appears on Deal or No Deal. I like to pretend he didn’t exist before then because seriously, Bobby’s World. Oh no.

  35. Mary says:

Bobby’s World is the best show of all time. Or so I remember it to be at least. No dissing of Bobby’s World.

  36. nila says:

I’m totally fascinated by the Brangelina family. The whole family. Today I found myself staring at a picture of their baby Shirloh. She’s so beautiful. I ‘ve always liked Angelina and am so interested in her little family. I sound so stalkerish. I love all things celebrity, but mostly Brangelina.

  37. NIKKI _ TV Producer says:

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
