Tradition

One of my favorite Christmas traditions in MrZ’s family involves his Dad making scavenger hunts for the kids’ big gift every year. It’s something that MrZ loves so much, he relished the chance to continue the tradition with LilZ once we got married. Every Christmas Eve, MrZ stays up late writing and hiding clues for LilZ to hunt for his big gift the next day. This year, since we won’t do Christmas with LilZ until Saturday, it was his MrZ’s Dad who was up late writing and hiding clues for the “kids” (ages 17 to 31, probably not quite “kids”). I was surprised Christmas morning to find out that I had a scavenger hunt too! I was soooo excited I might have squealed a little bit. Yes, I’m 12.

MrZ documented my first scavenger hunt, but since I’m still in my pajamas and unshowered, I decided to put them in a collage. Here are the clues I had to decipher:

1) “What a proud couple! Hope their presence doesn’t interfere with your Sunday meal!”
– It was behind a picture of MrZ’s parents in the dining room. I found it in like two second because I’m AWESOME.

2) “You’ll find me when you visit for a non-caloric content cola beverage”
– With the diet cokes, of course! Although I first looked in the fridge but they were actually in the pantry.

3) “I’m used for many things but guests usually visit me when the come and before they leave.”
– The coat closet, of course!

4) “In the family financial nerve center, you might find what you are looking for. Face the library wall and find the item in question.”
– In the office by the bookshelves! I got a stand up easel frame and it totally rocked.

That idea is SO cool. I’m totally stealing it.

What a cool tradition! I kind of want to steal it when I have a family!

Love the pj’s, I have the same ones (a xmas present from a friend!).

How fun! We’ve done that for Easter. Instead of an egg hunt, you hunt for your whole easter basket using pastel colored cards with bunny ears and cotton ball tails on them, and the clues printed on the insides.

    Merry Christmas!

How much freakin’ fun would that be!? I would totally love to steal this idea but I don’t know if I’m creative enough to come up with the clues.

That is a really cute idea. How fun! :)

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
