My dearest flickr,
I love you so much, you know that, right? And it pains me to see you trash-talked. I have no idea why changing a username makes so many people upset. I was very excited when it was announced that you were now part of Yahoo! - not because I particularly like Yahoo! - but because I knew that would mean be big things for you. Multiple languages! How wonderful will it be for people all over the globe to fall for you like I have?
(But I’m you’re only true love, right?)
Why are people acting like it’s so difficult to find an ID? I did exactly what Heather suggested and just used my old login combined with _flickr. So now, my login is misszoot_flickr. It’s not hard! And it incorporates your name in it - proving my love for you! Why must everyone act so childish and hurt you so?
I want you to know that people who say things like, “Is there anyway we can get our money back? I only signed up because I could use my e-mail address and not yahoo,” don’t deserve you anyway. They never loved you like I do, and they never will. You should be happy to see them go, don’t be scorned by their words. Just remember, for every Jackas who says “I’m outta here on March 14. Bye bye FLICKR” - there will be 200 more who will love you with all of their hearts. Just because we’re not in the forums arguing with these morons, it doesn’t mean we’re not out here.
I gifted FOUR subscriptions to your service for Christmas. FOUR. That is how much I love you, dear Flickr. I subscribe to the Flickr Blog feeds and I sob over my non-existent “Explored” list. I use the Flickr toys and I hack the badges. I spend hours drooling over contributions from your members and I pimp you out to everyone I know. I LOVE YOU!
In the next several weeks as the bitching gets louder and more childish, please remember there are many of us out here, proudly labeling ourselves “Flickr Whores” because we love you.
Your one and only,
misszoot_flickr

I wanna be a Flickr Whore! (I so hope my mom doesn’t see this!!)
Well, sometimes, it is just hard to deal with change. I don’t use flickr a lot, but I was proud of being “old skool” and now I’m just one of the masses. And … I personally hate Yahoo! and the list of reasons for that is too long for a comment.
Will it make me stop using flickr? Not for now.
But … I’m damn well making sure I have backups for every photo stored and linked there because I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before the service goes to hell.
I barely noticed the change. I didn’t even have to change my user name. I just merged and it was done. No big. I love flickr with all my heart, too. I just don’t get the big deal.
I am proud to be a flickr whore, even if I’m not officially in that group. All of my pictures suck because my camera sucks, but that doesn’t stop me from uploading photo after photo!
Flickr on, baby!!
Although I don’t particulary have a love obsession with Yyahoo, I have used it since the very beginning - as I didn’t want to go through the trouble of changing email addresses. Once Gmail came out and Yahoo upped their storage capacity, I was quite happy. I use Gmail for my bloggy things, and Yahoo for my personal things. To switch over to Yahoo is merely blending the bloggy stuff with the personal stuff…no big deal at all. In fact, it would probably be much easier.
I truthfully didn’t know there was trash-talk going on, but the way I see it is they were going to compalin about something anyway. Beware of those fair-weather friends!
i don’t know how flickr works, but i do like to look at everyone’s pictures.
i was thinking about figuring the flickr thing out, but you know, it could be god-knows-how-long before i actually look into it.
p.s.
can i steal your harry potter countdown thing-thing?
pretty please?
Amen, sister.
I’d merged my flickr with Yahoo ages ago (we have sbc yahoo dsl and I’d had a yahoo id for ages…interestingly enough, its the same id as my flickr one so no learning curve here!). So for me, its no big deal. But even if it was, flickr would be worth it because flickr is god.
amen zoot! what would life be like without flickr?
i’m with you! i just discovered FLICKR and i don’t know how i lived without it! god bless the inventor!
I wanna be a flickr whore ..Is that ok? I know I’m your Mom etc. but I love flickr too. We communicate with flickr….We have to be flickr whores………………Count me in….
Mom
What irks me about it is that I actually have 3 flickr accounts. One that the vast majority of my photos live in, one that I got accidentally with my yahoo account, and one that I use to store all my blog crap in. I can’t merge either one of them with my real Yahoo ID, so I had to get a new damn Yahoo ID for my main flickr account. Since I can’t merge my backup Flickr account with the one I got by mistake, now I’m going to shuffle what’s in the account around and it’s going to be a giant pain.
Plus, I hate that one giant corporation bought Fickr and now they’re making us conform. Sitck it to the man!
Thanks, Zoot
I love Flickr, and since I already have Yahoo! id’s, it was really easy to switch over. Painless, really. I hardly noticed it.
Being a (relative) noob to Flickr (only 18 months), I didn’t pay this much mind, but was amazed at the whining going on.
This really seems to me to be about “status” of being “Old School” more than anything else. It is not like these people have been upset about all the work and improvements that have gone on, but somehow despite that, Yahoo! is “so evil” and all the false claims about what will happen to them once they have a Yahoo! ID is simply amazing.
Time to just get over it already. Flickr is awesome, they know it… and in the end they have to decide if they want to use the awesomeness that is Flickr, or some poor imitation just because of some faux outrage about how they are not “special” any more.
