Makeout Music (Or an entry my family might want to skip)
Category: Movies, Music and More | 27 Comments »

Since Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, the conversation on the radio this morning was Makeout Music. After listening to the calls, I decided that people were mixing up general Love Songs with good Makeout Music. I mean, Love Songs like “At Last” by Etta James are great to play while you walk down the aisle of your wedding (which I did) but not necessarily great to play while you’re getting your groove on. (I’m hip with the lingo, you know.) Then again, I realized that I seem to have an unusual selection of preferred Makeout Music. Most of the calls in were either in the Al Green category or the Power Ballad category. (We’re in Alabama – you know at least 20 people tried to call in to suggest “Heaven” by Warrant.) I prefer my makeout music to be sung BY a man ABOUT a girl. The sexier he makes the girl sound, the sexier I feel. So – without further ado – my preferred Makeout Music list.

(Alternately title: And MrZ Loves Me Anyway.)

“Wonderful Tonight” – Eric Clapton

A Classic. A theme to one of my high school dances. One of those songs that makes you look at your man and say, “Do you feel that way about me?” To which he’ll reply, “Are you drinking my beer?”

I feel wonderful because I see
The love light in your eyes.
And the wonder of it all
Is that you just don’t realize how much I love you.

“Round Here” – Counting Crows
The girl being described in this song may be a little crazy, but in that totally sexy way I’d like to be if I were a little crazy. (Ha!) More importantly, he’s describing her like he’s totally in love with her – even with the KRAZEE. That’s my kind of guy.

Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand
She said she’d like to meet a boy who looks like Elvis
And she walks along the edge of where the ocean meets the land
Just like she’s walking on a wire in the circus
She parks her car outside of my house
Takes her clothes off
Says she’s close to understanding Jesus
She knows she’s more than just a little misunderstood
She has trouble acting normal when she’s nervous

“Meet Virginia” – Train
I simply want to be the girl in this song. Either that or make out with her. I’m not sure which. Either way, she sounds totally HOTT.

She never compromises
Loves babies and surprises
Wears high heels when she exercises
Ain’t that beautiful?

“Tangled Up In Blue” – Bob Dylan
One of my favorite song ever. I especially love the Indigo Girls cover. Another song about a girl who may be a little trashy, a little crazy, but totally sexy. She seems to be the image of unforgettable in the songwriter’s eyes. Every girls wants to be unforgettable. (Sidenote – I used to hang out in AOL chatrooms back in the day as “TangledUpInBlue” – I’m such a dork.)

She was workin’ in a topless place
And I stopped in for a beer,
I just kept lookin’ at the side of her face
In the spotlight so clear.
And later on as the crowd thinned out
I’s just about to do the same,
She was standing there in back of my chair
Said to me, “Don’t I know your name?”
I muttered somethin’ underneath my breath,
She studied the lines on my face.
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe,

“Crash” – Dave Matthews Band
I think this song is so sexy, I chose it as the first song MrZ and I danced to at our Wedding. This song actually makes me feel sexy, which is the best quality of a makeout song. I also find Dave Matthews’ sexy. And his voice is sexy. You don’t want to be with me when this song comes on because I sing along with it in my “I’m Sultry and Sexy” voice and stance. Which is neither Sultry or Sexy.

You wear nothing but you
Wear it so well
Tied up and twisted
The way Id like to be
For you, for me, come crash
Into me

“Rock Your Body” – Justin Timberlake
This song is awesome if only for the “Better have you naked by the end of this song” line repeated in it. This is one of those songs that make me want to go clubbing. (Or is it “clubbin’”?) This song is probably my favorite sexy makeout song ever.

I don’t mean no harm
Just wanna rock you girl
Make a move, but be calm
Let’s go, let’s give it up girl
See it appears to me
You like the way I move
I’ll tell you what I’m gonna do
Pull you close and share my groove

So – What are your favorite Sexy/Makeout/Love songs? If we were going to make a Makeout Playlist – what would you insist on putting on it?

Ah, tangeld up in Blue is one of my ALL TIME favorite songs, EVAH.

I would have to add, even though I don’t like them!, DMB – Crash into Me – I made out with this boy I lurved for ages to that for an entire night. My lips were soo chapped, but it was certainly worth it. Also Bob Segar’s Night Moves – for similar, but much more X-rated, reasons.

  3. Mir Says:

“When You Say Nothing At All” by Alison Krauss.

  4. Janet Says:

    “Dreaming In Metaphors” – Seal

“Ten Years Gone” – Led Zeppelin

Changes fill my time – baby, that’s alright with me
In the midst I think of you and how it used to be

    “Santa Monica” – Everclear

I am still dreaming of your face
Hungry and hollow for all the things you took away

    Hmmm…sounds kinda longing ;-)

Awesome choices there, Zoot. :) Wonderful Tonight was the theme of one of my high school dances too. ;) We danced to “The Way You Look Tonight” by Tony Bennett at our wedding, very very classy and romantic but like you say, not exactly a makeout song. My backup choice IS a makeout song though, it was “Angel Eyes” from the Jeff Healy Band:
    “Don’t anyone wake me,
    if it’s just a dream
    ‘Cause she’s the best thing,
    that’s ever happened to me
All you fellows, you can look all you like,
but this girl, you see, she’s leavin’ here with me tonight”

Then there’s songs that are just plain sex-ay… like “Sexy Back” by JT. :) I have that assigned to Kile on my cellphone so I hear it everytime he calls. hee!

  10. Diana Says:

    My favs:

Hurt So Good – John Mellancamp

“Sink your teeth right through my bones, baby
Lets see what we can do
Come on and make it a
    Hurt so good
Come on baby make it hurt so good
Sometimes love dont feel like it should
You make it hurt so good”

Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy – Big & Rich

“Out on some back country road.
    We where flying high
Fining, whine, having ourselves a big and rich time
And I was going, just about as far as she’d let me go.
    But her evaluation
    of my cowboy reputation
    Had me begging for salvation
    all night long
So I took her out giggin frogs
Introduced her to my old bird dog
And sang her every Wilie Nelson song I could think of
    ….And we made love”

No One Like You – Scorpions

“Girl, there are really no words strong enough
To describe all my longing for love
I don’t want my feelings restrained
Ooh, babe, I just need you like never before
Just imagine you’d come through this door
You’d take all my sorrow away
    There’s no one like you
I can’t wait for the nights with you
I imagine the things we’ll do
I just wanna be loved by you”

    Too Close – Next

    “Baby us dancing so close
    Aint a good idea
Cuz imma want you now and here
The way that you shake it on me
Makes me want you so bad sexually”

    Dear God am I a freak…

  11. callistawolf Says:

Oooh, Norah Jones… TOTALLY. And John Mayer does it for me too. ;)

  12. Heather Says:

New favorite of the last couple of years

    Mike Doughty
    Joyful and Triumphant
    …let’s go make out
    up in the balcony
    your business dress
    so business like and I’m
    dropping your blouse
    over the chairback

  13. jomama Says:

I love that Justin Timberlake song, but the “Gotta have you naked” part makes me think of the Super Bowl and chuckle everytime I hear it.

I wish I had my ipod in front of me, but here are some off the top of my head:

Lost Without You by Robin Thicke (just about anything by him, actually)
    Superheroes by Esthero
    Anytime, Anyplace by Janet Jackson
That’s the Way Love Goes by Janet Jackson
He Loves Me by Jill Scott
    Secrets by Maroon 5

  14. michelle/weaker vessel Says:

I actually wrote a drunken blog post about this topic a few months ago and then promptly deleted it after I sobered up. I don’t think I used the euphemism “Making out,” if you get my drift.

Anyway, I like grunge-y, metal-y, intense stuff, like Queens of the Stone Age, Screaming Trees, Soundgarden’s “Badmotorfinger,” Danzig’s “Danzig 1,” Mad Season’s “Above,” and Mark Lanegan’s “Bubblegum.” My husband is totally unromantic, so all of that sweet, flowers-and-moonlight stuff is out. Also, sadly, I think he would be totally rendered unable to perform if I tried to put on anything by my beloved Justin Timberlake.

  15. Anne Glamore Says:

I think the whole Maroon 5 cd is pretty hot. And on a totally different note, remember “Just the 2 of Us?” (we can make it if we try?)

    Goofy, but sweet.

  16. Kait Says:

My favorite makeout song is definitely Deep Inside of You by Third Eye Blind. Seriously? Best song ever, with lyrics like:

Fall breeze blows outside I dont bring stride
My thoughts are warm and they go deep inside of you…
    And I never felt alone
    Alright alone alone
    Till I met you
    Friends say I’ve changed
I don’t listen cause I live to be
    Deep inside of you
Slide of her dress shouts in darkness
    I’m so alive I’m
    Deep inside of you…

    Also, The Scientist by Coldplay

“Come up to meet you, tell you I’m sorry
You don’t know how lovely you are

    I had to find you
    Tell you I need you
Tell you I set you apart

    Tell me your secrets
    And ask me your questions
Oh let’s go back to the start”

  17. junkie Says:

“justify my love”, of course. :)

  18. Ang Says:

    Night Moves, Bob Segar

On the Road Again, Bob Segar

Loosen up My Buttons, PussyCat Dolls

Never EVER “Eye of the Tiger” (that came on one time *ahem* during…. kinda a mood killer)

  19. margalit Says:

Mine is, has always been, and will always be, Stairway to Heaven by Led Zepplin.

I won’t explain why, but take it from me, it works!

  20. ProudMary Says:

I LOVE Tangled up in Blue, and the Indigo Girls did a fine cover of it too!

I also like Lady in Red by Chris DeBurgh.

Also anything by Eric Clapton and the Jeff Healey Band. Or Trace Atkins. (Hot Mama rocks!)

OK, I’m posting this before you think I’m hokey.

    –Mary

    I go for the subtle.

“Why don’t we get drunk (and screw)” has a special place in my heart. And yes, it was played at our wedding. My shiny new father in law and all his buddies from Alcoholics Anonymous? Not amused.

  27. Hannah Says:

I would say anything by Norah Jones, probably Barry White! i love the song Lets stay together by Al Green but i don’t really know it that’s a make out song though,

A romantic one rather than a make out song is Finally found by the Honeyz (a few hit wonder from the UK). The lyrics go

“I finally found what i was looking for
and now i know i’m going to love you more
hold me tight coz it’s always been you,
to think that you were always there
to be my friend and wipe away my tears
hold me tight cos it’s always been you”

another romantic one is More Than Words by Extreme (i think – i don’t think i was even born when it came out lol )
