I have to leave for work in 12 minutes. Actually, I take LilZ to school first, then I go to work. I slept late this morning so it has been non-stop frenzy to get everything done. And by “everything” I mean “watch last night’s episode of Friday Night Lights.” Which I did. And it was awesome. I am so glad the TV Goddess turned me on to it. It just feels so real when I watch it. And I am totally in love with Mrs. Taylor. I want to be her when I grow up. Or at least have her rockin’ body.
Anyway - where was I?
So - we’ve been rushed this morning because I slept late and I prioritize watching my favorite TV shows over showering. What can I say? I know how to set realistic goals for myself. I’m not an overachiever, that’s for sure.
Yet, with all of the frenzy I still can never get LilZ to switch gears from something other than Stoner Slow. He’s always just chilled out and moving at a snail’s pace. Even when I wake him up screaming, “Get Up! We’re all running late! Eat breakfast! Take out the Recycling! Shower! NOW! NOW! NOW!” He still takes his sweet time and pauses periodically to tell me something that never qualifies as urgent. We still leave on time, of course, but how is it that he’s unable to speed up for anything? Is it a teenage thing? Do they not have a faster setting than “Sleepy”? Would he speed up if I threatened to take away his phone privileges? Or worse - his computer? Probably not. I don’t think he’s capable of it.
So. Back to cracking the whip. To no avail, of course.

Hee, “Stoner Slow.” That’s the mister whenever we have to leave at a certain time. So I don’t think it’s a teenage thing, unfortunately.
There is actually a biological reason teens have trouble getting up early and gettin’ it in gear, which is why some schools are starting later. http://www.kidshealth.org/teen/your_body/take_care/how_much_sleep.html
Stoner Slow…that is my 6 year old. Wonder if this means it will get worse as he morphs into a teen?
Lord NO! My son moved at the speed of light his whole life! While this is great when you’re running late, or when he’s playing hockey or soccer, not so great when you’re doing schoolwork, or homework or chores!!
Mine does the same thing, and he’s not even a teenager! Drives me nuts because I’m the sort that wants to hurry and I have to be on time, otherwise I start stressing the heck out. This is where Harry and I have our biggest friction, as I’m barking at him to get moving in the morning.
Ha! This one made me laugh. Probably because I just got home from the same scene of a morning. My daughter does not seem to understand “hurry up”. And I have found that she lays in bed in the morning longer and longer each day. Ahhhh, the joys of kids getting older. I think it is all of them! Mine is a pre-teen, but it’s already starting! :
I was up late last night simply for the fact that I seem to be incapable of writing a short recap of Jericho. Or any show, for that matter.
Ha! My husband is the same way when I wake him up after my shower in the morning. He has to “gradually” (his word; my word would be “painfully slowly”) wake up, first sitting up in bed, then FINALLY getting out of bed an eternity later only to stumble around like a zombie. And yet, this is less irritating to me than having him wake up with an alarm, which would only result in me yelling at him to turn the damn alarm off already because despite the fact that the alarm is ear-piercingly loud, it does not wake him up. (holy run-on sentence, batman!)
I just want to say that I, too, am in love with Mrs. Taylor and would like to be her. r at least have her hair.
how is it that he’s unable to speed up for anything? Is it a teenage thing?
Um yeah, my husband turns 28 today… he is STILL that slow!!
Dude. Story of my life. My son is the same age as yours, and sometimes when I read your posts, I feel like I could have written them!
I also want to be Mrs. Taylor, because she is awesome, but also because I would then have such a cool husband and family. I heart this show so much. I hope it’s renewed. Soon.
