Damn, I’m tired. I normally wake up between 4 and 4:30 on my own without the assistance of an alarm. This morning, on the other hand, I woke up at 5:15 with MrZ’s alarm. And I still feel like I could have slept for another 12 hours or so.
When I picked up NikkiZ, she saw me at the door and looked scared. Actually - terrified may be a better choice of words. She tried to get up from the table and run to me and looked as though if she didn’t move fast enough, I may disappear. When I got to her, she immediately started showing me what she was coloring. She wasn’t super-full of affection like I hoped, but as I pumped her full of animal crackers on the way home, her love for me grew to enormous depths. By the time she went to bed last night? All was normal again with her clinging to me like she did before. It’s good to be home.
There are several things I missed while I was gone that I’m so glad to have back. I’m leaving family off the list because (a) Duh, of course I missed them and (b) I’m scared you may be disturbed when you see where they fell on the list of things I missed.
- TiVo. GRRRR. Watching TV without the ability to pause is the closest thing I’ve come to in terms of torture in my life. How do you people live without the ability to pee whenever you want?
- Speaking of peeing, I miss my toilet paper. I don’t know which is worse, single-ply hotel toilet paper or single-ply convention center toilet paper. I (heart) two-ply.
- My hazelnut coffee and my fat-free hazelnut creamer in my Harry Potter coffee mug. The hotel coffee was bad. I like my coffee doctored with my things and they had crappy coffee with only a few things to doctor it with.
- My bathtub. I soak in the tub at least a few nights a week, but for obvious reasons I avoided that at the hotel. I would have taken advantage of having a tub last night and soaked in it, but I was just SO DAMN TIRED. Maybe tonight.
- My bed. Thank you god for King-size pillowtops. Amen.
It’s good to be home.

Yay, you’re back! Yay, I’m first!
Oh nuh UH. You did not actually have to go in to work today, did you? That’s messed up! You should get to stay home at least a half-day for travel time. Isn’t that like a universal principle of justice or something?
(Yes, I guess freelancing for ten years has rendered me weak and soft and unable to meet the demands of the increasingly competitive global market, now that you mention it.)
Speaking from the “family” point of view….we are all glad you guys are home too!
When I’m away from home, that is my exactly list of things I miss…adding decent highspeed internet and the family stuff, of course.
Me and my husband spend many nights wondering how we ever lived our lives before tivo (although, we don’t actually have “tivo” we have dvr through dish network, but same thing, really.)
Honestly, how did we ever watch a tv show without having the ability to pause it EVERY SINGLE TIME one of our kids had a question or needed to “tell us something”?
Srsly.
Yes, Dorothy had it right all those years ago!
There’s no place like home!!
I’m confused. What is the obvious reason for not using a hotel bath tub? Cuz its dirty? Because I have to tell you that I would be way more likely to take a bath in a hotel tub than in my own. I know how often I clean mine (or don’t clean mine, if you want to be picky about it) and I’m sure theirs is much cleaner than mine.
Glad to hear your home and that NikkiZ hadn’t forgotten all about ya.
I am kinda wondering the same thing…so spill, already!
I am glad you are back. I can’t wait to hear more about your trip! It sounded pretty cool!
I used to think TiVo couldn’t have been all it was cracked up to be. Until I got it. And now I don’t think I can ever live without it.
Will you ban me from reading your blog if I tell you that I don’t watch tv and haven’t for about 10 years. Oh, I see the odd show when I’m on vacation at a friend’s house. And we did hook up the cable when 9-11 happened because I was traumatized like everyone else and wanted to know what was going on at every minute. So we actually watched Fear Factor 3 or 4 times during that phase, but then we unplugged the cable again and went back to being tvless.
Let me add this though, between watching every movie that comes out (we are Gold members at Blockbuster since about 2001 - which means renting at least 100 movies per year…dead serious) and reading blogs…if I watched tv I would never see the light of day!
P.S. Sounds like NIkkiZ definitely had the appropriate reaction to make you feel loved and cherished upon your return! She’s your girl!
there is nothing better than laying your head down on your own bed when youve been away. I wonder when Australia will pull their heads in and give us cheaper cable tv and TiVo.
TiVo is the best thing ever. It’s like second nature to pause and rewind. I too wonder how we ever lived without it.
I hope you have a great weekend with the family.
I need a new post - did tivo eat miss zoot?
We don’t have tivo in New Zealand
