Either I’m Normal or We’re All Gross and Lazy! Woo!
Category: Domestic Me |

Wow. I’m so surprised at how many of you answered in the SAME WAY I would have. I was scared to tell you the truth when you all are just like me! (sort of). Here we go:

1. Do you clean your counters with a sponge or paper towel?I used my Method Non-Toxic spray (in case the little fingers get exposed to get and put in mouths) and paper towels. I don’t know if it’s because I hand-wash my dishes, but my sponge seems so nasty I’m scared to use it on my counter. Contradictory, I know, since I use it to clean the dishes. I mean - why is it too gross to clean my counter but not my DISHES which I EAT OFF OF? I’m weird.

2. Do you re-use towels after you shower or get a clean one every time? How long do you re-use them before getting a clean one out? I wash our towels every weekend. So, we reuse our towels all week. Which, SO DO MOST OF YOU! I was convinced all of you would say you washed yours daily and I’d feel gross. But seriously - my body is clean after I shower - why throw it in the hamper?

3. Do you do all of your grocery shopping for the week at once or do you make several medium-sized trips? I used to be able to do all of my shopping on Saturdays and not go again until the next Saturday. Since NikkiZ was born? I’ve given up because I always seem to forget something or we run out of something faster than I predicted. So, I do one MAJOR trip on the weekends and several quick stops throughout the week.

4. How often do you clean your bathtub? Rarely. And that’s all I’ll say for fear of alienating any future guests.

5. How often do you clean your coffee-maker? I clean the pot every few months and the maker itself once or twice a year. MAX.

6. If you bake something like biscuits on a cookie-sheet, but put aluminum foil under it, do you then wash the cookie sheet? NO! And I’m thrilled you all agreed that that’s the point of the foil. I heard someone say recently they use the foil to make the pan EASIER to clean, which floored me.

7. Do you clean your blinds? We’ve been in our house for almost three years now and I’ve never EVER cleaned them. I’m awesome.

I may be weird but I don’t like sponges…I just imagine them as germ traps. Papertowels are my way to go too…and I love METHOD. Their tub and tile cleaner smells good!

  2. vanna Says:

i have a sponge phobia. i have not owned a sponge ever in my life.

  3. Tiffany Says:

I’m with you on the being floored about using foil to make it easier to clean.

The deal with sponges is, put them in the dishwasher at the end of the day and run them with the dishes. Then, if you think they’re gross still, you can stick them in the microwave for a minute which will kill off everything disgusting.

Oh, and try parchment for your cookies. They slide right off. Ditto for the silpat, but you have to wash that!

  5. Maria Says:

My BIL uses different sponges for different actions and if someone accidentally uses the wrong sponge for the wrong actions he throws it out.

With regards to my using a fresh towel each time I shower, the only reason I do is because I never know whether my DH has dusted his hands on my towel. And I am paranoid about putting a dusty towel against my face :-)

  6. Kyla Says:

Yay for being gross and lazy together! I feel normal. :)

  7. Nienuh Says:

Wow, your remark about the house in 7, i still remember you moved. Do i read your blog for that long already? Awesome!
I use my towels about 2/3 times (and i take a shower every day) so i use 2 in a week.. but the rest same like you.

  8. Karly Says:

I have a question for YOU now. How often do you clean your oven? Because, um, I have never cleaned mine. My oven is six years old and it has NEVER once been cleaned. Is that gross? Because really, the food doesn’t touch the oven it just sits on the pan and so I see no reason for cleaning the oven! Other than the small fact that my cookies burn on the bottoms and are mushy on top and everyone insists this is because my oven is dirty. Whatever! I’ll just not bake cookies!

  9. Tami Says:

About the blinds….rarely clean them. I usually notice one day that they’re grungy and throw them out and buy new ones. Pathetic that I’d rather spend the money rather than clean the things…

  10. Jem Says:

I didn’t get to answer before and I love questions, so heres my answers!

Do you clean your counters with a sponge or paper towel? Material cloth, and/or paper towels but normally cloth which is also really icky.

Do you re-use towels after you shower or get a clean one every time? How long do you re-use them before getting a clean one out? I used to swap them once a week, then I discovered my boyfriend changed his EVERY DAY so I figured I was terrible at life and started washing mine every day or so…I’m so glad he’s the freak, not me. Anyway, I’m lazy so its normally just once every three days or whatever.

Do you do all of your grocery shopping for the week at once or do you make several medium-sized trips? About once a week…I plan recipes and buy the ingredients in one go.

How often do you clean your bathtub? I never have, but I still live at home

How often do you clean your coffee-maker? I don’t have one

If you bake something like biscuits on a cookie-sheet, but put aluminum foil under it, do you then wash the cookie sheet? Um, normally put the biscuits straight on the cookie sheet, otherwise I’d probably just wipe down the sheet but I doubt I’d wash it properly unless it had gotten dirty
Do you clean your blinds? No

I already knew I was a freak but now I really feel freakish!!!

Do you clean your counters with a sponge or paper towel?
I use a dish cloth, which I wash in the washing maching everyday in bleach…and I often use more than one dish cloth each day because I get grossed out by them easily.

Do you re-use towels after you shower or get a clean one every time? How long do you re-use them before getting a clean one out? After every shower/bath I grab a fresh one…and I shower or bath twice everyday. I have alot of laundry…luckily I have a clothes line.

Do you do all of your grocery shopping for the week at once or do you make several medium-sized trips?
This has been a bit of a struggle for me. I used to go almost everyday (I’d walk for exercise when I only had one child). Now I seem to go twice a week..I’m trying to plan meals and waste less etc.

How often do you clean your bathtub? Everyday, except on weekends when I might skip a day.

How often do you clean your coffee-maker? We have a perculator and I don’t touch it. It gets washed out every morning by my husband…but I think he just rinses it…after coffee has sat allllllll day long in it.

If you bake something like biscuits on a cookie-sheet, but put aluminum foil under it, do you then wash the cookie sheet? I use foil and I wash it….I just use foil to make washing easier.

Do you clean your blinds? I dust them each week (i use Endust on a cloth and wipe each slat individually).

I have issues….issues I never knew I had! I’m working on them…I don’t want to live like this because it’s a waste of valuable life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Sarah Says:

Forget foil…parchment paper is the way to go.

Oh and for towels. Usually I will use three times, but if we have company over I use a new every time because you never know who has been wiping their hands or faces on them.

I clean my tub twice a monh with the Mr. Clean Magic Scrubb thing. Then I wipe the walls and stuff down with bleach.

  13. Michele Says:

I didn’t get to answer them before hand.
Okay I’ve got to say NO way on the towels for a whole week. We change them after two days, because it grosses me out. You live in the south and i know it’s muggy so there’s and I have to wonder if there a funk after a couple of days in the summer on your towels? Bath tub once a month, but when my son was little and took baths, once a week. coffee pot–nightly.Blinds–I hire someone twice a year to come in and clean them.
As a cook I will tell you tin foil will change the out come of your baked goods. For meatloaf or BBQ it’s fine but cookies and biscuits will brown faster. If you get a good pan say an air bake nothing sticks and you can wipe them clean in minutes. I love my silpat–it’s another non-stick option.
