My daughter is 3 days away from her debut performance as “Flower Girl #2.” She will be walking down the aisle of MrZ’s brother’s 300-person wedding on Saturday and I met her co-star (”Flower Girl #1″) at the church today in hopes that the introduction would start the warming-up process before Saturday. FG#1 is almost a year older and very excited about her role in this wedding. NikkiZ, on the other hand, kept holding on to my calves saying, “Hole Choo Peeeez, Hole Choo Peeez, Hold Choo Peez…”
(Translation: “Hold You, Please.” Derived from, “Do you want me to hold you?” Yes. It is the cutest thing in the world.)
Anyway - I just don’t think she’s feeling it. I know the bride and MrZ’s brother don’t really care and won’t freak out if NikkiZ doesn’t do it, but it would be so awesome if she would. Her brother and Dad will be at the front of the church since they’re groomsmen, and I’ll be near the front on the aisle, so we’re hoping her seeing all of us will inspire her to move from the back of the church to the front in a timely fashion. Of course, it may be running and screaming, “Momomomomomomomomom…” with nary a flower to be dropped, but at least she’ll have made her appearance, right?
I’m hoping she’ll look at the FG#1 and simply want to do what that big girl is doing and all will go well. Or at least that if it goes horribly wrong like my vivid imagination predicts, it gives the bride and groom a good story to re-tell as they grow old together: Remember at our wedding? When NikkiZ started screaming and then Kim ran back to get her and tripped down the aisle ripping off her own dress and mooning the entire group of 300 guests? That was funny.

Worry not! My niece was only 15 months old and was our flower girl. We had her daddy help her down the aisle, just because she’d not fully learned the whole “balancing” thing, but she went straight down to her mom….later she tried to help me “fix” my bouquet because she thought the petals on the aisle had fallen out of it.
I wouldn’t worry (I mean… I would worry too, but I don’t think you need to - heh.). Whatever she’ll do, it’ll be cute.
Aw, I love little kids in weddings… they make things infinitely more entertaining. The four-year old flower girl in the wedding I was at last weekend kept humming “Here Comes the Bride” really quietly, off-and-on, the whole time. (Which was made even more amusing by the fact that the bride did not walk in to the ceremony to that song.)
Did I miss where she says “Mom” now? Or “momomomom,” I guess. Finally, you’ve surpassed “trash.”
(Speaking of, maybe she will be the reverse flower-girl and pick up all the petals… )
I got nothing on the Flower Girl thing except Good Luck! and Better You Than Me!
But! My 3 year old STILL says “Mommy, I wanna hold you.” Melts my heart everytime.
Neither of my flower girls actually did anything with flowers and refused to carry the cute monogrammed baskets I’d made. But one did make it down the aisle. One of my flower girls pitched a last minute fit and sat with her mom. UNTIL….she saw my now husband which she totally has the hots for and she ran up to him. And stood there. Next to him. Happy as can be!
My son just was a ring bearer in a wedding. I bribed him with candy if he would walk down the aisle with the pillow. He did but, as soon as he reached the end he tossed the pillow to the priest from the bottom of the pew. Thank God the rings were tied down. The priest caught the pillow and the whole group laughed.
Wear shorts under your dress.
One can never be too careful.
My nephew was our ring bearer at the age of 2 1/2. He did really well at the rehearsal, but on the day of the wedding, he dropped the pillow and ran down the aisle to the front of the church instead of the nice, slow walk he practiced. It was the cutest thing ever, and it helped to cut the formality of the occasion. His dad was in the wedding, so he was at the front, and his mom sat halfway down the aisle to lure him. A family friend that he was comfortable with stayed in the back with him to give him his cue. It all worked out just fine, and I know that this will too!
Another example? My husband’s cousin got married while he was still overseas and couldn’t attend her wedding. We all were very emotional all day at having him gone. Her flower girl was about 3 at the time and had been bribed with candy, rehearsed numerous times, family members were strategically placed, etc. In the end, she ran down the aisle, turned her basket upside down on the stage with all the flower petals in a little pile, and then glued herself to the side of the 8-year-old ring bearer who she had a desperate crush on. It lightened the mood of the whole day, and had all of us laughing.
My daughter used to say “Hole jew” for “Hold you”. She’s almost four now and I miss it.
I’m sure NikkiZ will do fine, and if not, you’ll have some great stories to tell!
He he heh good luck with that, small kids are never going to do what you want them to do. I can remember around the age of three, being the littlest shepard in the Sunday School Nativity play when right in the middle of it all, to my mother’s horror I did a strip tease, sheding the itchy dressing gown and towel around my head, dumping the stuffed lamb on the stage and stomping off stage. I think I wanted to be an angel.
OMG, could you please do that? It would make an excellent blog post.
Aw that does sound pretty adorable! I think she’ll be great, and even if she freaks a little, people will be too in awe of the cuteness to really care.
At my sister’s wedding the ring barer didn’t go down the isle at all and I think the flower girl made it as far as her grandma, running half way. But everyone thought it was cute and the kids looked cute for the pictures, which is the important part, right?
Don’t do it.
Hopefully she’ll make it down the aisle and you won’t have to do that
My son was the ring bearer in my BIL’s wedding when he was 3 and he just stood at the end of the aisle and GLARED at everyone. The groom walked down and carried him up the aisle. It was REALLY cute! Just have the someone be ready to help her out.
Moo is three and he still says ‘hold choo” same thing…so cute. Or “sit my lap!” from Do you want to sit on my lap?
