Wanted: Sappy Songs!
Category: Movies, Music and More |

I worked this weekend on a graduation video for my sister-in-law as a type of graduation gift from her Mom (who must have scanned 300+ photos) and I. I did it in iMovie and it turned out pretty good for my first one. The only problem is, I didn’t realize how long my gaps between music were until the day she watched it. So, before I burn it to a DVD (which is giving me fits) I would love to fill in those gaps. Do any of you know of any good sappy music either about friendship or love or family or something? The more current the better, but I used “Isn’t She Lovely” and that is definitely not current. So - old but recognizable is good too. Thanks!

These Are Days - not sure if it’s just Natalie Merchant, or 10,000 Maniacs
Reminds Me Of You - Van Morrison
Hold You In My Arms - Ray LaMontagne (ultra sappy, possibly good for baby pictures)

supposed to be working, so didn’t read above comments … but must add “So Damn Lucky,” by Dave Matthews. I used it in a slideshow for my mother in law’s digital picture frame, and it seems to lend itself to slideshows pretty well … back to work …

  20. lemonade Says:

OMG..cant believe no one’s mentioned this as yet..!!

MY GIRL-The Temptations..!!! (Thats beyond perfect..!!!)

  21. Linda Says:

At my brother’s graduation, way back in 1983, they had a slide show (none of this new fangled video/dvd’s in those days!) of all the grads through different years of their lives, from infancy right up to grade 12. The presentation was set to “Old and Wise” by the Alan Parsons Project - by the end, there wasn’t a dry eye in the place.

  22. Emily Says:

Has anyone suggested Jack Johnson yet? He has some great, happy, peppy, feel-good, lovey songs.

  23. Mallory Says:

Ok, I am late to the party, so all mine were taken, but I am totally making that compilation tape myself and looking at old yearbook pics and crying over my big, aqua-net hair. I would add “Suddenly I See” because it has that “you can see she’s a beautiful girl, she’s a beautiful girl, and everywhere she goes she leaves a silver pool of light…” Who wouldn’t want that dedicated to them?

  24. JayMonster Says:

Bill Medley + Jennifer Warnes (I’ve Had) The Time of my Life
Patrick Swayze She’s Like the Wind

  25. Tiffani Says:

    “My Girl”–The Temptations!!!!!

“This One’s for the Girls”–Martina McBride

“Time of the Season” — Blake Lewis (LOL)

OK, everyone else has offered some great songs, so I’ll stop. :-)

  26. kimblahg Says:

Did anyone say “This is the time to remember but it will not last forever” by I don’t know who?

  27. Belinda Says:

No suggestions that haven’t aready been said but at my Son’s graduation they played the song “Beautiful day” from U2.

It was a back up because they had an issue with the song they had actually chosen. The sentiment is nice because it truly WAS a beautiful day, but if you know the lyrics it’s actually a rather depressing song for someone heading out in the world..”Your on the road, but you’ve got no destination…”

Regardless, whatever music that is chosen the Mom will still tear up when she hears it. I do when I hear that U2 song!

  28. Joanna Says:

That KT Tunstall song, Suddenly I See. It’s the one they always played on American Idol when the girl contestants go the boot. It always makes me a little teary but in a happy girl-power way.

  29. Dawn Says:

I believe there is a version of John Lennon’s BEAUTIFUL BOY
    out for BEAUTIFUL GIRL…
I started my sons graduation dvd with that one…
    also included where….
    The River- Garth Brooks
    Time of your Life
    and
    This is your Life

  30. Danelle Says:

Kimberly Locke has a new song out called Change, that could be good.
    Also-
    Butterfly Kisses
    Through The Years
    Wind Beneath My Wings
    In My Daughter’s Eyes
    You Can’t Lose Me

  31. Phillip Says:

Haven’t visited in a long time (sorry). But… when did you get a Mac? *is happy for you*

  32. Inky1121 Says:

Hi. I am normally just a lurker here…I love reading your blog. I had to break in to comment on this. I just made a slide show for my daughter who is graduating from high school next week. I used My Little Girl by Tim McGraw for the younger pics, then Happy Girl by Martina McBride and How to Say Goodbye by Michael W Smith. He wrote that for his daughter who was graduating. It is a major tear jerker!!
