Thirteen Things You Should Know And I Forgot To Tell You

Angel
The only time she smiled all day while NOT in the presence of my sister-in-law’s boyfriend who she has a giant crush on

It’s been a long time since I participated in the Thursday Thirteen, so why not jump back in today? I would like to mention 13 random things that have nothing to do with each other or this photo above, but are things I’ve meant to mention the last few weeks and have forgotten due to the insanity of my life.

  1. Did you hear there’s going to be a Harry Potter Theme Park? I heard the first announcement but then 20 people emailed me about it because YOU ALL KNOW ME TOO WELL. I can not wait.
  2. Speaking of awesome news, CBS officially announced they’re bringing back Jericho. YOU MUST WATCH IT WITH ME!
  3. My mystery itching is still bugging me, but not as bad as it was for the last few weeks. I’m hoping it is fading away, never to return again.
  4. LilZ has been reading like a madman already this summer and it reminds me how awesome it is that he’s a reader. I just don’t think you can force a kid to become a reader, and I just let him learn to love books on his own, never trying to squash his tastes. Even though I would LOVE for him to read Harry Potter (No. He’s still not read the whole series. Giving me no one to blame my obsession on but myself.) I won’t force it on him.
  5. MrZ and I went to Red Lobster the other day and I decided my new favorite food that I totally forgot about is: Cheese Biscuits from Red Lobster. BEST THING EVER.
  6. NikkiZ has stopped needing to be rocked to sleep at night and now I can just read her the regular group of Night-Night Books and put her in her crib and she closes her eyes and goes to sleep about 80% of the time. It took no pain to get to that point. We just tried it one day and it worked. One of these days, I’m going to be cursed because my kids have been so damn easy.
  7. I’m not going to give you the gory details of the conversation, but MrZ and I were arguing proper medical terms for parts of the female anatomy the other day. (A conversation that made LilZ about pee on himself he was laughing so hard.) And do you want to know something? HE WAS RIGHT! How is it that HE knows more about the female anatomy than I do? (That’s a rhetorical question.)
  8. I’ve been sending pictures to print at Target from flickr a lot lately, and every time I do it, it makes me happy inside knowing that two of my favorite things: flickr and Target, are like total BFFs.
  9. We are suffering under a severe drought this summer already. It’s all anyone talks about around here. It’s so bad that the morning weather people actually talk about rain falling in Minnesota because there’s nothing on the Southeast radar to discuss. But, there is one positive I’ve noticed. The mosquitoes aren’t near as bad as they usually are. That’s my silver lining.
  10. My new favorite non-caffeinated drink: Diet A&W root beer.
  11. I think I’m finally learning how to work my new cell phone. It’s funny, having LilZ there to show me how to do things makes my life so much easier!
  12. We are still living our life without a dishwasher. This hasn’t really phased me too much, although I do have nights (like last night) where I yell, “SOMEONE ELSE IS WASHING DISHES TONIGHT!” But that’s only once in awhile. But now? We have no running water in our kitchen as MrZ changes our faucet. Awesome that we’re getting a new faucet, not so awesome we’re washing dishes in the shower. Linda should give us some pointers.
  13. My toenails are still on and actually looking better, giving me hope I’m not going to lose them. Although, for some reason, MrZ is stepping on “accidentally” them a lot more lately. It’s almost like he WANTS them to fall off. Do you think he has a secret desire to have a wife with no toenails?

We haven’t had much rain here, either (here = Pittsburgh) but you know what else is sort of nice besides no mosquitos? If it doesn’t rain, the grass doesn’t grow, and then my husband doesn’t have to injure himself cutting it. (Most of our backyard is a pretty steep hill, hence the injuries.)

re: The Rocking – I was just wondering last night now long I am going to have to do that. You are giving me hope. We are finally at a point where we can put him in the crib wide awake and pat his back as he lies there.

re: Readers – You make a very good point about letting kids read what they want to read -I definitely intend to do the same. And it’s HARD when Arun wants to read his damned Things That Go book yet again because OH MY GOD, that is the most boring book known to man. But you are right – let ‘em read what they want.

  3. Kate says:

Good luck with the mystery itch….we’ve got a bit of that at our house too. Love the A&W too. Haven’t tried the Flickr/Target thing yet….may have to now. Toenails falling off?? Where is the Harry Potter theme park going to be?

  4. Liz(arita) says:

Did you get press on toes? How did I miss that? I wear press on toes all summer long and LOVE THEM.

  5. mrscrumley says:

Toenails- last night I went and got a pedicure at a local nail salon. When I told my husband I was going to have my toes done, he said, “Take them off? Like in Syriana?”

Red Lobster- I don’t like seafood, but I love the cheese biscuits there!

  6. stacey says:

hmmmmm cheese biscuits. sweet yummy goodness. crap, now I want some.

As for the drought…I wish I could send some of the storms from NOLA, your way. Everyday, except yesterday there has been storms. I hate lighting.

  7. christine says:

In response to 9 – drought…that’s a bit funny because here in Minnesota…the news talks about us having a dought year this year.

  8. Hi, I’m new to commenting here;>

Just had to thank you for reminding me of one of my favorite items in the whole wide world…Red Lobster’s cheddar biscuits. I think I know where we might have to eat this weekend.

  9. I am SO with you on the cheese biscuits — I saw a commercial the other day for Red Lobster (which I haven’t been to in years) and I was honest-to-god salivating over them!

  10. Wacky Mommy says:

No rain in Oregon, either. And we always have rain.

Dang it now I want Red Lobster.

  11. Mar says:

There is a recipe on the side of the Bisquick box for cheese biscuits that taste just like the Red Lobster ones, and they are super duper easy to make!

  12. cursingmama says:

The recipe from bisquick is the original cheese garlic biscuit recipe. Back when they transitioned from garlic toast to the biscuit they were owned by General Mills. The only difference is in the garlic sauce that gets brushed on…the original is much more industrial and trust me you don’t want to know ;)

You can the recipe at the betty croker website.

  13. Janet says:

Woohoo for Jericho! That is awesome! Skeet baby bettah sign up soon :-)

We have no Red Lobstahs around heah…the closest one is 95 miles south in CT.

How funny…that’s all I’ve been drinking lately, too, diet A&W root beer…on ice…the BEST!

  14. Fraulein N says:

Okay, whyyyy did you have to mention Red Lobster cheesy biscuits? The commercial was just on so naturally I’m thinking I need to go there. And now I’m convinced. It’s all your fault.

I’ll think of you when I’m in cheese biscuit heaven. :-)

  15. tiffany says:

i am soooo excited for jericho.

  16. Diet A&W Rootbeer is the best sugariest (is that a word?) drink ever!

  17. Maribeth says:

OMG! She is so totally sweet and awesome! You guys must be so proud!

  18. Shash says:

Zoot, I was SO excited too about the new Harry Potter theme park! My brother works at Universal so he’s (hopefully) going to keep me up to date with all the happenings with it.

You’ll have to stay with us when it is ready. We live nearby!

  1. 13 Interesting "Blog for a Year" Bloggers…

I’ve been joining the Blog for a Year competition since April 29 this year. It’s actually been started since July 2006, but I just found it out in April. Anyway, by the moment I write this list, I’m on the first page of the list which means I am…

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
