Woo Hoo! It’s Damn Friday and I’m so Happy I want to Kiss You!

Do you know how glad I am this week is finally over? So glad that I’ve got several entries set to go live today that do nothing but talk about Awesome Things Besides Fridays that Make Me Happy. Aren’t you excited? No one seems to be on the internet on Fridays – but I’m going to do it anyway. Because I’m a damn rebel.

This week has been HELL. The first week of every month is because there are ninety different work related things going on besides my usual week-in week-out type of responsibilites. This means I spend all week playing catch up. And I’m not sure if I’m even going to finally catch up this week. But who cares? It’s FRIDAY!

So – here’s my question for you. When it comes to work, would you rather be SO BUSY you can’t even take a break to eat, or so FREAKIN’ BORED you find yourself drawing on your arms just to pass the time? It’s an either/or situation, you can’t wuss out and pick half of each. You HAVE to choose one or the other. I’ve had it both ways and honestly? I’m not sure which is better. Being bored SUCKS, trust me, I spent the last six months at my last job just waiting for work to come in. But the anxiety having a GOGOGOGO type of job is a wee stressful too. I think I like BUSY better, but it’s a really tough called. BORED is kinda nice sometimes. Especially when it allows you to doodle on your arms.

Oh, I’m certainly a GoGoGo kinda gal when it comes to work time. It makes the time pass quicker, which is always better, even if you can’t enjoy it with beautiful, art-filled arms.

  2. Katy says:

I prefer to be Krazee Busy at work, myself. I wind up eating, surfing the net, or otherwise wasting my time othewise. And then I feel guilty and terrible. But I also hate the stress. Ah, my kinddom for a happy medium!

  3. Alison C says:

I would rather be very busy. Then it’s time to go home before you know it!

  4. Hedda says:

I worked a job where I was BORED too death. I thought I was going to have to jump out of the window. I would much rather prefer to be so busy I don’t have time to breathe. That’s just me though. My dh would rather play on the internet all day.

  5. Tara says:

Ha ha, how can I answer it, when you can’t answer it! :) But if I absolutely HAD to choose. Probably busy.

  6. Nicole P. says:

My boredom in my current job is what allows me to hit refresh on Google Reader constantly to see whose blogs have updated. Sucks on days when no one seems to be posting.

I’m starting a new job at the beginning of July and it sounds like I’ll actually have to work…which I’m secretly looking forward to.

  7. dude you totally picked both

  8. Alias Mother says:

I’m going to go with insane busy. Because there’s nothing worse than the dull, slow week that won’t end. On the other hand, crazy busy tends to make me crazy overall after a while and I start having panic attacks at 2AM because I forgot to do something at work.

I used to work in publishing, which was great because it would be CRAZY, INSANE busy before a deadline and then everyone would sort of fall over and regroup. I kind of miss that.

Of course, there’s always Option C: early retirement.

(That sound you hear is my bank account laughing hysterically.)

  9. LadyBoyd says:

Definitely would rather be busy. If I’m bored at work I start thinking of all the other things that I need to do and COULD be doing if I weren’t stuck behind a desk doodling on my arms….but yeah, the doodles usually look pretty cool.

  10. Jenn says:

Well, considering that I’m a freelancer working at home who doesn’t get paid unless I have work to do…I would rather be super busy, like I am right now. And yet , I’m reading blogs anyway!

  11. mrscrumley says:

When I was working we had it both ways and I think I preferred the busy stuff. This was because when I was bored I thought about quitting my job a lot more. It always felt like such a waste to even be there.

I finally quit during a busy time because it was going to go out of the atmosphere insane with mismanagement. The time was right, so I dumped them.

  12. Steff says:

I prefer being busy! If I have to be here keep me occupied or I just want to waste my leave and go home!

  13. jomama says:

I definitely prefer to be so busy that I don’t have time to pee. It gives me an adrenaline rush. I hate having nothing to do at work; it makes the day drag.

  14. Tiffany says:

    Crazy busy.

  15. Dirka says:

I prefer to be busy. At my last job, I could do whatever I wanted online, play games, instant message, etc… and it made me want to scream. It was cool for the first few months, but then? I hated it. I like where I am now. Some days it’s slow enough that I can upload pics to flickr, and other days, I don’t even have time to eat.

  16. Vicki says:

    Busy Busy Busy

  17. stacey says:

Give me the busy!! right now I am so bored bored bored….that i have scoured the internet at least twice now….

  18. Susan says:

I guess busy, but that’s a hard one, because my work at it’s busiest, kind of makes me a different person. I get what I call “event planner stomach” and people constantly ask me if I need help. Uh, yeah. That’s not cool. But neither is boring. Why am I even trying to answer this question? Probably because I’m procrastinating some … work!

  19. Janet says:

Well, when it’s boring at work, I can always surf the ‘net so I’m not bored.

What are you doing for work now?

  20. Busy all the way. I can’t stand being bored at work. You look at the clock and it’s 2:19. Three hours later, or so it feels, you look at the clock at it’s 2:22. Aieeeee!

  21. Tami says:

Ooooh, that’s a tough one….I work 16 hour shifts, so busy is better for the time flying by factor & adrenalin rush, but if I’m that busy, people are probably sick &/or dying and not status quo. Gosh, after saying that, I guess I’d rather be bored….

  22. Lisa says:

I’d so much rather be busybusybusy. But there should be a slow time every few weeks or you burn out. But I don’t cope well with being bored at work.

  23. Maria says:

I will have to go with BUSY. I’ve never had a job where there was a slow period.

  24. dee says:

I like bored because that means I have more time to read your blog! ;)

Of course, busy is nice too because it makes the day go faster. I still say bored. The internet is a very fun place.

  25. Leslie says:

I’d pick busy. I miss my old days of restaurant work because hours would just fly by and I never even thought about it.

  26. Randi says:

I’m a procrastinator by nature – the more under pressure I am, the better I work. If I have 20 hours to complete project that will take 2 hours, I wait until there’s about 3 hours left and then scramble, cursing myself LOL. So I guess I’d have to say busy.

  27. Audrey says:

I would much rather be busy! The majority of my time at work tends to fall into the BORED category. A couple of weeks ago I was so busy that i actually had to multi-task. It was WEIRD. But those were also the two happiest weeks of my job in recent memory. It’s funny — when I actually get to do my job I remember that I don’t hate my job. I love it, i just wish I could spend more time doing it!

  28. Courtney says:

I’d pick bored because I’m lazy. There’s always plenty to do at home, so I think I could handle bored at work all day even though it would kinda suck if it were that way every day.

  29. amanda says:

its very disheartening to me that everyone is picking busy (almost everyone) because i have been BORED out of MY MIND for a good month now. i work in testing and so it’s incredibly cyclical. right now it the slow cycle. i hate it. i’ve resorted to watching episodes of network television shows (that have already been cancelled) online… and having to click off onto email or something when my corworkers walk behind me.

its misersable. the internet is only good for maybe two, three days of bored. a month though… a month is hell.

  30. Sara says:

They both suck but I’ve found that at least in busy-busy mode the weight she goes down a bit. When it’s slooooow up she creeps.

  31. Jem says:

Both suck, but it depends on the job (I’m a student at the moment) – if I was singing/acting I’d want to be too busy. If it was a job I hated, I’d want to be bored. That being said, I usually prefer being really busy.

  32. Jessie says:

I would definitely rather be too busy. Too bored makes the days drag on and make me waste sick days because I’d rather stay home and be bored than be at work and be bored.

  33. Erin says:

I’d much rather be busy. I have a tendency to get groggy when I’m bored and it’s cold, as it usually is in my office.

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
