The best way to deal with temptation is to eat it
I bought a box of swiss cake rolls yesterday. It came with six packs of two. I ate four packs of them while at work. (On top of my usual lunch and breakfast.) Today? I ate the final two. And by “two” I mean two packs with two cakes each. Why? WHY? I wasn’t even hungry. It’s just that they were sitting there calling to me, begging to be eaten. Yesterday I made myself sick eating four (packs, 8 cakes total). So – what did I do today? Ate the rest. On top of my breakfast and lunch. I have NO willpower. NONE. ZIP. ZILCH. NADA.
Which is why I should have never bought them in the first place. But for some reason, like every other time I buy junk food, I think “This time, it will be different. I’ll just eat one.”
Yeah, right. I’ll just eat one…this hour…and then every hour after until they’re gone.

this is why i don’t allow myself to do the grocery shopping…because i would have done the exact same thing.
Haha… I’m like that. For some reason, it makes perfect sense to me to think, “These cookies are bad for me. I don’t want them around anymore because I will be tempted to eat them. I better eat them all NOW so they are not just sitting around tempting me to eat them all week long.”
Yeah….
I keep walking down the cookie and ice cream aisles just staring at all that goodness. Today, I put a couple of packs of Pepperidge Farm cookies in my cart, walked away, and then put them back.
I did compromise though and bought some Kashi cookies. Have you tried those? They are really quite yummy.
Not as yummy as Swiss Cake Rolls, but yummy.
Delurking (I think) to say: I kow EXACTLY how you feel. I CANNOT have any kind of candy at home, ESPECIALLY whole packages. I’ll do the same thing you do, which is eat it just because it is there. I will say: Oh, I’ll just take a cookie now and that will be fine. Then I end up going back to the kitchen about every seven minutes, each time getting just ONE cookie. And the kitchen is at the exact OTHER END of my apartment than my room is. I will do this until the entire box is empty. At least I burn some extra calories that way…heh…
I am SO the exact same way. Little Debbie cakes are dangerous. At WW we call that a “red light” food. I guess because you should come to a complete STOP before you pick them up at the store!!
That is the story of my life, well, my dieting life anyway. I have absolutely no self control around junk food.
Once you buy them, you might as well just eat the whole thing, because then it is GONE and isn’t tempting you anymore. You really did the only rational thing.
I LOVE those things. Do you peel the outer chocolate off, then unroll it as you eat? Or just bore right through and chomp it whole? I’m an unroller. Makes the joy last just a leeeeetle longer.
lady boyd – do the same thing. Ohhhh…soo gooood.
but yeah – we have that issue here…I acutally found ALWAYS having some junk food around was better than never having it around. Plus, I’m lucky and my husbnad hates the junk I love, so we each have our own junk food, so I know if I “need” it, it will be there. Knowing it’s always there kinda somehow makes it easier to not have something for a few days, andeasier to only have one when I do need my junk (oh, and by one you know I mean one pack, not one cake. Just one cake? that is insane.)
But ice cream? DAMN YOU ICE CREAM!!!!!! that is another story….a story that involves pints that are eaten in one night while the husb looks on, jaw agape saying “You’re eating the WHOLE PINT?” and me looking at him like “Wha? this isn’t normal on your planet?” A story that involves why I cann’t buy a 1/2 gallon because I WILL eat it all in one day…Oh, ice cream, how I wish I could quit you….
I peal the chocolate icing layer off, but not the cake. I chomp through the cake. heh.
At least you got your fix…for a while.
We put them in the freezer and eat them that way..yummers!
I’m in the same boat — no willpower, but I love the junk so I buy it. And then eat it. I also peel the chocolate off the swiss cake rolls
rofl. I do the same thing. It’s reallyh bad when I buy a lot of different junky things, and I have to sample each of them…. and then I eat all of it.
oh! Love those things! They’re especially good frozen.
And whoever had that slogan, “Betcha can’t eat just one” was definitely on to something…
I cannot have tempting food in the house, otherwise I’ll eat it. My husband doesn’t understand this. Of course, he is the guy whose favorite treat is jelly bellies. He has a jar sitting on his desk and he takes 2-3 out a day to eat.
They’d have been gone within moments in my world. I think they call it WILL POWER (or lack thereof….)
This is so me. I eat the junk food all the time, too!
I do the same thing with peanut butter kudos bars. OMG I could eat all 10.
You are so not alone. It’s an issue for all of us. I got six chocolate Krispy Kreme doughnuts this morning, thinking maybe I would share them. Right. I ate every single one. And I was kinda sick. But I ate them anyway. What is WRONG with us?? I wrote a post about it as well.

Self-control? Bwaaa to self-control.
oh man, you had to go there. i love swiss cake rolls and now desire one. in high school, i used to peel off the hard chocolate shell and unroll the chocolate sponge cake to dip in a chocolate shake. yeah, i ate well in high school. i also love nutty bars, star crunches and those apple streudel squares.
Do you eat when you are nervous? I sure do. Please pass the chocolate…
I love, love, love Little Debbie Swiss Cake Rolls. I am also very fond of the Nutty Bars and Oatmeal Pies. That’s why I avert my gaze when I pass the Little Debbie section at the grocery store.
Dude, they must be infusing those with crack or something lately. I found myself getting them too, and then again from the vending machine at work. BUT that evil machine has packs of 3 – and 3 swiss cake rolls is just too much in one sitting. I had to give one away.
I’m a Nutty Bar girl. Throw ‘em in the freezer, chase ‘em with a nice cold glass of milk… yummmm
Cinnamon Granola Bites make my girly bits tingle too.
I will happily eat any cake on offer!! I was reading a book last night about a woman who lost her husband and through the grief learnt to cook and opened a bakery. Some of the foods she described (in vivd detail) had me salivating on the bedsheets then popping downstairs for a midnight snack. (And zoot, don’t feel guilty, I recently ate a 6 pack of jelly donuts in about 20 mins!!)
