“Some”
I am fanatic about putting lotion on my hands because my cuticles tear and bleed if they dry out for more than 2.2 seconds. I keep lotion in my purse, both cars, at my desk at work, and in every room in the house. Nothing fancy, usually the Target version of the Aveeno stuff – but it’s there.
Of course, NikkiZ has seen me do this enough that she has now become obsessed with lotion. She loves putting it on and actually understands that some lotion is for our feet (the peppermint stuff) and some is for our face (my Dove moisturizer) and tries to put the right lotion on the right body parts.
We were playing outside this weekend and she noticed the lotion on the ground in the pile of stuff I was cleaning out of my car. She immediately grabbed it and would not concern herself with anything else but the applicaton of that lotion. She would no longer look at the camera (because, as usual, I was taking pictures) and she didn’t seem to care that her brother was taking stickers off of various things and putting them on her head. She was mesmerized by the lotion.
And if she sees me putting it on in the car? She immediately starts saying her lotion mantra, “Some? Some? Some? Peez? Some?” until you hand her the tube or at least give her a couple of dabs in her hands. BOTH hands. She considers it an injustice if you only squirt a drop on one palm and will thrust the other in your face and say, “More?” with a hint of a “Duh…” tone. Like, how dare you not consider the fact that she had two hands when distributing moisturizer.
I will say this: It is currently the universal Soothe All. Lotion is that one thing that will calm her down or make her happy if she is upset or if she has fallen or if any other tragedy has occurred in her life. (Like a Dog Kiss. She hates those.) Just offer her some lotion and the tears stop and the breathing calms. I’ll take it, for now. I’m sure the older she gets those items will just get more and more expensive. I’ll be wishing for the 3.59 Tube of Cure All when she is totally depressed in high school because all of her other girlfriends have INSERT POPULAR HANDBAG HERE but her and it’s just not fair that she can’t have one too.

That photo says it all. I can practically hear her breathing hard, the way little kids do when they are concentrating on something.
For us, it is a bandaid. Jilly believes that a bandaid stops whatever pain she is feeling. I just put one on an itchy mosquito bite and—voila!—no more itching!
Love it. Mint is my favorite foot lotion too.
Could she be any cuter?!!!!
I am so glad to hear that my daughter is not the only lotion-obsessed kid in the world! I’m like you – must have lotion at all times – and so she wants lotion whenever she sees it as well…lol!
Love this picture – I’ve got to take a lotion pic of my girl, too…lol!
This is awesome: it means you’re raising a girl who will be diligent about her sunscreen application and that is great news!
(And boy is she ever adorable!)
Peez? She says peez? Just give her whatever she wants. She is such a honey, that kid. I live for moisturizers and lotion, too. I love the Kiss My Face A&E lotion the best.
As I was reading this, without realizing it, I automatically reached for the hand lotion perched on my desk.
And yes, NikkiZ is the cuteness.
Ah-oh, I sense a future product junkie in the making:) Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
That’s so funny! Cindy-Lu is exactly the same way, shouting Some Some Some! and then freaking out if you don’t put it in both hands for her!
What are baby heads for if not smelling and sticker-applying?
That is a precious picture with the sweetest little cutie pie!! Thanks so much for sharing this with us.
What a cutie! You won’t have to worry about her getting burned out in the sun. Most kid run screaming from lotion!
I found your post and thought I’d reach out to say hello and ask if you’d like to receive a free Maya & Miguel DVD. If you’d like to receive the DVD just email me at Kerri at boldmouth.com with your address and I’ll have it shipped it out to you.
I don’t know if you’re familiar with Maya & Miguel, a show on PBS in the afternoons — http://pbskidsgo.org/mayaandmiguel — that emphasizes cultural diversity and language learning but I’m reaching out to talk to parents about the program as part of a marketing project I’m working on with Scholastic.
If you do choose to blog about Maya & Miguel show or episodes on the DVD, please make it clear how you received the information. Our goal is to be open and honest with everyone we reach.
