I haven’t had much of a chance to recap our vacation since we’ve been so busy - but I’ve been trying to slowly but surely upload some pictures. This one cracks me up so I guess I’ll discuss this trip first, even though it fell in the middle of everything else.
This was taken at Rock City. As in of the See Rock City red barn roof fame. I had been there as a child but remembered it to be a lot smaller, oddly enough. It was actually a pretty big place and kinda cool. Lots of caverns and greenery and just a peaceful stroll through some interesting spots. Like fat man’s squeeze:
Which was actually more like Average-Sized-Man Squeeze at a few points, it was so tiny. Of course, I was wearing a backpack so that didn’t help.
As you’ll notice in these photos, a certain child of mine decided to take her nap at Rock City. We had already been to Ruby Falls and the Incline Railway that morning and had TRIED to get her to take a nap at the cabin but she wouldn’t. So, we decided to continue with our day and hope she didn’t turn too demonic.
She slept in our arms for probably a solid hour in the park, leaving both of us a bit sore. She was actually asleep in my arms while I took this picture:
- which should at least earn me an “A” for Effort. We have several other pictures of her sleeping, but they haven’t made it to flickr yet. One, we stuck her sleeping head through one of those cut-outs with the characters that you put your face in. We thought we were damn hilarious but I think those people in the area watching might have felt sorry for NikkiZ to have a family that would mock her so. But whatever - she laughs at my boobs - she deserves some mocking.
Eventually she woke up and kinda enjoyed a little bit of the trip, like the fantasy village with the gnomes (Yes, there are pictures. No, haven’t uploaded those either. If I had waiting until all the pictures was up this entry would come in time for the 2008 elections.) Rock City is definitely worth the trip. Incline Railway? Not so much. Total Waste of Money, in my opinion. See this -
That’s it. A kinda-scary but also kinda-boring train-type ride down the mountain. And then back up again. Total waste of money and the 30 minutes we spent waiting in line. Each way. Bah. Ruby Falls was awesome too (which is the third part of the Lookout Mountain Trifecta) but I’ll wait and discuss that in another entry. Mainly because it involves me being scared-as-shit the entire time but doing a damn good job pretending I wasn’t.

Rock City is such a strange place. That underground gnome village is too weird. I got kind of freaked down there when we went (and I was 25); it just feels so far underground and the gnomes are all sinister and trippy and damp. Nikki Z is cooler than I am.
I wish I could sleep like that too. That bridge crossing photo is awesome and scary at the same time.
Oh, I can’t wait to see all the pix!!
Did you get some fudge at Rock City?
That first picture is GREAT.
I love Rock City and Ruby Falls. My husband and I went about 4 years ago (pre baby.) and loved it. We have talked about going back ever since.
Is it bad that I have lived in Georgia for over twenty years and never been to Rock City/Ruby Falls?
The picture of the rope bridge? Is frickin’ awesome!!
