Do you think I’ll get an orange jumpsuit?
Category: A little help over here... | 32 Comments »

Today is my big day. Today – I go to the slammer. Not for that nasty crack habit of mine, but for the MDA’s Lock Up Fundraiser. I’m still $177 dollars from my $2600 goal (my team disintegrated so now I’m only responsible for my share of our bail money) and four hours before they arrest me. I haven’t written my own check yet, but I think I can swing $177 if I need to. I mean, who needs a/c in the car – right? If I fix my a/c, I won’t be able to write about boobsweat!

But seriously – I can not believe I’ve almost made bail. Most of the people who get arrested don’t make bail, you know. Most spend the hour in jail raising money by calling the people they know or work with and asking for donations. And even then – most of them don’t ever make their bail. They just let you go after an hour. But me? I’m making my bail, Baby. All because of this blog. Because of you guys.

They choose the $2600 mark because that sends four kids with MDA to their special summer camp. FOUR KIDS get to go to camp now, thanks to you guys. Do you realize how awesome that is. There are the haters who knock the blogging – but you all have shown what kind of community we have. And I have never been more proud.

(Which I needed after the random comment I got yesterday on an old post about moving NikkiZ out of an awful daycare – why do people who end up in my archives via Google need to throw their parenting critiques my way? WHY? Let’s learn to play nice, can we?)

Brace Yourself For A Very Childish Plea

I am going to make one last plea. Like I said – I will write the check for the remaining so I can make bail. I was hoping to only write a check for $100, but I’ll do $77 more if I need to. But listen – Um – I want to come in first! The last newsletter I was in SECOND PLACE. I have already passed the girl in first in the newsletter (she had $2200), but I don’t know how much she’s earned since then. I want to BEAT HER! I want to beat everyone! [insert evil cackling laugh here.] I’ve never come in first in ANYTHING! So – if you have a few dollars to spare between now and 9am CST, please donate them. It is for a great charity, you know. ;)

I’m already having a shitty day and it’s only 5:49, so I gave you 40 bucks. Is hope you get out of jail quickly and get to go home and take a nap. That’s what I would like for my $40- a nap. Can you take one for me?

  2. nicole Says:

Is it bad that even though it’s for charity I gave thinking “Man, I hope Zoot beats that other chick with this money!”?

  3. secha Says:

Good luck, zoot! I had been meaning to donate, but I’m a horrible procrastinator. But, this post made me realize I had to get off my ass and go do it. =) Especially after that nasty comment the person left on your blog. *hugs* People like that suck.

  4. Heather Says:

I have no more money to give – but plenty of luck to wish! :-D Goooo Zoot! You are the reigning queen of MDA fundraising in my books! And you earned some cash already this morning, with like 3.5 hours left to go, thanks to Mrs. CPA and secha you’re already at least more than halfway to your $77. You rule! :D

  5. zoot Says:

Dude! I came into the office and suddenly I’m less than $40 away from bail! You all never cease to amaze me. And Heather – no worries – I can’t always donate to every fundraiser either – so I try to make up for it when I have extra money, I know how it feels!!!

  6. laur803 Says:

Well, I just made my donation….I think it’s awesome you’re doing this! (And I really hope you come in first!!!)

  7. zoot Says:

Woo Hoo! We’re over our bail! Now let’s keep pushing to beat the girl (Who is from a local Radiology Office, and you know there are doctors there who helped her!) and let me TAKE THE GOLD! I’m NUMBER ONE!

Oh, and yeah, uh, this is good for charity too! Yay!

(I’m not very good at this, am I?)

  8. JenE Says:

I donated $15.00. I hope you come in first!

  9. Little Dutch Girl Says:

Yay, if I did my calculations correctly, I got to pull you over the $2600 line! Hurray!
I am a slighly competitive person, so I really want to help you beat the other girl! (and of course help MDA)
So what are you going to do with the extra time now that you do not have to go to the slammer?

  10. zoot Says:

I am over the $2600 bail (and I havent even added my $100 dollars on yet, because I’m bringing a check with me) so instead of putting me in jail, they’ll feed me a gourmet lunch and send me back to work in a limo! And let me tell you – if I’m the only one in the limo – I’m totally making him drop by McDonald’s so I can get a diet coke. I MISS YOU DIET COKE.

  11. zoot Says:

Holy Crap – we’re at $2693 right now, add my $100 and we’ll be at $2793 – we’re getting close to $3000! Do you think we can do it? Should I make a last minute pledge to do something humiliating? You all already got me to where I’ll have to grocery shop in my prom dress – should I offer something else if we reach $3000? Like wearing “Roll Tide” clothing on the day of the TN v/s AL game? No. I couldn’t do that. That would probably kill me. Maybe if we hit $4000 I’ll do that!

  12. stacey Says:

Good luck and I hope you get that Diet Coke!! :) :)

I just read this from a friend of mine….he wrote it to me but I think it works good for what you are doing and for what all your readers are doing.

“they say if you can make a difference in one person’s life then your life has been well lived. When you are feeling blue remember that you have made a difference in more lives then you can count and in more profound ways then you will ever realize. The pain gets placed in a place where we allow ourselves to move on but we can never truly forget our losses or our heroes.”

  13. Noodle Says:

Just made a donation, Miss Zoot!! I had a college friend, Jamie, with MD who died shortly after he graduated. You’re doing an awesome thing!!

  14. zoot Says:

We’re at $2733 right now, $2833 after my $100 check! Thank you for all of the last minute donations! They’re going to die when they check my site this morning I’ve raised $310!!! I’m so amazed! They probably checked before going to bed and didn’t count on anyone else raising more money this morning. THIS IS SO COOL. If I hit $3000 without my $100 donation I’m going pee in my pants!

(That is not a promise, by the way…)

  18. zoot Says:

Okay – my last update: The final tally one the website is: $2943. I won’t be able to update again – but I’m going to add at least $100 on that and I have and extra $10. So – right now we’re at $3043 and I still have 30 minutes before I get arrest. Thank you SO MUCH. After jail I’ll come back and tell you what the final tally was. (((HUGS)))

Oh – I’ll have video – my boss is going to be kinda enough to videotape this for me so we can document this monumental event.

  22. Amy Says:

Kim, I donated another $77 to your bail. Since my husband has MD and we work with our local MDA, we know how valuable they are. We personally know kids who go to MDA camp every year. It’s the highlight of their year. Thank you again so much for doing this. Please check out my Flickr photos of our 2 days volunteering with the MDA Telethon. The kids in my photos are kids who benefit directly from the efforts of people like you. http://www.flickr.com/photos/amiebea/sets/72157601850862323/
    Thanks again!
