flickrpirate.jpgToday is International Talk Like a Pirate Day and the funniest thing I’ve heard so far is Steve Inskeep and Renee Montagne from NPR Morning Edition do their bit with pirate voices. I depend on Morning Edition to keep me updated on current events because MrZ won’t let me watch the news in the morning during football season. It pleases me to know the people who bring me the news are also in touch with their inner pirate. It’s a healthy thing, you know.

Then I logged into flickr and saw they took a page out of Google’s book and changed their logo for the day. (Oddly enough, Google did not. Where’s your spirit, Google?) We all know I’m a total flickr whore, but seeing that little shift in the norm to recognize such a goofy day, made me love them even more.

I’m not into the whole pirate thing, I haven’t even seen the third Pirates movie yet, but I have a deep love for anything that motivates people to find their inner child. We should all talk like pirates once a year, or wear costumes on Halloween, or slide down a slide, or ride a carousel. Anything that brings us in touch with the child we left behind. I think it is an important ingredient in maintaining my own sanity. Something about trying to touch the clouds with my toes when I’m swinging at the park – seems to dull the anxiety that may be looming over leaky roofs, broken air-conditioners, schools with funding problems, and weight gain. The things we stress about daily aren’t going to go away with one “Shiver me Timbers!” But it sure will put a smile on your face.

Oohh, I love you!! You hit a soft spot with me today. I have NEVER missed dressing up for a Halloween. It’s my favorite day of the year! I thought that I would enjoy it more with kids though. I forgot you have to take them trick or treating and you can’t stay home and scare the kids that come to your door. I love scaring kids on Halloween. I guess I’ll have to play catch up when my little ones are too old to have escorts. By that time I might also have enough money to be frivolous and give homage to the season with scary class.

    KUDOS to you!

It was so cute this morning when I dropped the BoyChild off. I told some of the boys it was “Talk Like a Pirate” day and asked if they could talk like a pirate. And there were three or four little boys strutting around going “arrrggg matey.” It was a great way to start the day.

  7. Arrrrrr! (Not enough coffee yet. Nothing coherent to say. :D )

  8. Janet says:

The Flickr logo made me smile, thanks for pointing it out! My post about TLAP Day is up…along with a beautiful photo of Captain Jack Sparrow!

  9. mdv says:

I’m a little slow this morning. I noticed the flickr logo, but didn’t know why the pirate flag was there.

I can’t wait until it comes out on DVD. /cry.

Warning ~ Half of the movie, more than likely, you will be VERY confused. I know I was, and the trilogy is my favorite eva.

  12. Don’t even talk to me unlees I have had my coffee and NPR yet …………. it makes it hard to listen to “regular” radio stations when you have listened to NPR for so long :)

  13. Gwen says:

OMG! When I saw this post this morning I knew I was going to have a good day. I had so much fun celebrating today! A gal in my office offered me $10 to talk like a pirate during this afternoon’s VERY important staff meeting. I did it for free.

  14. TammyK says:

I saw the change in flickr’s icon this morning and squeeled like a little girl…lol I thought it was so cool, lol. I am a geek. I agree with the keeping in touch with your inner child. I try to do that often.

  15. Jenny H. says:

As to be expected, both of the boys LOVED the idea of talk like a pirate day! And even told my parent’s about it!!

  16. Frema says:

My husband LOVES pirates. We even went out of state to see a pirate exhibit over Labor Day weekend.

    Arrrr!

  17. MammaLoves says:

I agree about TLAPD. Anything that helps you find the fun in life is worth celebrating.

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
