My Trip: In Bullets
Category: Adventures, Takin' a trip |

So. Very. Tired. I’m going to recap you in bullets since I only have six minutes left before needing to wake-up NikkiZ.

  • When it comes to NCAA sports - I am a Tennessee Vol Fan. I will always root for the Vols above and beyond every other team. BUT - after yesterday? I am totally in love with Auburn University’s campus. It is gorgeous. The buildings are fantastic and there is tons of greenspace and few roads with loads of walkways. I loved it. We found several great shady places to just let NikkiZ play. I can’t wait to show you all the pictures.
  • Even if a child would normally sleep until 7am, if you put them in the car at 3:30am, they will likely only sleep a tad bit longer. Luckily, I could entertain my child with the promise of “We’re going to see brother!” And I stuffed her face with hashbrowns.
  • The ride home, on the other hand, did not have as enticing of a prized at the end. We told her we were going to Mimi and Grandpa’s house and that we were ALMOST THERE. In Montgomery. Three-and-a-half hours away. We hoped she would simply fall asleep and not even remember that promise. But, no. The entire ride home she was making sure we remembered our final destination: Mimi and Grandpas house. So what did we have to do first before heading home? Go by Mimi and Grandpas. Luckily they were up and didn’t mind the drop-by.
  • I only thought I was tired before. A day driving 600 miles and walking for hours around a campus full of energy made me truly understand the word “tired.”
  • How do college kids actually live in dorms the size that I saw yesterday. My sister-in-law has made excellent use of the little space she has, but still! I would get severe claustrophobia. I lived in the dorms my first year but I went to a small school and the dorms were much bigger that the ones at Auburn. Hers is, literally, the size of my walk-in closet. And she has a roommate.
  • The next time I’m ever pregnant and saying I’m going to drive 300 miles away and come back in the same day with a toddler in tow - will you smack me? Remind me about how tired I am today. Remind me that I actually cried when my alarm went off. Thanks.

Glad you’re back safe. And how cool is it that I was awake way too early this morning, but just knew you’d have something posted already? Thanks for giving me something to read while I wait the 30 minutes before waking up my two girls to get ready for school.

Can’t wait to see the pics. We took Puddin for her first visit to Auburn last spring and it was a beautiful day. Made homesick for college (for like one minute). The campus is what made me fall in love with Auburn - it looks like a college campus is supposed to look with lots of outdoor common (green) space, big old trees and lots of students sitting under them etc…

Does your SIL live in a quad dorm or a hill dorm? Funny I guess you’re right the rooms are kind of small but when I was there 20 years ago we thought were were the shit because they are all suites and you didn’t have to share a bathroom with 100 people like you did at UGA or Bama. I was a lower quad girl myself - the trick was to get the rooms on the end of the hall - they are twice the size.

Glad you had a safe, if tiring, trip.

Yay, you’re back safe and sound, albeit poop-ed. :)

I remember the first dorm I toured … the beds were set up on lofts about 5′ off the ground and the student desks sat under the bed. I’m sure it was cozy in a, um, hermit crab sort of way, but that combo … with my future roommate’s matchng bed/desk a few feet away … and no air conditioning … sent my family fleeing.

Hope you get a chance to nap! :)

I have SO had those days where I cry when the alarm goes off. NOT fun.

I went to Arizona State, will always be a Sun Devil fan (see the Sparky tattoo on my ankle), but when I lived in Northern California, I LOVED Berkeley’s campus. All the green and the brick buildings. It looked very Ivy League.

I really hope you get to take a much- needed nap!

I am a USC fan mahself. California, not Carolina!

I’m so glad you made it back safe and sound. I hope you get the rest you need. I try not to think about college anymore, because just thinking about it makes me tired. I don’t even want to think about the cracker boxes, erm, dorm rooms we lived in.

I’ve been to Auburn before and yeah, that is one gorgeous college campus. I was only like 13 at the time and I recognized how beautiful it was!

  15. Anne Glamore Says:

We get down there quite a bit because my husband’s parents still live there - only 1/2 mile from that beautiful campus. It IS a lovely town, and you should see toomer’s corner all toilet papered after they win a football game. It’s the closest it comes to looking like snowfall most years!

  16. Magnolia Mom Says:

You were in Auburn and didn’t come see me? LOL

  17. TammyK Says:

Wow sounds like a fun-filled, busy, exhausting trip, lol. I can imagine just how tired you are, lol. I can’t wait to see pictures.
