And I HATE Scary Movies.
Category: About Me, Movies, Music and More |

Thanks to Hollow Squirrel for this variation on the book meme I failed so miserable. It’s all about the Horror Movies this time around. I added a few in that I thought of and feel free to do the same! My husband and son love all scary movies and can guarantee you they’ve seen most of these several times. And they liked them. Their weird like that. Notice none of them are underlined, putting them on my “To Watch” list. No thank you.

Bold those you’ve seen.
Italicize movies you have started but couldn’t finish.
Add an asterisk* to those you have watched more than once.
Underline those on your To Watch list.

  • The Shining* - I think this was one of my Mom’s favorites but I’ve seen it several times and it stopped freaking me out after the first 2 or 3 times.
  • The Exorcist - Never seen it. The Catholic upbringing won’t let me
  • The Texas Chainsaw Massacre - Nope.
  • The Silence of the Lambs* - Scary, I guess, but more thrilling to me.
  • JAWS - I am NOT a fan of gore, so this movie lost me partway through
  • Halloween - Nope. And my son is Michael Meyers for Halloween. (He is from that movie, right? I get them mixed up.)
  • Psycho - Not that scary decades later.
  • Seven - This is one of MrZ’s all-time favorite movies. It freaked me out.
  • Rosemary’s Baby - Another one not that scary decades later.
  • Poltergeist* - The token slumber-party rental from my childhood and I hated it with every ounce of my soul.
  • A Nightmare on Elm Street - I saw it once, with MrZ and LilZ, and while they both loved it (MrZ having already seen in a million times) I hated it.
  • Friday the 13th - Too scared to finish it.
  • The Thing - Nope. I think that’s another one that is old enough that I wouldn’t be scared.
  • The Evil Dead - I didn’t get it so I stopped watching even though every friend I had at the time swore it was the Best. Movie. Ever.
  • Carrie - Read the book so I felt obligated to see the movie. Not that scary.
  • Night of the Living Dead - Nope.
  • The Omen - I think I started it b/c I have vague memories of it but I don’t remember any of it.
  • An American Werewolf in London - Nope.
  • Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer - Never even heard of this one.
  • The Hitcher - Or this one.
  • Lost Highway - Or this one. Am I sheltered?
  • The Blair Witch Project* - This movie haunted my dreams for weeks. I hated it and it scared the shit out of me.
  • Pet Cemetery - Nope.
  • Saw - I regretted watching this one for many reasons, but the most important being it scared the crap out of me. But also I thought the ending was lame.
  • The Ring - I watched this one but was also trying to do several other things at the same time so it kinda ruined the “scary” factor. Which I appreciated because I think it would have freaked me out.
  • Scream* - Yes, because everyone else saw it, but it was cheesy enough not to be scary.

Ohh, the best scary movie is not on that list! It’s based on a true story. Go rent WOLF CREEK. Actually, just to warn you there is some nudity in the film. Very, very scary.

I’ve done it over on my blog. And how did The Sixth Sense not make this list?

I haven’t seen a single one. Maybe Jaws when it first came out… and I may still be regretting it.

    I don’t do scary.

  5. ferd Says:

“Henry” is a must see because it has the least special effects and is the more frightening for it.

ohhhh I love a good scary movie….The Ring freaked me out, as did Signs and oh man I just forgot the name. It starred Sarah Michelle Geller and was set in Japan….a follow up movie came out just recently….Gory just isn’t that great….but those ones didn’t have the gore….and scared me.

I watched the remake of the Exorcist with my friends when I was in highschool. We laughed through the whole movie. I guess it would be scary if you were watching it the first time, though. My family is Catholic too and my parents refused to let me watch that movie at home.

Oh, but Nightmare on Elm Street was okay to watch when I was 8. Except I didn’t, because I was hiding under the kitchen table.

  9. Kathy Says:

I didn’t realize I was such a horror fan. I’ve seen nearly all of them but Seven, the Ring, Saw, and Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.

The thing I remember most about Nightmare on Elm Street was that Fresh Prince & DJ Jazzy Jeff song that went with it.

I am a huge scary movie wimp; I can’t even take trailers for suspense movies. Out of this list, I have only seen “Carrie” and it scared the bejeezus out of me. I was by myself and screamed my head off when the girl at the end dreams of the arm coming out of the ground. Shudder. I can’t even think about it.

You must watch “Ju-on” which is the original Japanese version of “The Grudge” with Sarah Michelle Gellar. I’ve seen both and the original Japanese is sooo much better and scarier! They have dubbed the voices in English so you don’t have to read subtitles. I think LilZ would probably love it!

  12. Lynn Says:

I’m a scary-movie wimp! But, my tastes are very eclectic, so I think there must be a distinction between “suspense” and “scary” - and there might be one or two other descriptives as well. I’ve seen some of these movies and I haven’t been utterly freaked out. Silence of the Lambs was disturbing, but Nightmare on Elm Street was gory and icky and I didn’t walk away from it feeling satisfied that I’d seen it. Also, I have no desire to watch ANY movie done by Quentin Tarantino (sp?) — EVER!!

  13. Frema Says:

I watch the Saw movies, but I don’t think they’re very clever. I’m always disappointed by the end.

  14. Rachel Says:

Has no one out there seen Wolf Creek?

  15. Rachel Says:

I really liked The Blair Witch Project. It’s not fun to watch a second time but with the first I was under the impression that it was somewhat real.

Me doing this meme would be so boring.

No, no, no, no, no, haven’t seen that either, no, no, and haven’t heard of that one . . .
