Childhood memories frozen onto my blog

Hiking in sandals is SMART

I’ve been trying to find pictures of LilZ from about age 2 to compare to NikkiZ, and I’m having an impossible time pinpointing dates to pictures. I looked at this picture above and LilZ looks about the same size as NikkiZ, but I’m fairly certain I had cut off his curls before he turned 2. Also – OMG, I am such a baby in this picture. I mean, I know I was 18 when I got pregnant with him, but I forget how young that really is until I see pictures like this.

I think the most surprising thing to me over the first two years of NikkiZ’s life, is how little I remember from when LilZ was that age. Now, general behavior trends and personality traits, I know those well. He was always very sweet, laid-back, and very well behaved. But specific days and moments? There aren’t that many for me to fall back on. And this makes me sad. I don’t know if it’s because we were poor and I was trying to go to school and be a Mom and grow up all at the same time, so cataloging experiences in my memory was a low priority. Or, if it’s just because it was 10 years ago. And I’m getting senile.

I’m so happy that this blog serves as an archive of my children’s lives, at least since 2004. I guess the first “real” archive here of LilZ’s childhood is my reaction to Janet Jackson’s boob that February. I lost dozens of entries from those first few months when I left Typepad, but that’s one of the ones that made it. From that point on – he has plenty of stories to look back on. I hope they both appreciate it. Especially when I go so far as to document the physical abuse they have to sustain at my hands. This will most certainly come back and haunt me about the time someone wants to use the car on a date.

He’s adorable. And you do like such a baby in this shot.

Senility is my story for everything these days. Feel free to use it.

Do you know what would make a nice blog entry? If you interviewed, LilZ about the things he remembers (e.g., earliest memory?, etc.).

  4. MDV is on to aomething – that would be awesome! Also, don’t feel bad, I feel the same way about my older kids. I was so young when we had them I was constantly busy and don’t remember much but I can tell you the date and time when Jackson’s umbilical cord fell off. It makes me sad too but then I think of how great everything is now that I am a complete person and don’t feel too bad – we were still learning …….

You look 16, not twenty LOL. I had Toad at 21 – not QUITE as young a 18, but I was going to school and eveything too, so I know how fast it goes by. Jesus, I’m only 28 and it’s going by too fast still!

  10. OMG, the curls and the purple socks. DYING.FROM.CUTENESS. :)

  11. Becky says:

Dude, the curls are gorgeous. What a beautiful baby.

He was (and is) so adorable. I love that picture! I document the girls lives here, because, like you, I know I wouldn’t remember after a while. I have memories, and lots of them. I just can’t always pinpoint WHEN they happened. After all of these years (they are 13 and 9 now) I can’t always remember which child did them. :)

I was just thinking the EXACT SAME thing about HMac yesterday… I told my mom I can’t remember him at all when he was little RT’s age and it breaks my heart… I do however remember them walking around campus holding onto the “knot rope” and being too cute at the Fat Tuesday parade…….. That seems like ages ago. I miss them as little guys.

  14. canape says:

Wow. You two are both adorable babies ;)

  15. stace says:

Oh my goodness! Precious! I remember that day too… And I don’t even think he was even very close to 2. Lauren wasn’t even one or walking yet (though close to both), so I’m thinking he was maybe 14 months or so…

  16. supertiff says:

i can’t tell which one of you two is cuter!

  17. TammyK says:

He was an adorable 2 yr old. And you do look very young in this picture. I think it’s partially do to the hair style.

Oh I should probably add that I have “on again, off again” memory flashes for when Dani and Nikki were very young. It seems like my memories come in clusters from that age range, lol. Like I’ll remember tons about Dani’s 2nd Christmas but hardly nothing from Nikki’s And then I have tons of memories from Nikki’s 2nd summer… but can’t remember Dani being around much then… but she must have been she’s older then Nikki, lololol… It’s bizarre, lol

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
