Vacation.

I have today off like the banks, like most of the government and schools. I feel like one of the cool kids because no one else I know has today off. And let me tell you - I need it. I woke up at 3:45am Saturday morning so I could leave Birmingham in time to make it for MrZ’s race and I feel like it’s going to take me weeks to recover from that. Especially since I’ve not been sleeping well. Nothing like the college days of all night lab work. Several nights in a row. I often look back at those days and think, “That must have been someone else.”

Of course, I also used to be able to live off of caffeine and nicotine for days at a time.

I woke up early yesterday morning so I could shampoo LilZ’s carpet before heading to Montgomery. I have no idea what all was on that carpet, but the stains on that floor could probably have one day become sentient and kicked us out of our home. It took a LOT of shampoo and steam but I think I actually got it clean. I came home after my trip and walked in the door and immediately smelled the carpet shampoo. I thought that was weird because I only cleaned LilZ’s room. Then, I looked around. Every inch of carpet was freshly shampooed. MrZ had cleaned the rest of the carpets in the main rooms. Once I vacuum one last time this morning (now that it’s all dry) this will be the cleanest our carpets have been since we bought the house.

Which is good since I plan on doing a lot of sitting on my ass today. It’s always easier for me to be lazy when I’m surrounded by a clean house. Especially when I didn’t do the cleaning.

oh I think I may hate you today…says the girl sitting at her desk with absolutely nothing to do already, and no sick or vacation time available, who has a raging sore throat….

No enjoy your day. You deserve it!! :)

I got some cleaning done yesterday, too — two bathrooms scrubbed, carpets vacuumed, washed dishes, etc. I have the day off today and I’m going to relax, write, go to the gym (I’m leaving right after I finish this comment!), and get some stuff at the grocery store. It’s nice to have a three-day weekend. :)

  4. mdv Says:

Yeah for not having to clean yourself.

I’m green that you have the day off. I feel like cr*p today and wish I was home sitting on my ass.

That totally makes up for all of the marathon training.

Screwing up your carpet must be some sort of adolescent rite of passage, or something. I did that too… although admittedly I may have permanently stained my carpet ON PURPOSE because it, like every other exposed surface in my room (down to my phone) was PINK. I had to rebel somehow. And it finally paid off when they just gave up and ripped out the carpet. Yay!

And I think you deserve a break. Cleaning the carpet can be a bitch. The last time I cleaned ours I was seven and a half months pregnant. Don’t ask. It is a looong story. So yeah, take it easy!

How awesome that Mr. Z cleaned the carpets AND ran a half marathon. Does he happen to work with someone named Lois Lane? :-) It’s funny… if you had told me when I was 20 that one day I would think someone shampooing carpets was romantic, I would have laughed my butt off. But really - whenever someone takes the time to do something a little extra for you because they know that you would do it yourself if you could… THAT is romantic. He’s awesome! (PS - Isn’t it great that Lil Z has him as a role model? He’s going to make a fantastic husband someday!)

  21. Liz Says:

Wow you got a good man there. He actually cleaned the carpet without being asked. :)

  22. mdv Says:

First of all - Yay for your husband being a rock star. I’m jealous!

Second - what is it with teenagers bedrooms??? I was NOT like that and therefore have no comprehension. My OCD started at an early age and I used to throw temper tantrums at age 3 when my cousin would come over and mess up my room. My daughter is conducting myriad of science experiments in her room. We keep the door closed 24/7 to keep the funky smell contained. I would need more than a steam cleaner for her room. I’d need to borrow some chemical spill containment gear from my local fire department!
