There is a salon near where I work that has hardly any windows. I drove by it every day and wondered if it was one of those uber-exclusive spas or if it was a cover for some sort of spy network. Then, one day, they had a sign saying, “Moving Next Door To Fresh Market.” That didn’t sound very covert.
The next thing I knew, Artisans (which I kept pronouncing “Artisians”) was opening up next to Fresh Market. And they had windows! They were an Aveda salon, which means I actually am familiar with some of their products/services since the only spas I’ve ever gone to were Aveda spas. I went in this weekend to buy some gifts and found myself making an appointment for a Damage Remedy Hair and Scalp Renewal session. I’m not sure how it happened, but it did. It’s like they hypnotized me with fancy words like “hair” and “curls” and “pretty”.
I went to the appointment this morning, and it was amazing. They treated my scalp (I have Seborrheic Dermatitis which means my scalp is always irritated) and they infused my hair (Seriously. They used the word infused.) with some sort of massive conditioning treatment. OMG. My hair has never felt so good. I have no idea how long this will last, but I feel like I just traded my scalp and hair in for a much newer and younger model of the same thing. My curls are strong and soft and my scalp feels smooth normal. Seriously. I am so glad I did it. Even if tomorrow my hair starts feeling like a Brillo pad and my scalp starts itching, I’m still thrilled that for at least one day, my hair is soft and my scalp feels normal.
I’ll try to remember to take pictures tonight to show you. I’m that happy with it. I may actually photograph myself. And let me tell you - I’ve been feeling so hideous lately - that says a LOT.

Ooooo…please try and take pictures!! I’ve been contemplating something similar (only take away the “curls” and add “fine and wavy…but not pretty wavy, more like scraggly wavy”) and am excited that you’re so excited!!!!
Infused. That’s a fun word to say. Infuuuuused. Can’t wait for pictures.
I have the same thing!! Except instead of the cute curly adorable thing you have going on…I have nasty sebborhea, stuck my finger in a lightsocket, my scalp is so sore I wanna rip it off thing going on! *lol* It’s SO very sad!
Gosh I really pick some good topics to comment on when I pop out of lurkville don’t I? LOL
That reminds me that I need to do something like this. I’m sadly still struggling with losing the baby weight, and therefore have vowed to do something nice to my hair when done, but it’s looking pretty sad these days.
I am just TOO jealous.
That sounds heavenly!
PLEASE please please take and show us the pics! I am intrigued too! i wan to ooohhhh and aaahhhh over the beautiful Zoot!
Wow! I am living vicariously through you right now
I was reading this on Google Reader and I was disappointed that you hadn’t posted a picture, Zoot! I’m commenting to demand (I mean beg) for one!
Don’t let us down!
I have sebborhea as well, actually just diagnosed. Do you have any suggestions for making it more bearable?
ohhh exciting yes please take a picture!! I love having my hair done…it is so relaxing!!
I hear you on the feeling hideous thing lately. I am so ready for a change.
And I am WAY WAY WAY jealous of the prices at your Aveda salon. My Aveda salon is about double the cost. I guess that’s just differences in location. Bummer.
I love that Aveda respects curly hair. So many salons can’t begin to deal with it. Can’t wait to see the pics!
I love getting my hair rubbed on, especially when it is Aveda products. I haven’t done it in a while because of the cost, but maybe I might treat myself around Valentine’s day.
Ooh that sounds great! I haven’t ever had anything done at a spa except waxing, which is obviously not the most pleasant or relaxing thing in the world!
It sounds like a great experience, and I’m glad you took the time to do something nice for yourself! You deserve it, Miss Kim!
I have the same thing - which is why I end up washing my hair more often than I normally would (thanks to your conditioner only tip for curls). My dermatologist told me I needed to wash it more often to cleanse the nasties off of my scalp.
Is this counter to what you have been told?
Oooh I have to see your new pretty hair. I love going to the hairdressers full-stop because I always feel really nice afterwards.
I saw you yesterday, and you looked BEAUTIFUL! But do take some pix cuz I wanna see yo hairz now!
Way off topic, but how ’bout that HIMYM? Happy Slapsgiving!
Please,Please,Please take a picture? I am curious to see the hair, but I also want to see if you are all “glowy” from being pregnant.
What? Like I’m the ONLY one who is curious? Please.
I only go to Aveda salons because they make me feel all calm and zen-like. There is something about those products. And when you get your hair cut, they do this scalp massage thing before they wash your hair. It gives me the goosebumps!
Post pictures please!
As another curly haired girl, you know I want to see your pic … also, I tagged you for a meme. Hope you don’t mind (Now that I think about it, you may have done this one already.).
let me know how long the nice scalp lasts. i have some scalp psoriasis–it’s majorly irritating, but i guess i’m glad that’s the only place i have it, so at least no one can see it. still, i live in a constant state of itch-hell.
i’m thinking maybe this could help me, too?
and there is an aveda spa right down the street.
I’m so exhausted right now that I feel like I’m going to pass out. This sounds like pure heaven to me.
Ooooh, I have psoriasis, I wonder if that would work for me?
