What part of you is KRAZEE?

Last night, when I got home from the movie, it hit me how messy our house was. There were toys everywhere, laundry on the floor, dishes on the counters, and food sitting out. I glanced at it all, and went to bed. As I was about to fall asleep I thought, “I’ll write an entry about how I was so tired I left the house in total disarray.” I don’t do a lot of cleaning, but our house is at least in order. I considered it a huge sign of how worn out I was that I actually went to bed without cleaning up.

When I woke up, at 4:20am, the first thing I did was pick up the house. I was actually disappointed in myself. Last night I really wanted to go to work and leave the house as messy as it was last night. But something inside of me Would. Not. Leave. It. Be.

What is wrong with me? And I’m fairly certain everyone has that thing about them that sometimes makes them crazy. So, share yours with me. Do you have to put the clothes up as soon as them leave the dryer? Do you empty the dishwasher as soon as it’s done? Do you have to have your counters clean? What is it – that no matter how tired you are – you’ll do it. Make me feel better about my own insanity.

For me, it’s clutter. When we’ve got enough things out of order in a room – whatever room – that I start feeling crowded I have to pick up. (And those that love me inform me I reach that ‘closed in’ point long before the average person would even notice.) Even if I’m exhausted, running late, etc. etc.

  2. Stacey Says:

There must be something wrong with me, cuz nothing like that bugs me. If I am tired or have to be some place? yeah…nothing gets done. It will wait until I have time. In fact I am so bad about folding laundry and putting it away? That I still have some things in the laundry basket from last week that need to be folded and put away and last night I did NOTHING! So I am just plain LAZY!

  3. Corrie Says:

I am a clean freak. I think it is karma biting me on the butt for all the years I was a messy teenager. I have to have the living room clean, including the pillows on the couch perfect. The kitchen has to be clean, counters sparkling and dishes in the dishwasher. When I wake up and go downstairs, I have to put the dishes away.

    I am a bit crazy.

My excuse is I have three kids, I want to keep up with the mess.

  4. mdv Says:

Other than feed my dogs, I’m the same as Stacey. I try not to leave food out most days, but I’m not overly concious of those things. There is something to be said for waking up to a clean house or coming home after a long day at the office to a tidy home.

I have other freaky habits though. I cannot leave my house without showering first. I’m constantly sniffing my under arms to make sure my deoderant is working. I fear B.O.! I shower and dress from left to right. It throws me off balance if I try to do it right to left. I hope this paragraph makes up for the first. :-)

  5. canape Says:

I don’t have anything that has to be done right away, but I do let all the things that I wish were done build up and fester until I get all snippy.

Gee, my husband loves that about me.

  6. Professor Art Nerd Says:

For me, everything else could be falling down around me, but if my bathroom is dirty (especially the mirror) I have to clean it. My husband kidded me that when I was in the first trimester with this pregnancy, our toilet had never been cleaner. I’d be sitting there, sick as a dog, with the scrubber in my hand. Hey, I was down there anyway, right? Sick.

  7. Erin Says:

I have two. 1) I hate getting into an unmade bed. Makes me batty. I pretty much can’t do it. My husband calls me the sheets nazi. 2) Hate waking up to dirty dishes in the sink. Even if the dishwasher is full and running I will hand wash the last 4 glasses. I feel like I sleep better. And people wonder why I am medicated?! Zoiks.

  8. Mindy Says:

I don’t like waking up to a messy kitchen. The rest of the house can go to hell, but the kitchen will be cleaned before I go to bed.

  9. RA Says:

We have a sink drain thing that catches all of the scraps and whatnot and it must be emptied right after doing dishes or I go insane. Also, any boxes of food (cereal, croutons, graham crackers) need to be closed – tab in the slot.

Sadly, the husband does not agree and I growl to myself as I empty the drain thing and close boxes.

  10. Laura Says:

I cannot leave the house without making the beds. No matter what – beds must be made.

  11. mdv Says:

Oh, I just thought of something else. I cannot stand coming home to an unmade bed. It makes me KRAZEE!

  12. Marilyn Says:

Yeah. No. Heh, I take my title as “slackermama” seriously. It’s been a long time since I was Krazee about cleaning anything.

  13. Jamie Says:

I’m on board with the making of the bed. I cannot climb into an unmade bed, and if I had to leave in a hurry I will go home at lunch to properly make my bed. But if my kitchen is not clean before I go to bed, I will lie awake and think about it until the situation is rectified. I like the rest of my house to be clean, but I can still sleep if a few toys did not get picked up or if I know something needs to be cleaned; I get to that when I have time.

But the kitchen Must. Be. Clean. And my bed must be made.

My mother especially thinks I’m crazy because I was a tornado of destruction as a child. Now I get cranky when my house is a mess.

  14. Maxine Dangerous Says:

I would like some of the neat freaks to come to my house and clean my kitchen. I’ve managed to ignore it for *mumble mumble* and go to bed every night thinking, “Oh yeah … I was going to do thazzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.”

I know I have quirks, but can’t think of what they are at the moment. Am sleepee instead of krazee.

  15. Procrastamom Says:

I have to make my bed and fluff the couch pillows before I leave for work. The bed doesn’t have to be made on the weekend, just on work days. Kind of odd I suppose.

And everytime you write “put the clothes up”, I just want to run to my dryer and fold something because that is the cutest line ever!

  16. Margie Says:

Yeah, I really can’t think of anything that I’d deliberately stay up to get done if I was tired. I value my sleep (and I’m not a napper, so if it’s bedtime I HAVE to go to bed!).

I guess if there were anything, it would be not leaving food out. It usually gets put away as soon as we’re done eating, but every once in a while there’s some oddball project. Like a couple nights ago I was simmering pumpkin to make pumpkin puree (for pies, soups, etc.), and even though it was late (almost 10pm!), I made sure to slop it into the blender, transfer it into containers and get it into the fridge and freezer (some for now, some for later).

My husband is the neatnik, who doesn’t like to have dishes lying around, and actually picks up hairs off the floor (isn’t that what the vacuum is for?). He gets to be kind of a nag.

  17. Kathy Says:

Dishes. I can’t sleep if I know there are dirty dishes in the sink. The rest of the place can be a disaster, but the dishes must be washed and put away.

  18. Mrs. Who Says:

I have to make my beds every morning. I love the look of a clean, neat bed with the pillows arranged just so. I like the rest of my house to be clean as well, but the beds are my obsession.

  19. Juliesmama Says:

I cant stand sleeping in a bed thats not made, it looks and feels gross. Also, if its not made properly Im almost guarenteed to not get enough of the blankets, as my sig. other likes to sleep like a sweaty blanket burrito.

  20. Ree Says:

    Must.have.desk.organized.before.using.
and couch cushions have to be straight before I plant my butt.

    Yep.

That’s about it. The rest of my house can be utter chaos.

  21. Kim Says:

Dirty dishes drive me completely insane. I hate, hate, HATE to see them in the sink and also hate to have them strung about the house.

I also hate clutter on my kitchen/dining room table.

Living with three people who do not pick up after themselves makes for a pretty crazy Kim most of the time.

  22. Ang Says:

I am the SAME WAY. I want so badly to just ignore it all and let it be messy, but I.just.can’t. I wish I could let toys lay and dishes sit, but I’d go insane if I did….However, dust? That totally does NOT bother me!

  23. Becky Says:

I have to have clean counters and empty the dishwasher immediately upon completion.

I’m nuts about lots of stuff.

  24. Charlene Says:

I’m becoming a born-again neat freak. I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m just not good at the casually cluttered look. Either everything has to be in order, or I think it looks like a pig pen. The biggest issue is the kitchen. I’m getting to the point where I can’t sleep if there are dirty dishes sitting in the sink. I can run the dishwasher at night, and unload it in the morning, but I can’t stand the clutter on the counters or in the sink.

  25. TammyK Says:

I hate clutter!! Disorganization of my work areas makes me insane, lol. If you look at my desk and then at my hubbys desk you can see the differences.

  26. Jenny H. Says:

I have to pick up all the boys toys in the living room and put them away. Every night. It just makes me feel better for some strange reason.

  27. Jem Says:

Um, I always have to pee DIRECTLY before going to bed. Even if I don’t need to go, I lie awake worrying that I will have toilet dreams. If I go and then I wait 10 minutes before going to bed, I have to go again. It sucks.
