Canape asked me in this entry to introduce my pets. And since there are two days left in November, I figure now is the time to do it. However, since I’m trying to reach 100 entries by the end of the month, I’m splitting it up into two entries. (So close I can taste it.)
This is Bambi. I was not a cat person and was mildly allergic but I rescued Bambi for LilZ right after his Dad and I split. Partly because I wanted some company when LilZ was at his Dad’s, and partly because I had a hard time saying “No” to LilZ. (Still Do.) We went to the shelter and he picked out the cat. He also was in charge of naming him, but since he was four, his first name was “Butterfly Poo Poo Pie.” That only lasted a few days and then he changed it to “Jake.” After a few weeks he changed it to “Bambi” and it has been Bambi every since.
Bambi loves to give the head butts, but would rather not be held. Bambi is really awesome and loves people and sometimes talks to you in weird Meows that sound like drunken english. Or maybe it’s because I was drunk. Either way, he’s awesome. And he was my first pet I could call all mine. When he gets a chance, he really likes to sleep on my head. He will also come when I call him. He loves me.
This is Sunflower. We adopted her in the same way as Bambi, letting LilZ choose the cat and the name. I was dating MrZ at that point, so Sunflower has always been around MrZ’s dogs and tends not to realize they are not cats. Or that she’s not a dog. She loves to be held and will hop into the laps of any stranger. Especially my father-in-law’s, who happens to be allergic. She seems to prefer those allergic to cats.
She will snuggle with the dogs and in weird places (as you can see here) that are either (a) warm or (b) hidden. She will sometimes hide in the laundry room only to scare the shit out of me when I reach to the pile of clothes she’s sleeping on. She hates her tail which means MrZ will taunt her with it endlessly. It’s quite funny and she never seems to catch on. She’s short but has a big belly so we sometimes call her Peanut Head. She’s the cat Most Likely To Think She’s a Dog.
MrZ and I have definitely become Cat People over the years. I’m sure there are cats not as awesome as ours, but we are quite fond of Bambi and Sunflower. Except for when they drink the milk out of cereal when we get up to get a glass of water at breakfast. We’d prefer they quit doing that.

They’re adorable. My cat Pete does the same thing as Bambi with the head butts, and sometimes it drives me nuts. Mainly because he does it while I am sleeping. Sleeping is a terrible time to be woken up by a large furry creature.
What kills me here (in a good way) is that my cats ALSO have allergy radar and insist on being loved by ANYONE who is allergic. I thought that we were the only ones!
The cats are cute and all, but I can’t stop looking at THAT PIZZA. MMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmm…..
I’m starving.
Aw, kitties! My cat prefers head butting to being picked up, too. I had an older male cat who was just the opposite. I don’t remember him ever giving the full on “thwack.”
Why does the cat have pizza on it? I can has pitza???
My cat lives at my parents’ house, and she prefers to be considered as a human that just happens to live outside, who corners the crazy chicken from our neighbor’s house, and uses the dog as a springboard to escape the other dog.
She knows her name, and comes when I call. And when I come home, she recognizes my car and immediately plants herself next to the driver’s side door and refuses to move so I can get out until I pet her.
And she plays dead.
I’ve been thinking about getting a cat, mostly because I need someone to snuggle with! A couple of the sites (the SPCA and my Uni, which has a vet tech program) have cats for adoption, and I’ll probably go with the Uni cuz it’s cheaper, but they also list characteristics of the cats and if they like to cuddle and such
My friends have a cat that looks almost exactly like Bambi. Except he has a white spot on his belly. Guess what he loves to do? Give head butts.
Oh, your cats do that, too? My big black and white cat (we have a small b&w, too) likes to stake out my chair and hops in it when I get up. He usually tries to steal food when I turn my back. He also will stick his head in the bag if we get take-out. That’s annoying.
hi i’m reading this while giving my cat a good head scratching with one hand and typing with the other, hence no capitals. i wish my cat would stop drinking out of my water glass and jumping on my keyboard while i work. i still love her though.
We have a gray kitty too. We got him at the shelter, my daughter picked him out. He does the head butt thing and dislikes being held. He meows rarely but when he does it’s weird! He has also had several names. Generally we just call him The Gray Cat. He was a hellion as a kitten.
We have Mischa Katt and Trixie. Mischa Katt came with me when Jimmy and I got married. She prefers him to me. Mainly because he will still play string with her, and I will not. She gets waaaaay too upset over string. It’s not like it’s Monopoly and she can’t be the Dog!
Trixie came to us when we moved into our new house. They aren’t really friends yet. But I am sure they are working it out when we aren’t here!!!
I am a Katt person. The boys like dogs. We eventually would like to have another dog. The boy’s first dog was hit by a car the night we moved into our new house. He broke his lead. He didn’t make it. Telling my children their dog wasn’t coming with us was the worst thing I have ever had to do. Ever. We are waiting for just a little while before we get another one.
Beautiful cats!
They drink your cereal milk.
Heh. You have stuff on your cat.
And like good cats would, they look completely unimpressed that you are taking pictures of them and featuring them on your blog. They could just care less.
Thanks for the introduction! I’m looking forward to meeting the dogs
