If you need me, I’ll be making out.

Sometimes LilZ walks to a friend’s house after school. One day, I found out that they don’t immediately start walking, they hang out at the school until their friends are gone first. I freaked out and exclaimed something like (and this is essentially verbatim), “I do not want you hanging out at the school if there are no adults. That’s like giving you prime make out time!” Of course, his response was, “What? Who would I make out with?” Hee.

A few days later I called him to let him know I’d be about 10 minutes late picking him up. He said, “Okay, we’ll be under the awning – making out – until you get here.”

I cracked up. He’s a smartass, but he’s funny.

This morning, LilZ was telling me about a skit he and this girl were doing to demonstrate the word of the week: Compassion. “We’ll be making out.” To which, I replied, “You do know that compassion is not the same thing as passion, right? Compassion is seeing someone less fortunate than you are…feeling sorry for them…and then helping them out.”

There was a long pause as I’m sure he thought No, shit, Mom. I’m not an idiot.

But instead? He deadpanned, “And then I could make out with them.”

Gotta love that kid.

If only my niece, who is his age, were half that funny! Maybe it’s the whole junior high girl thing — so moody!

OMG. Too funny. I use the, “Wanna make out?” line in any and all tense situations. Sometimes it diffuses; sometimes it makes it worse.

Hi. I’m Kim.

This is my blog that I've been writing on since January, 2004. I call myself Zoot as it's a derivative of an old childhood nickname. I used to write about my struggles to have children, but eventually I succeeded and now, I write a lot about those kids. I don't use my kid's exact names simply because if someone Googles their very unique names in the future, I don't want them stumbling upon my entries about boobsweat. I mean, would you hire someone whose Mom writes openly about such topics? NO. YOU WOULD NOT.

I love taking pictures and carry my camera (almost) everywhere I go. This means you'll see a lot of photos on this site. I also periodically post recipes I like as I've been slowly (but surely) learning to cook and I like to share my discoveries. Finally? I'm an annoying pop culture fanatic so I'll periodically ramble about Hunger Games or the latest Parks and Recreation.

I hope you like it here. If not? Please don't tell me. I cry easily.
