Yay! For productivity! Boo! For Colds!
Category: Stuff I hate, Stuff I love |

So, if I take the list from Saturday and cross out the things I did and bold the things I didn’t, it looks something like this:

Now I have to find time to wrap and ship a chunk of them so that they’ll get to my family in time for Christmas. I also have to finish the 80+ Christmas cards I have left to address and mail and also take LilZ and his friends to see I am Legend. I think my family would really like it if I did some laundry this weekend and I think my sinuses would appreciate it if I would vacuum this damn house. The dog fur is now so heave in the carpet that I have forgotten what the orginal color was. There’s also maternity clothes to sort through (I finally made MrZ get the container down from the attic. I missed the ability to breathe in my pants) and a pile of clothes in the bedroom to take to charity. Then there needs to be a trip to the recycling center and a trip to get groceries.

I did damn good! Only two things didn’t get accomplished as planned and I have an excuse for one of them: The Goodwill center near my house has no drop bins that I can drop my bags of stuff in after hours. I tried, but to no avail. So - I am quite proud of myself. We even added a few bonus items like a trip to see the Galaxy of Lights and visit to Mimi and Grandpa’s. I’m actually quite proud of myself. It’s always nice when you pass your expectations for the weekend. It never happens around here.

BUT - (there’s always a but) - it seems I may be getting this cold that is going around the blogosphere. I don’t know anyone in my real world that has it, but I’ve been reading about several of you dealing with the never-ending symptoms and pain and agony and…YOU GAVE IT TO ME. I tossed and turned all night last night with sniffles and sneezes and headaches. I got up this morning and took some of that nasty Airborne crap and drank some OJ. I’m also going to make some small animal sacrifices (namely a beagle/lab mix that chewed up my address list last night) to the gods of wellness and possibly make a deal with the devil. I CAN NOT GET SICK. We are going to Louisiana this weekend and then, next week, will be my first Christmas with both my kids EVER. The last two LilZ spent with his Dad (for various reasons) so this one is MINE. ALL MINE. I can NOT be sick.

I’m just going to keep saying that nineteen million times and hopefully that alone will ward off the evil cold demons. Keep your fingers crossed.

Ick for feeling sick. I just say mine is from allergies. When I was in high school I had a cold and I always said, “I am not sick. My mind will overpower my body.” I didn’t miss any school but I was miserable for a couple of months. I found out a year or so later that I had antibodies for Mono…. So I guess I really was sick.

Can you take Zicam? Did I spell that correctly? It seems to work for me but I can’t find my bottle to check if pregnant women can take it safely. Eh, check it out at Target:-D

  4. Stacey Says:

Oh I am sorry for feeling of ickiness. :( Drive safely down here to Lousiana!! Would love to say hi to you in person, but I don’t want your cold. ;)

ZICAM will save you! People have asked if I am a zicam missionary since I talk about it so much, but I just the world’s biggest fan of it.
You have take it as early as possible to get the most benefit. If it doesn’t stop the cold from coming it will at least shorten it.

  6. Someone Being Me Says:

I’m sorry about your cold. Honey and hot tea will help some. Try sudacare shower soothers too! They are wonderful. Also invest in a humidifer for your room. It sucks being sick when you are pregnant so I hope you get well soon.

  7. Aardvark Says:

I have the same cold…I don’t think I had it Friday. I hope you feel better..but don’t take Airborne while you are pregnant. It has echinacea and forsythia in it.

  8. Dirka Says:

I know I just told you good luck on completing your weekend chores, TODAY, but it seems to have worked because you accomplished almost everything… so let’s see if this works… Good luck on not getting sick. I’m sure you’ll be fine!

    Fingers are crossed!

Hi Zoot, I’ve been reading your blog for years, but I’ve never really gotten around to de-lurking. The chance of you being sick over christmas was enough for me to come out of the shadows, though. I had mono 2 months ago and that weakened my immune system and I got every bug that passed my way. One of my instructors (a paramedic) told me to wash out my sinuses. It sounds weird, it looks gross, and it feels very odd. However, I only had the cold for 3 days. Thats the only thing that sold me on the kooky idea. CVS sells this kit called neil-med. You can make the solution that you rinse out your nose with hypertonic by adding more packets, and the salt in it will pull the fluid out of the tissues reducing the swelling and pressure. It also washes away germies and eases the congestion.

Drink lots of water (and nix the sodas), take vitamin C, rest as much as you can, and rinse your sinuses out. Its an odd prescription, but it does work.

    Stupid colds.

Sorry, Miss Z. They’re the WORST.

  12. Kathy Says:

I second the ZICAM. There’s another one, a homeopathic thing with a funny name that I can’t think of — of even begin to spell properly — that works well for colds. Oscell-something.

  13. BookMamma Says:

Hang in there Zoot! Can you take Musinex? My OB gave me that when I was all snotty and preggo and it worked like a charm. I had to chug lots of water but I guess I was supposed to be doing that anyway…

I’ve got a wicked sneezy cold thing too but Airborne and hot tea is helping. I attribute it to the wacky weather here in Hsv.

  14. Heather Says:

I am the complete opposite of you, I think. I’m not sick, but I still haven’t got *anything* done. *Sigh.*

  15. amy Says:

Rest. You must try to sleep past 5:00am. It may actually help.

  16. mdv Says:

You rock! I didn’t accomplish even half of what I should have this weekend because I had to work.

    Sending healthy vibes your way.

80+ Christmas cards??? I did 24 and I thought that was a lot.

Saline rinse. I have been rinsing my sinuses with saline now for a few weeks, and I swear it has kept me well. Cheap and easy.
