Dazed and Confused but Determined
Yesterday was a weird day. In a good way, don’t worry! “Weird” can be one of those words that could range from “Rockin’ Awesome” to “Totally Crappy.” I didn’t want you to get confused.
I’ve decided that 2008 is going to be the year that I finally get off my ass and try to get some of the stupid project ideas out of my head and out into reality. I want to make better use of my free time and get something accomplished for once. So, by “launch some new projects” I may actually mean “nothing” so don’t get too excited. I remember Leah writing an entry one time (that I’m too lazy to hunt for) about how she always has all of these ideas in her head at any one time. I know exactly how that feels. However, she seems to actually have skills at launching them (my favorite is her craft trading site) while I have yet to demonstrate any of those skills. Meaning, 2008 may actually turn out to be the year that Zoot Proves She’s Kinda Full Of Shit.
Time will tell!
I’m also going to use 2008 as a year to become active in projects or websites other people have launched! That way, if my ideas crap out, I still will have accomplished things this year. Starting Monday I’ll be posting at least 5 times a day at TV Bloggin’. I am going to clean up the design a little bit over the weekend, but Monday? I’ll finally have an official place to talk about TV until I’m blue in the face!
I also want to start joining more projects related to photography to motivate myself to take more pictures. (Many of you are saying, “Really? You need to take more pictures?”) The first one is Best Shot Monday which I’m excited about joining. It will force me to make decisions (which I suck at) and choose ONE photo per week I consider my “Best Shot” and show it to you all. Aren’t you EXCITED? I know I am.
So – what else should I be doing? Are you doing any cool web stuff this year? Part of any cool clubs I can squeeze my way into? Is there room for me at your lunch table? I would love some more photography adventures, if you know of any good ones, please share! I would also love to possibly participate in some sort of Get Healthy! project but not one that tabulates weight loss since I’m obviously not technically dieting. Maybe a way to chart the miles I’ve walked this year? Any ideas Reed? (He did 100 miles in 99 days.) I’d like some way to set a goal and maybe, and actually MEET that goal. As opposed to just talking about it for the next year.
Essentially – but the time 2009 rolls around – I want to have a list of at least a million new things I tried. And if I’m still a part of at least five of them by the end of the year? I’ll consider it a success.

Oh the Best Shot Monday thing sounds cool
I’ve got my new camera now, so I’m looking to spend a decent chunk of time on photography. I’m doing the 365 days project which really just terrifies me – because I have to look at myself every day
But I figure it’ll be a good exercise in self-esteem, too. Other than that, between school and work I’m going to be really packed, so I need to keep things simple. I SHOULD definitely try to eat healthier and do some walking…but wow I suck at that. Still, I should at least make a goal. We’ll see
can’t wait to see some great photos! I am hoping to get a great camera this year so we shall see if mine get any better.
I find out all my ideas from you so I hope people point you to a few really cool things!!
I’m really enjoying a flickr group called “girls theme week *live*” and I’m pretty sure it’s open for anyone now. You take a minimum of three photos a week following a theme and you have to somehow be in the photo yourself (or at least a part of you…) it’s pretty challenging sometimes but a lot of fun and all the girls are SO nice and supportive.
Aren’t you pregnant? Shouldn’t you be sitting on the couch with a bag of potato chips in your free time? Are you trying to make the rest of us look bad? Cause it’s working.
In 2008 I’ve decided to spend my time on the couch being productive. I’m going to make jewelry. Swarovski crystal, beautiful jewelry. At least, I hope it will be beautiful. And turn out to be jewelry and not just crystal beads strung together into some sort of “thing.”
You’d better get busy, cause come June (or late May!) you’re going to be busy with other, much more pressing things. Like, A BABY. Now THAT’S a good project.
You’re always welcome at my lunch table.
Best Shot Monday and a few other photo blogging activities are tempting me to start a blog.
Here are a few that are tempting me:
Photo Friday – http://www.photofriday.com/about.php
Photo Hunt – http://tnchick.com/pshunt
Photo Theme Thursday – http://www.spunwithtears.com/thursday.html
http://nyc.photobloggers.org/ (There might be one in your area.)

A Flickr NYC Photo Walkabout
With regards to Project Eat Healthy, perhaps start a message thread on the Mama Pop message board.
I do PhotoHunt (most) every week. She puts up a topic and you post your photo on Saturday. This week’s topic is “Delicious”.

I’m doing an online Get Active, Get Awesome project. You can find it at thirtybefore30.wordpress.com. Basically, you just keep track of how many minutes you are physically active every day and send it in each week. I needed to be motivated to start working out again, and this is helping so far!
I’d love to be able to join a few of the “post a picture a day” Flickr groups, but it’s sort of impossible without a digital camera. I love toy cameras and old polaroids. If you don’t mind the occasional hunt for film or places that develop it, polaroids are plentiful in thrifts and Urban Outfitters now sells Hogas and Lomos.
I just LOVE Best Shot Monday. Tracey Clark is awesome and there are some awesome mom-photographers who participate. You may also consider Theme Thursday, which was also started by Tracey when she was Picture This at Club Mom. It is now hosted by Stacy at http://the-kraft-family.com/WordPress/
She posts a theme for the week and we all interpret it and share!
After your post about photojojo I have started two projects this year, the 365, but not with me in the picture… And the rainbow project, taking 20 pictures each of the different colors of the rainbow, so far I have had fun with it!
Way too much stuff!! What happened to the slacker Zoot I’ve come to know and love??
I’d love to have you as a co-contributer on my What Is It Wednesday site! It would require you to take a picture of something, and people have to guess what it is!
I bought a cheap pedometer years ago & whenever I’m feeling like I need a fitness kick, I wear it & try to get the 10,000 steps a day that are recommended… or set a different goal if I’m already getting that many without trying! I’d keep the daily results in a spreadsheet so that I was accountable, & chart the results because I’m a visual person (& spreadsheet nerd!!!)
I’m going to learn to change diapers. That’s my big goal.
I’m still looking for some good ideas to do this year. I’m going to start with painting the walls in my house (no, not a mural or anything creative) and decorating. We’ve been here 2 years and the only rooms that have been touched are the kids rooms.
Now it is time for the visable parts of the house to be done. Too bad I suck at decorating.
You can always join the Get active. Get AWESOME campaign you linked to last week! You don’t have to share your weight at all — just be active and keep track of how many minutes you spend being active. Simple! Fun! Potential to win prizes! Neil Patrick Harris as a mascot! You know you want to. http://www.sangrialover.com/?p=696
Good luck with your goals in ’08!
my friend and i want to start an online magazine, aimed at sort-of everyday women. you know, not the elite. but women with and without families, with varying degrees of education, who are just busy with the everyday business of making it work. it would encompass a little bit of entertainment, a little bit of politics (which would always be represented from more than one side), and a little bit of anything that anyone cares to write about.
however, neither one of us knows crap about design.
so, you know…if all your other projects don’t turn out to be enough…
A friend sent me this site and I found tons of stuff to keep me busy for weeks: (http://lifehacker.com/336991/free-tools-to-manage-new-years-resolutions)
I’m loving backpackit… where I can make lists until I’m blue in the face. And traineo, where you can track miles, sleep, happiness, fitness, etc…
Good luck being productive!!!
After I birth this baby I need to get my but in gear. If you need a stroller buddy…let me know!
Need a book club? We’ve got a bitchin one over at the public library – http://www.hpl.lib.al.us – The Eclectic Book Club. But there’s about 15 to choose from if that one doesn’t suit you.
A book a month AND you can bring AndyZ when he arives. Actually you can bring both the little ones to the ECB!
Good luck with your aspiring rezzies…
Alright, Zoot. I’m working on a new fitness goal idea. Since I did 100 Miles By Halloween, then 100 Miles By 2008, I feel like I need to push myself a little more. I’m probably going to set my mind to something big by the big 3-0 (which hits at the end of April). I’ll get back to you …
I’m working on a project right now, soon to be announced that you would be PERFECT for. I’d love for you to join us. Email me for the particulars if you’re curious.
Good luck on getting all those done. I have two projects for the new year – a mummy blog and a photo blog. I don’t really talk about my daughter that much on my blog because thats my place for me. A mummy blog will just be a place to talk about my daughter and all the new things that she’s learning. The people who visit my normal blog don’t really want to hearing about stuff like that. My photo blog is what it sounds like. Its going to (hopefully) get me taking more photo’s. Mainly more creative photos.
2008 shall be a year of projects for me, too … including graduate school. Scary ass project if you ask me!
I can’t believe you think you need MORE projects — I can hardly keep up with all the awesome things you’re doing now!
I third the Get Active, Get Awesome suggestion if you’re still looking for exercise motivation. I’m not really into regular exercise clubs (like the ones that are always forming and deteriorating at my office), but it’s simple and anything counts as exercise, so it actually has motivated me to get up and take a walk on days when I just can’t make myself go to the gym or go running.
