One Of The Many Items In The List Of Zoot’s Krazee
Category: Pregnant, Sometimes I'm Krazee |

One thing about starting to be obviously pregnant, is I find myself wondering if what I’m wearing is “appropriate” for a mom-to-me. Now, I don’t mean that in the sense of, “Should I wear this halter-top and mini-skirt?” I’m too insecure to dress like that. I mean, in terms of trends that some consider young. I even had this complex with LilZ and I was 18 when I got pregnant with him. Before and after my pregnancy with him, I was sporting Grateful Dead t-shirts and combat boots. But while I was pregnant? I felt like I had to wear floral tops or sweatshirts.

It’s no different this time. I bought these adorable vans on clearance at Ross, but everytime I wear them I think, “Can a pregnant woman wear this?”

My ugly vans

The big question for me is not “Can A Pregnant Woman Wear This” - in actuality. It is “Why In The Hell Do I Care?” I mean, no other time do I really think about something being young/trendy/weird. I might have a general insecurity about not fitting in sometimes, but I love those kind of unique looks and never question wearing them. Only when I’m pregnant. Is it like I somehow fear that the baby will be taken away from me if I dress inappropriately? Do I feel like people are more judgemental with a woman carrying her baby in utero than of the mother with her kids by her side? Why is it that the bulbous belly somehow makes me…well…more insane.

Wait. I’m pregnant. I’m supposed to be insane. Right? Nevermind. I’ll just wear the shoes and do like I always do. Blame the hormones.

The Vans ROCK. I think pregnant women SHOULD take more risks when it comes to clothing.

  2. Kathy Says:

Those are cute! I have a pair of knock-of Vans with cherries and skulls. (I’m not pregnant, but definitely old enough to be out of my “skulls rock!” stage.) Do I care what people think? Sure I do. I’m human. Do I still wear them? Of course!

  3. Heather Says:

I think they’re totally cute, but not way young. Just right, actually. I think they could go anywhere from 15-40. Maybe 45, depending on the woman. But they *definitely* work for you :-)

I suffer through the same thoughts, and I’m not pregnant. I still wear my Vans — although yours are awesom-er — and even break out my old Thrasher sweatshirt every once in a while. I’m 32, and a mom of two, and sometimes I feel like all those Anne Taylor wearing moms at the school think I’m weird. (Nothing against Anne Taylor clothes!) But I’m sure you know what I mean.

Those rock. I say a pregnant woman can wear whatever she wants as long as it fits her.

  6. Stacey Says:

You should totally wear whatever you feel comfortable in!! Especially right now. I saw this lady yesterday on the streetcar and I thought, “wow that is totally mom clothes” Ya know like that SNL skit of mom jeans? Yeah that was her and I thought how old she looked, then I realized she wasn’t that much older than me!! But you know what? She was comfortable. So that is what matters. :)

  7. Stephanie Says:

I totally understand that feeling… I am about 3 weeks or so behind you and I CONSTANTLY think about what I am wearing these days… Where as before I could’ve care LESS what other people may have thought…
My main concern has been, does it look like I am pushing it by wearing this, (being at the annoying too big for real pants, not big enough for maternity, can’t wear sweats to work stage)

  8. Elizabeth Says:

You should wear whatever you feel like. Being in retail, I know the choices there are for maternity clothes. If it feels good and you feel comfortable then wear it. Who cares what other people think. At the end of the day it all comes down to what you think and what you care.

  9. Kyla Says:

They don’t have laces, therefore, PERFECT pregnancy gear.

  10. Becky Says:

I actually understand that perfectly. Heck, I say wear the shoes (which are fab) and enjoy the comfort that is Vans!

  11. The Bug Says:

Those are VERY cute shoes. I think that ALL pregnant women should wear those shoes. :)

  12. Reed Says:

I always thought the rule was: “I’m pregnant. I can do whatever I want.” Just stay off the skateboards with your hard-core shoes!

  13. Aardvark Says:

Wear them! I was shoe shopping the other day and I found the cutest pair of slip on Mudd’s. Steve saw me trying them on and asked me if I thought I was 12…so I didn’t get them. Now I am kicking myself!

  14. Z Says:

Those shoes are CUTE! If you won’t wear ‘em, I’ll take ‘em ;)

  15. Moogie Says:

I LOVE them. I think you should wear them as well. Plus? They are slip on!!! Perfect pregnancy shoes.

  16. Monica Says:

I love them! I have polka dot pair of Vans that the 7 year old down the street also has — but I still love them and wear them as often as possible! I’m sure you look adorable in them.

  17. Cindy Says:

Very cute. You must wear them all the time!

  18. michelle/weaker vessel Says:

I have exactly the same problem vis-a-vis activities at my kids’ schools. I love dressing freakily, but I feel suddenly, totally self-conscious when I have to go to parent-teacher conferences or open houses. Therefore, I think we both need to rock one of these:

  19. -R- Says:

I agree with everyone else. Those shoes are very cute and not too young - whether you’re pregnant or not!

  20. AMomTwoBoys Says:

Those are so cute. I’m totally for wearing anything you find (on sale or not) at Ross, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, etc. Gotta sport the good deals and show off that BELLY! AndyZ will be proud his mama wore such awesome shoes to Staples. :0)

  21. Andy Says:

I hope so because I would totally sport those. And they’ll be perfect when you’re too big to want to bend over and tie your shoes. I specifically went out and bought slip on shoes for this phase the last time around. These will be perfect for that.

  22. Fraulein N Says:

Cute shoes! And I imagine slip-ons will become practical soon enough. ;-)

  23. Liz Says:

Yes, in fact, I believe that we WOMEN (pregnant or otherwise) can wear whatever the hell they want ;o)

  24. jamielynnlynn Says:

How can you NOT wear them? They look so comfy and adorable.

There is the slight chance that the animals/mail-carrier will make fun of you if you wear them to the “office” - hehe. Don’t listen to them!

  25. lindz Says:

    Aw zoot.
its not really about what your wear while being pregnant, its about, being COMFORTABLE while carrying that kicking thing around.

  26. lisa Says:

Pregnancy does that to you. For me it was my Grand Marnier t-shirt. I started out my pregnancy thinking it was hilarious to wear a shirt that said “Grand Marnier makes the margarita” while pregnant, but by the time I had a visible belly I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. I felt so conservative and ashamed. I totally got over it after my daughter was born. We have a double whammy of insane protective hormones plus insane societal expectations. Put together they’re enough to make a woman…well, insane. I say wear what you want to wear, not what you think you should want to wear. We both know the shoes are awesome. Putting them in the closet for a couple months doesn’t mean you’re any less awesome, it just means you’re calling your own shots.

  27. Sonja Says:

    1. Those shoes are adorable. If you don’t wear them, send them my way. ;)
    2. I have an opposite problem. I always worry about what people think about what I’m wearing, but now that I’m pregnant, I’ve given myself a get-out-of-fashion-jail-free card. I just wear whatever happens to best cover my expanding midsection. Case in point? I wore polka-dotted knee-socks to work today. Visibly.

  28. Liana Says:

I LOVE those shoes!! ROCK those babies.
Besides, they look comfy, too, which you’ll definitely need when things are farther along, right? So! Perfect for pregnant and non-pregnant women alike. :)

  29. Rachel Says:

If anything deserves adorable shoes like those it’s pregnancy. You should absolutely wear them.

  30. lemonade Says:

those are so adorable..pregnant or not..u should wear those!
