All in a day’s work.
Category: Grumblecakes |

The first half of today was awesome. I was super-productive both professionally and domestically. I got a lot done and had a good feeling about the day. I sent several inquiries/resumes out and was optimistic to hear positive feedback.

Then - I got my first “No, thanks!” response. And that sent me for a downward spiral. One negative response and suddenly my whole day was ruined. I asked Marilyn why I do that - why I let one DENIED email ruin my day - but she was no help. She just said, “I do that too!” Heh. We were talking about how quickly one negative response can ruin a good day and stop your productivity right there. Anyone found a good solution to avoiding that yet? We’d like to hear it.

I decided to step away from the email. Maybe I’ll here some positive responses today, but maybe I won’t. I don’t think I need to read anymore either way. I made the executive decision to not check my email ANYMORE today. Spend the rest of the day getting toddler love to bring back my mood.

Then she hit me. And I had to put her in timeout. And she’s crying in timeout and I’m blogging about it. I’m fairly certain this odd sequence of events is one of the reasons why I may start drinking as AndyZ exits my body in May. I’m just going to ask them to have a cold 6-pack waiting for me in the OR. I’ll have earned it.

I do the same thing too. I can get a 100 compliments and 1 criticism and that 1 bad thing will overwhelm all the other good things. I am getting better about putting things in perspective but it is hard to for anyone to get turned down. I’ll send some Shiner your way once Andy is here of course.

The best thing I can do is tell myself: “Well that’s their loss. They don’t know what they’re missing out on.” There’s a good book called “Feeling Good” by David Burns about positive self-talk that has really helped me pull out of the negative (and illogical) emotion and see things as they really are.

It takes some practice for the positive self-talk to become a habit and stick. But for instant results, go into your room, shut the door, and exclaim confidently “I am a strong and powerful woman!” 10 times.

I do the same thing, and am about to be job searching as well and I am sure that with my unhappiness in my current place of work and getting a rejection it would just be way to crushing. But then I will remember that they suck and I rule.

Aw sounds like a rough day. Hang in there, Zoot!

It’s got to be something in the air. I’m having the same day.

I do that too. The worst is when Monday starts with rejection, and then I let it set the mood for the week.

If you figure out the solution, I’d go for an “in” on the secret.

my darling husband had a cold beer waiting for me in the delivery room. I did wait until we were moved to the private room where I drank it with the bag of fast food I begged him to bring me ( had the nerve to birth my child after meals stopped)

  8. Marilyn Says:

I’ve already requested an appletini, a margarita and some champagne. Think that’ll interfere with the morphine they give me in recovery?

    I’ll take that risk.

  9. Mom On The Run Says:

Hubby brought me a bottle of wine to share with my room mate at the hospital. She was discharged an hour after he left so I drank it myself :)

  10. Aardvark Says:

Blame it on the hormones. (and then think “dumbass” when you read the rejection)

I am thinking it would make life more fun to celebrate our failures more than our successes. I am going to throw a big party for every guy that dumps me, company that rejects me and bill collector that is looking for me, that way I will look forward to those moments in life because they seem to happen more often than the other ones, I am so on to something here.

Critisism is so hard. It doesn’t matter how many people say you are fantastic and wonderful, that one person who finds something negative is the one that will stick out in your mind.

I’m sorry you had a bad day. But, there’s always tomorrow. :)

This isn’t exactly related to your post, but you’ve got an ad in Italian inserted smack in the middle of it, hidden by noscript tags. It’s only visible if you’ve got Javascript turned off, or if you’re reading the posts in a viewer (which is how I noticed it).

Just thought you’d like to be aware of it.

I am not sure how they view alcohol in the OR, but we had a cold six-pack of Diet Coke for my SIL waiting as soon as my niece was born!! She was thrilled after 9 months without.

Keep your chin up–I love your blogs and I think you are going to kick some serious butt at what you are doing/trying to do now.

You’re awfully quiet today. I left the safety of my feed reader because I was convinced it was broken. Is everything okay? Clearly I’m worried, because I’m breaking all kinds of work rules just to ask. Hope you’re just busy having a fun Friday. Take care!

  16. Shala Says:

I am with Susan! I can only hit refresh so many times and not start to get worried. I hope everything is okay over there!

  17. Susan Says:

Oh, I figured it out! Thanks Twitter! It’s just an Internet outage! Hope you get reconnected soon!

  18. Nette Says:

Echoing the two previous comments. I hope everyone is well.

  19. Carrie Says:

Hello! Same as the others, I hope you are ok! I have been worried since you haven’t updated! Hope all is well and you are just taking a little break!

  20. jessica Says:

same as everyone else - hope all is well in Zoot-ville!

  21. Lauren Says:

same here…you’re so quiet, hope everything is ok!!

  22. little dutch girl Says:

Yep, I think everyone is getting a little worried about you if you do not post regularly. I hope all is well.

  23. Marilyn Says:

This is decidedly un-zootlike. Give us a twitter or SOMETHING here, girl!

  24. Laura Says:

    Hope everything’s okay…

  25. Kym Says:

I checked twitter and it looks like Zoot is having internet troubles. Yesterday she said she was having to wait for the cable guy.
